Virgin Mobile $30 12M SIM Only Plan w 7GB Data + $50 INTL + UNLTD Calls/Text in Aus

670

Virgin's $30 12M SIM Only plan will be changed for tomorrow (22nd August) only, from 5GB per month to 7GB per month for the life of the plan. This will be available in store and online. If you already have a Virgin postpaid service and add this to your account (or you bring more than one number) then you will also be eligible for their 1GB bonus data for multiple services, making this 8GB.

As with all of their 12M SIM plans, this can be upgraded to a higher 12M plan at any time without extending the contract, or can be upgraded to a 24M Phone plan without any cancellation fees. Cancellation fees will be (25% of the monthly cost)*(number of months remaining) if someone does decide to cancel. See the CIS for full details.

EDIT: This doesn't appear to be listed on the website (as yet). If you go through phone sales or in store it is available. Existing customers check the app to see if the plan is listed there.

  • Awesome! thanks for this. have been waiting to upgrade from my $19 1.5GB plan and wasn't ready to pull the trigger with their 5GB offering. 7GB I'll definitely jump on.

    • I believe that some of their deals have been 'for new services only' in the past. I'm not sure if this is one of those, but if it is, there are always methods to tick the box of a 'new service' whilst still keeping your phone number.

    • I'm still on that $19 plan, so good. Wish they'd offer it again, maybe with 3GB. Ah, if wishes were pennies.

Please tag SIM only plans with "SIM Only Mobile Plan" and if it is a plan that comes with a phone, tag it "Phone plan".

otherwise they will appear in wrong sections in the Mobile Plans page

    • +2

My bad - I didn't realise it needed to be that specific

      • +5

All good, just letting everybody know.

A further explanation: that page is populated using tags, so it will show deals that are tagged using any of the three tags below:

SIM only mobile plan, Prepaid mobile plan and Phone Plan

so it is important to use the tags correctly. (The order the deals appear in are based on positive votes, so good deals appear first.)

Of course, the mods do some editorial duty and make sure the tags are used correctly, but it helps if everybody knows how the page works

Long rant over, enjoy your ozbargaining :)

Jeenee looks to be better value. Same network, more data?

What might make this better for some is data rollover.

      • And intentional credit.

  • Do I need to be a virgin to take advantage of this offer?

    • +2

      Should be a Mobile Virgin!

I found out that pretty much most of my friends had used my phone before me.. felt like such a cuck.

    • +1

      Thats you out then?

  • +1 thanks OP

  • I just signed up to the 12 month sim only Optus plan with 25% off. $30 per month (normally $40) and you get 14GB and unlimited calls / sms.

    • I prefer Virgin as it doesnt limit the international calls to just 20 countries.

    • +1

      Isn't that because 2nd service?

      • You can do it for new services as well

        • Highly doubt that was what happened… guess you are lucky if you get it. I would get that and add the Premier League. Makes it only $5 to have Premier League pass.

        • @overlook: I signed up for it because it was posted here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324960

So it's definitely available. I thought it was for all new services though, but it looks like it's only for additional services. When i spoke to online chat, they didn't specifically say it was just for additional services.

First service with a discount? Or second?

    • but after 12 months is it still 30 dollars value.. or does it go back to 40?

    • how to get the 25% discount? through webchat or phone call?

      • +1

i did it with web chat

    • +1

That would be for a second service; given Virgin is usually cheaper overall, you'd need to factor in the cost of both plans at Optus vs both plans at Virgin.

      • i just use it for national calls (which is unlimited) and data.

    • I wonder how did you ask for the 25% off for the optus plan? I know you said through a web representative, but is there any reference to it? Thank you.

      • I just typed "I'd like to sign up for the 25% off new plans offer"
And they said, yes that's fine. Simple as that.

        • I tried today, they said only for the 2nd service.

        • @joeventus: Yeah - they wanted me to cancel a service and start a new number…told them they lost a customer.

        • @joeventus:
yep sorry, when i first asked about the deal they didn't mention additional services only. I did add my service to an existing plan.

        • @Limosine: yep. I told them the same too.. they not keen to keeping the business rather than having growth on the new business….

  • Any further discount as a velocity member?

    • No, that only comes in for $50 plans or higher

  • Not sure, When I checked, it says 3+2 i.e. total 5 GB not 7.

