I love those deals. For me it's $50 x4 weeks to get the $50 bonus, so roughly $50 off $250 or 17.36% if my math is right (nope, ha ha).

IMO it's better to get the points, and convert them to a gift card of the same value - $50, but can be used in multiple transactions over 2 years, compared to the single transaction in 1 month $50 off.

    • I had to spend $60 last time, which only just ended a week ago. I was telling myself if it's $60 or more next time, I won't do it, as it was hard for me to spend $60 a week for four weeks. But I got $50 this time. So much easier. Yeah, I pick the 10,000 points too.

    • +1

I go in to spend $10 and almost always spend near to $50 so for its almost always the money over the points

    • Isn't $50 off $200?

      • No, You get the $50 off on your 5th transaction

        • Why don't you choose points and get it on your fourth?

        • @ihbh: Same thing, points will only be credited after 4 x successful transaction of $50, which means it will be the 5th transaction where you can use it

        • +1

@creeps_bay: You can wait until the next 4x$50 shop for $50 and use these points to pay for the first one. Still think it's $50 off $200?

      • Its $250 off $50

    • You need to Spend $50 each week for four weeks in a row.

You then receive the $50 off or 10,000 points within a few hours of completing the 4th week's transaction.

      50 X 4 = 200

      50/200 = 0.25 = 25% cashback in shopping credit.

Anything wrong with these calculations? What am I missing?

      • +2

You have to do a total of $250 shopping to use the $50 discount on the last $50.
        So $50 off $250 shopping = 20% discount.

It's not Cashback (cash in account you can spend as you like) but $50 free future shopping at Coles.

If you don't get the last $50 of free shopping sometime, you don't get any discount.
        That is $0 off $200 shopping = 0% discount.

        • What if you buy a $50 gift card on your 5th transaction? Will it be 20% or 25%

        • It's $250 in total yes but it's only $200 of your own money ($50 each week for 4 weeks) + $50 shopping credit.

You are not obligated to spend any more of your own money on week 5.

        • +1

          @spendinghacker:
As I said, you get a $50 discount on $250 shopping. (You only spend $200 of your own money.) So $50/$250 = 20% saving.

        • @Infidel: It's the same thing. It just depends on your point of view.

The way I look at cashback/shopping credit/refunds etc is how much I get back as a percentage of my own money.

If you prefer to look at it as a discount instead of cashback/store credit then I guess you are right.

        • +1

          @Marko6164:
          It's still $50 saved from $250 purchases = 20% saving.
If you don't buy anything with the gift card = 0% discount on $200 spent. Some people forget to use their gift cards before expiry or company collapses.

        • +1

          @spendinghacker:
FlyBuys like you to think that way as it makes you believe it is a better deal. It's part of their marketing.

You get no "Cashback" unless you purchase $50 more from Coles group. It ties you to further purchases. So total purchases are $250 with $50 you did not take from your own money.

Whereas the $15 instantly off $50 at Woolies promotion is cash in your pocket. A better deal, as you keep the money to do what you want with.

My spend threshold is higher - yet the reward offered is lower $25/5000. Go figure!

    Won't be doing this.

    • :( That's annoying! Did you activate and participate in the offer alot of times in the past?

      • Activated it last time, but didn't reach it (had the same spend threshold as well). Haven't actually completed one of these 4 week ones, which I would have thought would make it more likely to make the incentive greater - to encourage me more. Oh well.

Good if it works for you though!

        • Yeah, you would think.

Thanks. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

        • Based on your history they think you do not spend $50 per week so have lowered it.

      • +1

Did you activate and participate in the offer alot of times in the past?

It depends on how much you normally spend, not activating the offer previously.

They try and get to to spend more than what you normally do to get the reward.

        • I did the Spend $60 for four weeks offer and completed that only a week ago, now I got an offer for $50 for four weeks.

I was just saying if he activated it and participated but didn't complete it, they might have changed his reward although like he said if they had stayed with the same reward it would have enticed him to complete it this time instead of deter him.

        • Not always, we average $180-$220 a week, and our offer is $130 per week over 4 weeks to get the bonus.

        • @31mop:

It's the average per transaction, not per week.

          @31mop:

You need to apply for another FBuys account, then split spends over the cards. Offers will be lower on the new card, so activate and meets spends, then when those offers spend increases, go back to original account.. rinse and repeat

    • +2

Everyone's minimum spend threshold will be different.

Basically, the way this promo works is that it rewards disloyalty and not loyalty.

If you shop at Coles every week anyways, you won't be getting any good offers (i.e. low spend threshold) and quite likely won't be getting any of these bonus point offers at all!

The key to getting the most out of these is to indicate to the Flybuys computer (and its a totally automated algorithm. There is no human involvement in this) that you won't shop at Coles unless they offer you these bonus points/shopping credit.

