2XU Black and Gold Elite MCS tights are their flagship product which is not commonly discounted in Australia (the unpopular Black / Black colour is often discounted, as well as the first generation of MCS). This site also stocks the normal 2XU compression tights at a significant discount to what I could find in Australia. The discount code brings it down to $100 + $16 shipping.

research found these do not help/aid performance/recovery whatnot.
they do make you look like a cyborg though.

    • I reckon I could pick up chicks in them.

Only if they're wearing Lorna Jane

      • A burlap sack and duct tape works better…

    • Correction, they make you look like a gay Cyborg.

      • Not that there's anything wrong with that.

        • C-3PO: Artoo says that the chances of the effectiveness of compression tights are 725 to 1.

    • I seem to remember reading a study that states you would need to wear these for 12 hours+ after your workout for them to be fully effective.
Which to me sounds a bit icky.

    • What research?
As far as I'm aware, compression garments have been shown to:
      - significantly improve recovery from resistance training
      - provide significant benefit to strength performance within 48 hours following a damaging bout of training
According to 'Compression Garments and Recovery from Exercise: A Meta-Analysis. Brown et al. (2017)'

I believe their affect on aerobic training is limited, if that's what you're referring to?

      • The research was commissioned by Nike sports professionals themselves and found to be exactly what elcheapoinoz stated

        • @zedem:
Thanks for the link - looks like this study was conducted for running only

@zedem: Not taking a dig at you but you just linked one random online article from a website, which seemed to have gotten their info from time magazine lol. Never link any sort of magazine or written article by a journalist because that doesn't mean anything. This is just some OCD kicking in from having done evidence based practise courses at uni. Anyway, there's hundreds of research studies and peer reviewed journal articles about literally every topic. How many of these can support the same findings and how many are internally valid (free from chance, confounders and bias) and externally valid (how it can be generalised to other situations and other people)? Then you have to question the hierarchy level of evidence, study quality/bias, statistical precision of results, effect size and relevance, etc.

Talking smack aside I've owned numerous pairs of tights. I've had the normal 2xu ones in full length (and shorts), 2xu Elite, 2xu Elite MCS, Virus Bioceramic Elite, Skins A400 Power Shorts and other crap brands.
First of all, the fabric in the standard 2XU tights are thin and yeah they don't really feel like much. They don't even feel like they would do anything. I think these would be comparable to Nike tights from what I've seen in reviews - often said to be really thin. Can't confirm as I've never owned Nike tights before but from what I know they're pretty standard stuff. Their pro/elite range whatever it is may be better?
The 2XU Elite MCS, Virus Bioceramic Elite and Skins A400, however, are completely different. Even just touching a pair, they feel much different; the fabric is a different material and much thicker. From a bro science perspective, I can say they do help with reducing muscle vibration and improving blood flow.

Right now I only use these three pairs. If I were to buy more tights, I would definitely rather pay more for these ones than cop any of the standard tights you see on the market. The 2XU standard ones are 145 rrp and often reduced to like 70 or 80 but it's just not worth it.

EDIT: Having done a few experiments myself, I do find the more premium tights to help reduce delayed onset muscle soreness, but other factors would of affected it: protein consumption, how much of a caloric surplus/deficit I was in, dehydration?, volume (weight x reps), how fried my CNS was, etc. In all honesty though, I personally think the Elite MCS tights are great. Are they absolutely necessary? Probably not. Do they 'work'? For me, yes.
