In before someone asks how much 60,000 QFF points are worth.

      • +4

It's actually 40k. You have to wait a year for the remaining 20k. Pretty crappy deal imo

        • Especially seeing as the earn is 0.5 PPD. I earn 1.5 Velocity points per dollar spent on my Velocity Amex Platinum, granted the fee is higher but I get a free flight, insurance, lounge passes etc.

I got the annual fee waived for first year by applying in store.

    • Can this be confirmed somehow?

      • OP mentioned it worked for StGeorge deal. That is good to know it works too for bankofmel.

    • Which branch? First name of staff? Did you open any other accounts?

Reason I'm asking is that I asked BoM for fee waiver based on StGeorge deal and they didn't do it - said they can't match StG in-branch "deal" here because it's not on StG website, it's only hearsay on third party website ozbargain

      • Matthew @ Malvern. I opened up a transaction account too.

    So it's actually $99 for 40,000 points, or $198 for 60,000 points?

  • +3

$99 for 40,000 isn't terrible, a business class round the world award is only 280K points, or $700 if you used this card as a benchmark for acquiring points.
I smashed through about 10-15 credit card offers in the last 3 years and just booked my round the world honey moon on points in business =D

    • what route was RTW business ticket?

      • Sydney>France>Iceland>France>Kenya>Tanzania>Kenya>Maldives>HongKong>Melb>Syd flying Qantas, Cathay, Qatar, BA
The Paris/Iceland, and Kenya/Tanzania flights I booked separately as there were no availability on points. Most people seem to recommend booking these 12 months in advance, I did it 4 months in advance and with a mate's Platinum QFF (I highly recommend doing this as it opens up a lot more availability)

Melay are you looking to do a RTW soon?

        • Sign up for British Airways as they're really good for short haul such as Paris/Iceland.

        • Cool destinations! Yes thinking of doing RTW on 2019. We have used up most of our points on BC to Europe last May so currently on the lookout best possible way to earn and spend the points.

        • @melay0326:

Start with the Anz. If you and partner gets approved then 150k total and no annual fees.

        • @nightelves: thanks for the tip but still currently waiting for the 12months grace period since we cut it. We got 250K combined for QFF, 210K combined for Velocity and a bit some from AMEX which we might convert depending which airline we are going to use

        • @melay0326: You can do basically any destinations OneWorld fly to. Assuming it is the Qantas RTW award fare, you get 15 stops, max 35k miles (plus a number of other rules). 280k points per person in business. Check out the Qantas / OneWorld RTW Award thread at AFF.

Can also do it through Cathay with slightly different rules/requirements, usually for a smaller amount of points.

        • @melay0326:

I just set myself a point valuation e.g. 0.5 cents per point, at which I'm willing to 'purchase' points which makes sense relative to my redemption valuation (e.g. 10c per point for RTW business at the upper end, or maybe 2c per point if converting to gift cards).

Then I just jump on everything and anything (any card where annual fee/points is less than 0.5c). I'd definitely go RTW rather than point to point redemptions, as even having just two countries could work out to cost less points. Best of luck with your RTW!

      • Speaking of RTW, this was one of the best deals I've seen. Link to deal

    • tightshang, that's an awesome itinerary. how much were the surcharges (fuel, etc) all up for the RTW business ticket?

      • +1

Surchage was $1.5k per person - a large component was because I couldn't avoid flying BA for the times I wanted for Paris to Nairobi. Many people suggest trying to avoid BA if possible as they have the highest surcharges.

  • Tried and stucked at the last step 'send SMS verification codes..'

  • Might be a stupid question, but would the St George Amplify Card be treated as the same or different account? Got that one and wouldn't mind this one too…..

    • When I spoke to the people at the BOM branch, they told me they were separate and that is why I signed up in branch some 5 weeks ago. I will only find out once the three months is over.

  • damn, i tot it;s 0.75 point per every dollar spent