You can either do that by not shopping at Coles every week or shopping as usual but not scanning your FlyBuys card (so that this particular spend doesn't get tagged).

If you've stop shopping at Coles for a few weeks (at least from the perspective of the Flybuys computer), you'll start getting these offers.

If the minimum spend you get the first time is too high for your liking (will most likely be around $70 to $80 per week), just don't take up the offer and keep 'tagging' only small purchases with your Flybuys card. You will lose base points this way but will increase your chances of getting bonus points/shopping credit offers with lower weekly spend.

Once you get an offer with a minimum weekly spend you're happy with (I've never seen them go below $50 a week for a 4 week cycle or $80 for a 2 week cycle), take it up but do not go above the minimum weekly spend (otherwise the Flybuys computer will send you a higher weekly spend next time).

If you're doing your weekly shop, reach your minimum spend threshold and see you still have more items, ask the checkout operator to finalise the transaction at that point and scan your Flybuys card. Then do the rest of the items as a separate transaction and do not scan your Flybuys card with that one.

Yes, there is some fiddling around required but it allows you to beat the Flybuys computer in its own game and you will continue to regularly get these kind of offers with consistently low weekly spend requirements (thus maximising the shopping credit you get as percentage of the actual amount of money you spend).

It works like a charm. Trust me on this! ;)

$40 x 4 weeks for 10,000 points is the lowest I've seen and has been reported further down the thread. My observation is similar in that I haven't seen this offer for about a year. It occasionally gets used as the first 4 week offer for new account which have only had low spends on them.

      • +1

This is exactly what I do. I usually get offers for $50 per week spend. I have another primary account that was getting $80 per week but now is down to $60 as I have not used it for a while. After I reach $50 shop I then pay. For the rest I use the second primary account. That way I do not loose any of the base points. It is easy to set up more accounts, make sure it is completely separate as you can also have subsidiary accounts but these do not receive these bonus offers. Also if you have two or more accounts you can double up on offers, if they are really good.

  • Let me guess this is targeted?

    • Yes, most Coles Flybuys offers are. I guess no OzBargain mods are on at this time of night to add the "Targeted" tag to this deal.

      • +1

I'm getting tired of fly buys I've got no offers at all or previous offers

        • :( Do you scan your FlyBuys card after each shop? Do you get any deals on your receipt or in your mail? Start using them and the more you use them then you might get new offers in your online account.

  • +1

    Targetted

Different savings for different amounts depending on your recent spending habits…

    • Yes, I know. I don't know how to make it "Targeted". I think a mod does this, no?

That's why I changed $50 to $xx as in "add the amount you are to spend".

  • I got the same reward offer, but $80 spend x 4. No thanks!

    • What if your reward was $80 off your shop or 16,000 points? How good would that be?

    • +1

I only got 10,000 points for a 4x $100 that started a bit more than a month ago…it was shit.

Maybe I should shop at Woolworths for awhile except for small items.

  • Mine was $70 for 4 weeks. Pretty crap deal.

    • I think to get more people interested they should base the reward on the amount you normally spend. If they want you to spend $70 per week for four weeks, you should get $70 off your shop or 14,000 points, etc. I think more people will activate this and complete it.

      • +2

I think you should just pay what you can afford for groceries because some people have money and some don't and it's not fair why?

      • they should base the reward on the amount you normally spend

They want to increase your normal spend. :P

  • Taken me 6 months to lower my spend to less than partners.
I'm now 4x $70 after being $100 ($30 drop after 4+months not meeting/activating) and she went up to $80 after many months of just meeting $70.

I was mad until I saw my email :)

I prefer the Woolies offers but also use Coles. Received the 4x$50 for $50 Coles offer.

    My current Woolies offer is:
    Week 1 Mon 07 โ€“ Sun 13 Aug
    Spend $30*
    SAVE $5 INSTANTLY

    Week 2 Mon 14 โ€“ Sun 20 Aug
    Spend $40*
    SAVE $10 INSTANTLY

    Week 3 Mon 21 โ€“ Sun 27 Aug
    Spend $50*
    SAVE $15 INSTANTLY

Unlike with FlyBuys where 1 week's spend unlocks next week points offer, you can just activate first & spend in weeks you choose.

So spend $50 in 1 shop in just week3 & save $15 off bill. Coles does not offer that flexibility or Instant discount. With Coles, I need to buy $250 to save $50.

Offers vary. Amounts of spend or bonus vary. Maybe points or Instant discount on offer (can't choose like FlyBuys). The more cards you have, the more & different offers you receive. Received this instant discount offer on 2 cards for same dates.

    • Yeah, the Woolies offers lately have been pretty good, just used the one where you spend $50 and get $10 off.

