    wow…great deal for anybody who wants a Google Home/Chromecast combo…I think that 'anybody' could be me!

  • +1

    I just got a google home yesterday from jb 134.80

    • Not bad seeing as they are advertised at JB for 199

    • +2

      Yeah seeing a few reports of the street price being around the $139 - $149 mark at most places (if you actually negotiate and not just pay RRP) HN would probably do the same but not with the gift card….personally I'd rather just pay less

      • Just note that price is for US versions of GH so quite a few retailers like OW and JB will not price match. I tried 2 OW’s and a JB before another OW did it without a problem.

        • -3

          Office works jb and good guys all price match Iv got the from every major retailer recipe in previous threads

        • +1

          @Dex38313:

          Well obviously not ALL of them do as pointed out in my comment and several others in the other GH deals.

        • My two local officeworks and jb hifi wouldn't pricematch at all.
          Not even the officeworks receipt posted on here where they did pricematch.

          I'm just going to keep an eye out for another international version on sale.

    • Can you up load receipt makes it easier when in store and asking for same.

    • how did you do that

    • How did you go about that?

    • yeah right mate, cost price for a Google Home is $191, so there's no way they would have sold it THAT much under cost. prove us wrong and upload a receipt if you really got it for such a steal.

    • Hey @Dex38313 can you let us know how you got this price?

  • -5

    I no the jb hifi I went to do price match

    • +1

      what did you price match with? i don't think i've seen it for $134.80 before

    • I no the jb hifi I went to do price match

      "No", so they don't price match then.

    Is this another way of collecting data from you, inside your home?

    • +1

      only if you take off your tin foil hat!

      • +8

        You realise that is Google's business, not a conspiracy theory, right?

        • +3

          you realise i was making a joke, right?

        • Google have direct feeds to the NSA, its American law and part of the big reason why European and Russian governments want google to keep copies of its citizens data over there so it cant be "tapped" by the NSA.

        • @ninetyNineCents: They wont get much info from these devices

        • @TRENT86:

          It all helps, the ability to listen in one all those homes, is an incredible advantage to any service such as the NSA which may wish to take advantage of it.

          In the old days the KGB, STASSI and so on would have laughed if they were told people would pay to have a listening device in their home.

        • @ninetyNineCents: I mean if they were turned on the whole time listening to everything that would be a worry but they aren't and if they were somebody would find out and sue Google. I think the questions asked will be simple and do nothing to help them gather info for majority of people.

        • @TRENT86:

          And google would say your device was hacked, and they arent liable.

        • @ninetyNineCents:

          Ev en if google wanted to "spy" on you, that isnt a crime, it may be creepy but they havent broken a law…

    • +9

      Without data, technology can't go nowhere. It's proper use of data if used only for improvement of tech. If you are nobody, the data is just data. If you are Trump, the data of covfefe is still invaluable.

    • Yes …. But your phone already does most of that ….this is incase people have GPS turned off on phone ….. So they can tailor adds for your suburb ….like hot dates in neighbourhood …. They get suburb from wifi router IP adress..

      • What its intended for, is how you hide what its "intended" for.

    • +2

      I +1'd this comment, but don't have enough power to undo all the negs :(

    • Why are you getting down votes? This is a 100% fact.

      Are people downvoting you for reminding them that this is the case?

  • +2

    Great find Trent! I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Home. This might get me over the line.

  • -3

    Where does it show the price for chromcast 2 as $47? On the HN website it still lists Chromcast as $58 .. How i going to price match with office works without proof?

    You need to show us where it lists chromcast 2 as $47 or remove it from the title.

      • +1

        ok.. stupid mobile phone skips page one when you click on the link!
        i wish clicking desktop view would actually change it to a desktop website, google chrome browser cant even get something that simple right yet in 2017 lol

        It also doesn't state chromcast 2 so you cant price match it .. it only lists chromcast

        • +1

          But the picture of the Chromecast is a V2 so I’m sure you’d have no problems getting a price match.

          The product codes (GA3A00135VIDEO) are also exactly the same on both HN and OW websites so it is the Chromecast 2.

        • @Jonesy7707:

          i'll give it a shot this arvo thanks

  • -1

    I've seen a few people say they got a Google Home (Australian stock) for some cheap price, but I think I'm going to call shenanigans unless there's a pic of the receipt to go with the claim.

    • +6
      • +1

        Very nice. Who did you price match against?

        • +1

          The reply below me, onedigitals.com.au

          Ohhh…that was you posting :)

        • +1

          @Jonesy7707:

          Nice for you to get the price match without the shipping included. They stated that the price they go against is what it would cost including shipping to get the product :(

        • +1

          @misa:

          I just told them they have warehouses based in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and they didn’t even mention postage. Now that I look at it, Onedigitals shipping options are $36 or $46!!!