    • I think it comes in during business hours, or you may have to request it

Somehow Kogan Mobile Yearly Unlimited Plans: $10.90/1GB, $16.90/5GB, $20.90/10GB, $25.90/14GB Equivalent Per Month seems better

    • As long as you don't need international calls the Kogan deals absolutely smash this - family is on Kogan and no issues at all!

    • -3

The Kogan plans are not available anymore.

  • Will be taking up this offer. thank you.

  • I'm on the optus sim only plan i pay $40 a month for 15GB's :) everything else unlimted… $30 for less then half the data!! is ok but nothing special

  • +1

Got excited for a moment - thought it is $30 a year.

  • Note that this doesn't have unmetered music streaming. Jenee mobile looks better. For $30 pm and 12-month lockin you get 10gb data (or less lockin and less data). https://www.jeenee.org.au/products/sim-packs/

  • Can't find any mention of it on there website?

  • I don't think it's today only . It says when you sign up by 30/8 .

  • +1

any one had any success finding this ? no mention on their website yet

    • Best ask a sales rep, I got the plan however got locked into a 12 month contract (which I dont mind) since I was on month to month

Rep said something about new numbers and out of contract numbers can get this deal. I think existing numbers can, however the contract WILL be extended.

So the take away is that you WILL have to be locked into a 12 month contract.

      • yeah sweet, thanks. just contacted live chat and upgraded to the plan in 10mins. Easy.

  • Hey all, just to update - it's not listed on the website. You'll need to go in store or a sales chat/phone sales to get the service.

    • I found it on the website and updated my plan no problems.

      • With 7GB total data, or just the 5GB?

  • 7GB. It's showing in the app since I updated.

Edit: still showing online for me. Under plans, then sim only, then 12 month option.

  • Ummm the website homepage ad says 3+2g. and the criteria summary says 3gb so i assume the extra 2g is 5g. i dont see 7g or the extra 1g for existing customers?

    • This doesn't appear to be listed on the website (as yet). If you go through phone sales or in store it is available. Existing customers check the app to see if the plan is listed there

      • Sorry i should have read the other comments properly. That is correct and it is 7g. I jumped the gun and got it since i dont use all the 10g from 40$ plan. Thanks

  • it's now up on the website. offer valid until 9am AEST 23/8 (tomorrow)

  • Thanks OP

  • has anyone who is currently on a virgin mobile plan, managed to sign up to this?

    • I tried and got rejected =(

They basically said that I would have to pay the cancellation fee to break out of the existing contract and then take up a new one with them

      • same lol

      • Are you on postpaid?

        • Yeah postpaid, spewing cause I signed up to the 30$ deal last week with 5gb, now I see this lol

        • +1

          @montorola:

hey mate, call them up, can confirm I am on postpaid, and they switched me over via the phone.

      • This happened to me. Yes on postpaid. Very strange because I'm on the 30 $ plan and they charged me 20 to change. I can't figure it out. But they reset my data so I've now got 8.5 G for the next 10 days

        • Did you "change plan" in your account setting? When I clicked on it, the $30 plan says 5GB instead of 7GB data.

        • @timliu1996: used live service online. Got a text to confirm it's 7G. Suspect I may have been placed on another 12 month contract which I don't mind for this price but I wish the website was clearer about it. Especially when the page they link to for plan changes says "You can move to a rate plan with the same or higher value at any time, and downgrade back to a current plan of the same value that the service started on. Phone repayments will remain the same when changing your rate plan."

        • @timliu1996: So I just changed my plan, my "change plan" under account settings also said 5gigs, once the plan swapped over my Data Usage meter says 7gigs, so you don't have to use live services if you are currently in the virgin network

  • For some reason I thought VirginMobile no longer existed but the other day I passed by the store at Macarthur square and saw they are still operating. used to be with Virginmobile before but changed to Optus as they don't seem to have a great range of mobile phones available on their plans.??

  • Why is this ad expired when it expires on the 30th of August? Check the hot offers sections under SIM Plans

    http://www.virginmobile.com.au/hotoffers/?i_cid=hm_wid_wid3_…

    • Because the one you're referring to has 5GB…….this deal post is for 7GB

  • Anyone got data to spare, would make my day if someone can spare some data gifting to me. : )
