Meh - they will refund your membership anytime, so you could do this any day of the week if you only wanted to shop there once.

    • Only once every 2 years though isn't it? So like you're blacklisted for a couple years from doing it again?

      • +1

I haven't head of that. It might be the case in Australia.

        In the US/UK costco, they don't care…

Bit of a late notice :P

    Where's the proof?

    • +17

the person that checks memberships at the entrance has gone for a smoke break to post this onto ozbargain?

It's not well advertised but feel free to call them and confirm. Already went today so can confirm ita on. You need to fill in a form (just name, email, phone number) and they give you a barcode to use at the checkout as your membership.

Facebook has something official called a Mums VIP Costco shopping experience where they have an advertisment but it's for anyone not just mums.

      • It's not well advertised but feel free to call them and confirm.

Don't you need a membership to call them?

  • Nice thanks OP. A proof would be good too.

Letting the non-members trample the right of members. It's not fair.

      • Actually not that bad, car park was busy but store was fine, around 2 people in each que so only 2-5min wait. But maybe worse once everyone finishes work and goes there

        You misspelled a few names.

I was appealing to our multiculturalism and/or cultural pluralism.

    • what about when letting members bringing in the whole family? That's even worse IMHO

      • Only 2 guests can accompany a member.

        • Have you been at a Costco Auburn recently? Last time there was a 6 member family in front of me at the register

        • @GregFiona: it's two per card and you get two cards so that works out, and kids aren't counted

        • @bowtiehoon: you don't get two cards unless you ask for it, in my case there was only one child
and only one card shown(left at the top of the register) so it doesn't work out even if one of the adults is counted as a guest.

Charging membership in the first place in what is bullshit.

That's their business model. That's how they have such a generous returns policy. Don't need a receipt to return.

        • Their business model is taking advantage of sunk cost fallacy.

        • @chickenface:
          Might be unsuitable for you.

        • -3

There is no generous returns policy

        • +3

          @chickenface:

Their business model works for me, if it doesn't work for you just don't shop there. No one is putting a gun to your head and say you gotta shop there. The more competition the better.

        • @android iOS:
          What makes you think so?

        • +1

          @android iOS:
Returning a 5 year old faulty Asus Transformer is pretty generous don't you think?

        • @android iOS:

What return have you been denied at costco?

        • @azukay: If they put a gun to my head they'd also have to buy me a membership. I agree that especially in the grocery market any competition is welcome. Also, the membership model costco uses is bullshit and just free money for them. e.g. supercheap do no receipt returns with their club and effectively pay you $5 to join. Why are you in a thread about free membership for a day anyway? surely it's only of interest to people who aren't already members?

  • Today only shop with needing to buy a $60 membership. Only will 830pm i believe.

That $60 membership is needed anyway. Your description kinda implies that. And FYI, Costco closes at 8:30pm, so can't enter after it anyways.

    • sorry should have been without :) My typing on the phone is really bad :(

Here's the details of the Mum's VIP Shopping experience: https://us.eventbu.com/auburn/costco-nsw-mum-s-vip-shopping-… & here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1446420555437993

Looks like it's on at both Auburn and Crossroads.

Not many details listed but it does say it is for mothers and babies. Shop without a membership. Someone commented on the facebook page that you might need to ring Costco and ask about it.

    • its for anyone, just grab a form from the stall at the entrance before entering.

  • +1

To told me only mothers with babies.

    • Yes

    • Did they just assume your gender?

    One day membership costs $60 / 365 = 16.44 cents
For 16.44 cents, it is not worth my petrol going there.

    • +1

You can cancel your membership any day before it expires and get a full refund

      • Won't get the petrol though.

    • Luckily it closed 3 hours before you made your comment and you missed out on your chance to lose 16 cents.