        • +2

          @Jonesy7707:
          Thanks. Just got one at Elizabeth st melbourne officeworks for $134.90.

        • +1

          @Wto23:

          No probs :)

      • +3

        I think I love you :)

        Thanks man, that's exactly what I need!

      • +2

        just got one for $134.90 from an officeworks in Sydney too. but better be quick because the manager there did a really thorough check on that onedigitals website (https://www.onedigitals.com.au/products/google-home-wi-fi-vo…) and said it's not an aussie version.

        but since there are other officeworks matched the price so they are doing it for me as an one-off case. they said they will send an email to the head office so they may not matching it from tomorrow.

      • +2

        Cheers, price matched at jb hifi, they are also doing a deal adding a Chromecast 2 for $10 along with $10 code activated the next day if you buy a $100 gift card, which I bought and used to pay.

        • +1

          Wow combing 3 deals, congratulations!

    • +1

      Care of a post from @Dex38313 I got one from Office Works who price matched with One Digitals -

      https://www.onedigitals.com.au/products/google-home-wi-fi-vo…

      They included shipping in the price match as they were not a local company, but it still came out as the cheapest option around at the time for me.

      • OW price matched this? The website seems to imply it's not an AU version.

        • Yep they did. Showed them on my mobile and then all they asked was if it was a local company in which I then showed the contact address.

        • Just tried. Once they saw not Australian, they kicked me out

        • Might be worth a try…

    • Yep no receipt no believe …..

    • -3

      Iv been buying the au stock for $134.80 at most shops
      Iv got 7 sofar easy to get

      • -2

        I've got 20 of them for $10 each!

  • +3

    Is that chromecast 2? On page one it would be chromecast, I'm confused as their website chromecast 2 still costs $58?

    • Definitely Chromecast 2, they mustn't have updated the website yet.

  • So annoying! I have a US$125 virtual (i.e. no physical card) pre-paid credit card (provided as a reward for doing an online study group) which is ~AU$150. I want to buy a Google Home with it obviously I cannot buy it in store with CC details written down. Has anyone come across an online store that sells he Google Home, with shipping, for less than $150?
    Something is weird with this CC too, seems only US retailers like it. I cant get it to work with Uber, Catch of the Day, or DWI

    • +1

      Would you mind waiting to receive it? There are heaps of sellers on the US eBay selling it for about your price range here and the CC would work.

      • I don't mind, no. Thanks for the suggestion.

    • +1

      If it's in US currency and restricted within same currency may be you cannot use in Aussie stores?

      • Must be the case, I ordered the $199 model off the Google online store, which appears to have processed correctly, but obviously came back with insufficient funds. I was hoping I could pay the difference on a seperate card but I can't see a way to do this with the Google store.

        • +1

          Try bh photo. It's currently on sale and you can set us currency

        • @ozchobie: ooh, so close. With shipping it comes to US$134 only $9 too much!!

    • +1

      Well you could ask them if its ok for your mum/wife/brother to call in and pay over the phone and habe a friend do it that way.

      Edit: n/m didnt read US only

  • Chromecast Ultra is released so why CC2?

    • +2

      No point spending twice as much if you don't have a 4K TV.

      • +3

        Or a slow internet even with 4K TV… :(

        • I feel your pain…

        • @Darkscythe:

          Just not much purposes for me with my current CC1 when I got another TV box for dinner sidedishes.

        • i have NBN.. i would love to be able to use 4k.. no chance on the trash Liberal NBN disaster its slower then adsl for me and sometimes worse then dial up.. i wish labor one the election and they stuck with fiber internet.

        • @vid_ghost:
          I have 100mbit hahaha.

          Just kidding…. But I have had 50mbit for 6 years.

        • +2

          @vid_ghost:

          Luckily I got mine in Labor window, the top speed is 90mbps+ but generally around 65.

          Hate those who grew up in dial-ups making silly decisions to destroy our future, and present.

        • +1

          @kaio:

          When these guys grew up there wasnt even computers! let alone internet .. The colour TV was NEW technology

  • For everyone asking about the Google Home Price Matching to get it for $134.80. Show this website to Officeworks and a lot of the time they will price match it, say that the delivery is free :)

    If that doesn't work, refer to receipts posted in recent Google Home deals.

    • -1

      I used that web sight one office works it works but now I just ask for that price and shops go ok it's not below our cost

      • Haha…yeah ok!!

        You just say can I have this for $134.80 and they oblige without question? I think not.

