    I'm pretty sure these guys feed you too, is that correct? Unlike that shoddy Air Asia who charges through the nose for food on the plane, not to mention the baggage allowance of 7kg!!

    • +1

      who charges through the nose for food on the plane, not to mention the baggage allowance of 7kg

      It's the other way around:

      who charges extra for checked-in luggage, though the food is cheap. C'mon, Nasi Lemak for 10MYR, that's < 3 AUD. You couldn't get it here at that price.

      • Airasia food is horrible.

  • Do you think it's worth travel insurance for a trip like this, if all you're doing is staying in Beijing?

    • You travel without travel insurance?

      • For what? Please explain

          http://smartraveller.gov.au/guide/all-travellers/insurance/p…

          • The Australian government won't pay your medical bills for you

        • for medical cover. theft & the rest usually is a waste of time. But injure yourself, and need to be medi-vac, then you're in for a fortune.

        • @greenpossum: What I'm asking is what exactly are you insuring yourself against, i always get travel insurance, considering not to for a 7 day trip to the a scary unknown that is China.

        • @supabrudda: Even for the cheap skate, insurance is a good spend right?

        • @defmay: Why not take a look at a typical insurance policy? You think you might not have an accident that requires costly medical intervention or even repatriation in China?

        • @greenpossum: I think i will look at the typical policies, i know they generally cover really costly things that i wouldnt be able to pay back in a lifetime, though, when i was reading through that stuff last time I wondered how likely is that stuff actually is

        • +1

          @defmay: It all depends on your situation. If you do thrill sports like skiing you may need extra cover. If you have a relative that might cark it back home requiring immediate return, you may need that. But definitely you need medical cover because that's too expensive to risk not having.

        • @greenpossum: Cheers, i'm the kind of person that's a cheap skate but also over-worries, what a combo!

        • @defmay:

          check your credit card of course, see if it provides insurance. usually only gold or above or whatever your bank calls them (ie not the basic one)

        • +2

          @defmay:

          Yeah, It's not that much (or free on some credit cards).

          e.g. 2 weeks in China for a 35yo
          1Cover basics $61 (medical onkly)
          TID using 6% off TIDSAVE coupon) $70 (medical & some extras)
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/325164

          Or if you have a gold/platinum credit card (or Amex) they might offer travel insurance too. When we used to travel a lot we relied on our Amex cards.

        • @greenpossum: You don't need to be doing thrill sports - most Australians injured overseas are from motor vehicle accidents.

        • +2

          @defmay:

          Except medical bills are generally pretty cheap in China.

          I got bitten by a dog in Kyrgyzstan. Rather than flying back to Australia, I flew to China (got the last ticket locally which insurance could not get through there agents) and got immunoglobulin in China. The bill was like $300 compared to the $10,000 or so here. The insurance company was very happy.

          @sambutler9876: and no side effects? barking or butt sniffing or a strong desire for powdered milk?

  • I'm considering a trip to Nanjing in late September - the cheapest is $1300 then. Shows that this is a good deal though

    • +1

      Found $796, use google flights to search.

      • Thanks!

  • Need flights from perth

  • Why not SYdney :( would book tonight

    • Fly to Melbourne

      • mm not worth the diff I dont think

      • Will you take us in your private plane?

  • A visa is needed right as it is return to Australia therefore no visa free 72 hour?

    • +1

      Well your final destination is China so you'll need a visa anyway.

    • 72 hour visa doesn't work for A->C->A. It works for A->C->X->A.

  • How the heck they make any money with these prices!?

    It's almost like visa cost more than the flight?

  • I recently had a $350 return from Sydney. There don't appear to be many seats on each flight at the sale price, standard stuff. I'd be surprised if the sale doesn't cover Sydney too, perhaps largely sold out.

    Hainan airlines is '5 star' only according to Hainan. They are a Chinese airline. There is no in-flight entertainment. Chinese don't need it, they just sleep, chill, meditate, entertain themselves.

    Baggage allowance is 2 * 23kg bags. You must collect your bags after the international leg, they aren't checked through to the destination (some Chinese carriers check them all the way through).

    Email to their Australian email address works well. They can answer questions such as where the hotel transfer desk is in the terminal.

    Don't forget to add the cost of the Chinese visa.

  • For Brisbanites I found rtn Bris to Kunming with stopover in Shenzhen for $495

    That's pretty cheap.. I mean what's an extra $150? and to Yunnan! gateway to Lijiang and Dali. Beautiful scenery. It's cheap because it's exactly where I want to go. Also prices are avail in October which is nice weather.

  • FYI all - This sale extends well into 2018. I am booking from mar-jun