      • Got a few of those, but with a few instant $15 off $50 - didn't use them.

        • I've only ever received that one offer, not sure how they work it out.

Never used my Rewards card prior to the offer, you'd think they would target people like me more to get me to shop there.

I have a few Woolies Rewards cards. I tease Woolies by cycling them, rarely using any 1 for a while. Then I go to Coles. Get plenty of offers that way. I'm just a supermarket slut.

        • @Infidel:

          I'm just a supermarket slut.

Do you wear crotchless undies when you shop and put fruit in your bosom?

If you're not going to give me a big discount, I'm not interested!

        • @Infidel:

Why do so many of my comments get marked off-Topic๐Ÿ˜€

        • @Infidel:

I think it's because of your username.

        • @Scab:
Long before the time of Scab, I was known as BrucefromAustralia. (Travel was my interest.) I was then more frequently marked as off-topic, once referred to a deal being Bruced. I think it is the content & large number of my comments with no real connection to the deal (like these). But you are catching up fast on both of those๐Ÿ˜€

They increased ours until it reached $90 per week so I have stopped activating the offers until the required spend reduces sufficiently.

  • Got 4x80 to get $75. To make this worse, this week's catalogue sucks. No way I'm going to reach $80.

  • Last offer for me was $90 per week, didn't activate it and now it dropped to $80 this month. Still too high!

    • I activated mine and it's the 90 which I won't do..I didn't think IF I don't activate it the next wave would go down. Will see what happens next time. Thanks for the idea :)

  • for me 130x4 to get 50 off. no deal.

  • +3

Wildly inaccurate post. And highly targeted. Spend ranges from $50 to $330 per week and rewards range from $25 $50 $75 and $100 / 5k 10k 15k and 20k points, also some people have to spend in one transaction and others get multiple. This post doesn't represent any bargain.

  • You guys are lucky I have to spend $170 for four weeks. Was the same amount last time.

  • +1

260X4 for 50. I better stop scanning the flybuys for a bit

  • I didn't get this :'(

  • Yeah, I'm $150x4. Need to do a few cheap shops to reduce it.

  • +1

    back on the $50 x 4 after I didn't do the $60 x 4 for $50 a month or two ago

  • did it last time $60 x 4, now it's bloody $80 x 4. They are so sh*t

  • I got this offer and chose the cash over the points since I'm a stockpiler. I'm really lucky, my local has a woolies, Coles and ALDI all within the same small shopping centre. On shopping day I easily go to all three, pick up whatever I need and be done in a hour or so.

    • +2

      That is ideal.

  • +2

    Mine is $90..too much :|

  • Would love if anyone could confirm if opal topup counts or not.

I know for Woolies it doesn.t

  • I got 4 x $100 for $75 off

  • +2

Any point signing up multiple flybuy account in order to improve chance of getting a good offer?

    • Yes, but make sure you use a separate email address for each account.

  • Yeah mine's $100 x 4 for $75 off / 15,000 points

  • Has anyone noticed the first week is actually 10 days.
Chances are you'll do 2 shops in the 10 days, but only get credited for 1 shop, with 3 more weeks to go.
So to me it seems you've paid for your reward. No problem so long as you don't up your spending just to receive the reward or you can do 1 shop in the first "week".

    • yes, Coles always do 10 days in the first week, all you have to do is manipulate the deal to suit you. If you shop on Saturdays pick just one of the first two saturdays to reach the required amount and make sure you spend under the nest week,or delay your shop til the following monday so it falls in week 2

    • If you dont read your terms and conditions carefully, its your own fault if you have to spend more to get your reward

    • It's a good thing as it gives you time to sign up then redeem. I've been caught out taking the t & c's literally so best read them first. Good thing I eat most of the groceries I buy lol

  • I got $40 * 4 for $50 1 year ago and then received $50 ones.
After that, I started receiving $60+ * 4 but I keep ignoring them for months.
The number comes down to $50 again recently so that imho, the deal is still a deal but will getting worse if you stick with coles (same for woolies) especially you activate and complete promotion deal a lot.

    • Wow, the lowest I've ever seen has been $50 x 4. $40 x 4 is my ultimate goal!

  • I got the $50 target for 10,000 points.

  • I have to spend $120 per week for 4 weeks and I get $50 back…

  • I've had mixed shops and got $120 x4 so dropped spending to low under $30 but regular. Got no offers - I have 3 accounts. Hmm.

  • I got spend $110 each week for 4 weeks and get $50 off :(

We do our grocery shopping mostly at coles though so these offers are mainly targeted towards those customers who rarely shop at coles. It would be nice for them to offer similar offers to repeat customers though.

  • It's spend $80 for 4 weeks for me.. blah, not gonna bother. Unless I ermm.. stock up on baby formula /cough