        • -6

          You have to no how to talk to the sales people not many people can walk in to these shops and get the prices I get

        • +1

          @Dex38313:

          It makes no difference at all how you speak to them if they bother to do what they are meant to, by correctly checking the website of the store you’re price matching to determine the origin of the product, it’s warranty and shipping costs.

          Like I said, 2 OW’s went through the website from head to toe and refused, went to another and they had no issue.

          I guess we can’t all be Sales-Whisperers!!

  • Also for anyone who wants the Chromecast, Joyce Mayne have it for $47 Delivered already online so use that to price match or order :)

  • Just got OW to price match the Chromecast @$44.65 and TGG’s did the Audio for $46.

  • Anyone in perth got a price match for google home??

    • can it be a receipt from a different state?

  • I honestly don't understand the popularity of Google Home. Unless you're planning to spend a lot on automation (which lets face it is a great gimmick if it works but a headache to set up and definitely not something anyone "needs") I don't understand why you wouldn't just keep using phone and web browser.

    • As someone who’s only just gone all in with home automation, it’s not a headache at all and is actually quite simple once you follow the basics of each setup rather then thinking of the whole system.

      It’s made a huge difference in our home in regards to security, convenience and cost reduction in regards to electricity usage etc.

      Speaking of needs, you don’t NEED a lot of things. I’m sure there’s a heap of things you own that you don’t need i.e a TV, that pizza you had the other night, a PC…

      • +5

        Exactly. TBH Nothing on ozbargain is a need… if I need anything I go to coles not ozbargain!

      • Talk to me in 5 years. Let's see how many things still work as they should and are compatible with anything current.

        Security is a different matter. Having your house protected is a lot more important and worthwhile than yelling at a computer to control your lights instead of getting up and flicking the switch.

        • -1

          That’s the same with technology right now i.e amplifiers that are only a few years old not having 4K pass through or Bluetooth, phones being superseded by models just a year or two later and some of those are worth a load more than setting up home automation.

          As for security and your home, they go together perfectly and as an example we were out late yesterday afternoon, a little longer than we anticipated and from my phone I could switch the lights on to make it appear as though we were home and we could walk inside without it being pitch black. Previously we’d need to leave lights on for hours, just wasting electricity if we knew we’d be back at night.

          You don’t have to like it or even use it, that doesn’t mean others can’t.

        • -2

          @Jonesy7707:

          A timer would be a cheaper solution for lights. A desk lamp on a timer would do fine and you could have that up and running for under $40. No you couldn't change it remotely though. Light switches should be available as you walk in the door, so lights on when you come home isn't exactly a draw card. Leaving the lights on for a moment you're not home is wasteful.

          While I'd love to have total control over my home remotely, to switch lights off if they've been forgotten, no way would I recoup the cost of installing the automation.

          Being able to turn on lights and a camera to check the home isn't being invaded is as I said a different story. I would be interested in that, but only at the right price point.

          I'm not for one minute saying I would like to legislate against others doing whatever the hell they want. I'm not interested in running other people's lives. I am however surprised that a product that adds very little convenience is worth so much to so many people.

        • +1

          @syousef:

          Why do you feel that because something isn't convenient to you, it isn't to others? And on that note, we'll agree to disagree.

        • -2

          @Jonesy7707:

          I don't see the value. The convenience you speak of is very limited. I can get off my butt to turn a light on or off. Half the time I'm walking past that switch anyway. It's that simple.

    • The whole problem is the automation requires compatibility on every setup at your home. Even they all support IFFFT, you need to configure one by one. Evey you have got that done, you start worrying about your privacy. http://mashable.com/2017/06/19/china-webcam-hacking/#zANOsat…

    • Phone and web browser? Don't need any of that fancy stuff. I just shout at people from my porch whilst I whittle…. I'm also quite happy with the hand water pump out the back and the weekly visits from the night cart to pickup our poo, so don't need any of that plumbing malarky. ;-)

      Need is a subjective thing. I've had home automation for nearly 20 years and have upgraded kit over time as required. It is way less bleeding edge now than it ever used to be, and is only getting simpler and more reliable. You definitely don't need it, but by gum it can make your life a lot easier.

      I get alerted if my garage door has been left open accidentally, and can close it remotely. I can turn off my living room lights by a voice command so don't have to shift my lazy behind off the couch. Lights get turned off when not in use, saving power. When on holidays, I can make my home look like it's lived in - way better than some sort of timer - switching on the TV and changing channels, powering lights on/off etc etc. None of it absolutely necessary, but I would find it hard to live without now.

  • Got my chromecast 2..thanks for the heads up

  • Just a general question about Google Home if I get the US version, will it work with my lifx,philips hue bulbs in australia?

    • +1

      Yep. The units are the same apart from the plug.

  • +1

    Picked one up from Officeworks for 134.90, cheers.
