T&C States Cardmembers must also have:

    1. received a personally addressed direct mail or email invitation to register a specific Card in the promotion as nominated by American Express. Only the Card that was nominated in the invitation to participate can be registered. Only one registration per Cardmember is permitted. Multiple enrolments will not be accepted.

Have a feeling that points will be reversed for ppl who didn't get an invite like the last huge AMEX bonus points offer that was around a year ago??

  • exclusive deal for those who know they have an invite. waste of space on ozbargains

  • This offer has Expired….I get the following message when registering

We apologise, this Bonus offer has now ended. Keep an eye out for our forthcoming promotional bonuses and remember, you can register for the bonus as soon as you get our notification, there is no need to wait until the bonus starts. That way, you will automatically earn bonus points as soon as the promotion starts!

  • Doesn't work for me.

  • Not sure why but I have registered successfully. I didn't know about this promotion beforehand.

I've just received the invite which probably explains why I was sucessfully enrolled.

  • Don`t you love it ? ( Not)

    TERMS & CONDITIONS/TERMS & CONDITIONS/TERMS & CONDITIONS

    as usual !

American Express continues to struggle to offer deals to EACH of its customers

  • Doesn't work.

  • Worked for me as well, eventhough I didn't get any invitation from Amex. If I never do get an invitation, and the registration process was successful and confirmed on the Amex website, don't I have a strong case against Amex in the event of a dispute? Although the T&C says "only the Card that was nominated in the invitation to participate can be registered", the Amex confirmation of my registration basically negates the fact that I didn't get an invitation.

    • Ah, it doesn't negate it if it's in the T&C.

If you're lucky, they might be nice and give you the points. But given what other members have said, you can most likely expect bonus points to be reversed.

      • Would this then not be misleading advertising as per the Trade Practices Act (ie. Amex website confirmation of my registration, eventhough I'm not eligible without an invite)?

        • You might want to check with consumer affairs and see what they think.

        • If this was never posted you would not have known about it so would not have tried to sign up.

American express regularly run invite only promotions.

May be your invitation is coming!

      • I got my invite today - so if it accepted your details, your invite should be one the way!

        • got mine yesterday as well

    • Worked for me too, and I didn't get the email from Amex. But this is perhaps because:
      1. I didn't opt in for ANY communications from Amex (except the obligatory change of T&Cs email), or
      2. I set my junk mail filter to highest, and to permanently delete any junk mail immediately

So, I never get the invite, but when I register, it said that I have been successfully registered, and that I should change my communications preference setting so that I won't miss any future offer such as this one.

If you got the same message when you register, then maybe you actually qualified for the offer. And if you don't qualify, maybe you got different message like above received by "simonda4222"?

In any case, thanks, for the post. A plus from me…..(at least until I see my points earned and turns out I didn't get the points afterall).

      • funny, the message was same for me and I went and changed my e-mail preferences to send me offers after that!

I do get some offers on the snail mail from time to time - nothing as good as this!

      • Let's hope so, that the invitation is on the way. I think that there is an obligation on the part of Amex to ensure that only those who got the invitation can successfully register, if not there is a case of misleading conduct (ie. saying you are but in fact you aren't).

One thing that I'm not too sure about though, is if the bonus points accrue for every $20 spent or for every purchase above $20? For example, if I spend $50, how many bonus points do I get?

        • Last time it was for every $X you spend - spending more than $X in one transaction does not get any brownie points!

I am sure it will be similar

        • misleading? i think thats a far call. im pretty sure if amex wanted, they could just rely on their t+c not to honour. I think anyone taking this up is happy to take the chance just in case, but isnt holding their breath

  • I dont think this belongs on ozbargain when the only people who can take advantage of the offer will get material about it from amex anyway. For everyone else, they can't take part in the offer. Which makes it different from when tpg has a special because they don't tell all their members about it.

  • In the coniditions it says:

"Only the Card that was nominated in the invitation to participate can be registered"

I was able to register even though I did not get an invitation.. hope it comes good

  • is it also available for people who have amex through bank (ie: NAB AMEX) ?

    • Best thing you can do is to try!

    • I tried on my CBA Amex. You have to register your card to do this promotion, but says "We are unable to register your card." when punching in the number. I expected that anyway, since the Amex site has nothing to do with my CBA issued card.

      • same, i have a amex cba and same error msg

        • That is because you do not have an American express issued American express.

You have a CBA card, it has nothing to do with this promotion.

Your card is very separate to American express issued cards.

  • Has anyone actually received the invitation in the mail?

    • I received my mail out yesterday (VIC)

  • worked for me

  • Where do you type in the code? I cant find it.

  • The points are instant - if you were able to register successfully, you should start to see points rake up!
