eBay Price Match Guarantee: eBay Match Competitors Price within 48 Hours of Purchase and Refund You Difference (Certain items)

3072

This post might be out of date.
Please See the current discussion in the 2018 revision of the deal.

Not sure if this is a bargain but I certainly wasn't aware of it, came across when searching for headphones, seems like Ebay will price match any Aussie business with an ABN so could be very useful with the current 10% off & notorious mark up that retailers do. I'm struggling to find the list of Qualifying Items so if anyone comes across it let us know.

You can see the banner if you do this search for example - https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=focal&_osacat=293&_…

The T & C's http://pages2.ebay.com.au/pricematchguarantee

Update September 2

At this current time, there are only a limited selection of items that eBay will price match, and they are listed under

Top Headphones

https://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/top-headphones

Top Vacuums

https://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/top-vacuums

More items will be added to the range at a later date.

eBay definitely see amazon a threat!

    • +6

Too bad eBay can't give you prime and 30 minutes delivery time

      • +6

Have they explicitly come out and said they will do 30 minutes delivery time tho?

        • +33

          Highly doubt it in Australia..

        • Who knows but Ebays response to it is "eBay valet " lmao

        • @brezzo:
Why not, everything is just "down the road" here in Australia right?

        • +3

@brezzo: Wages are too high even Amazon can't do that shit.

        • +3

@HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: are you volunteering to take a pay cut?

        • +5

          @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal:
You really think the extra $6ph per person is what makes the difference?
Or could it be the $1 million+ property pricetag that stops them from having enough local warehouses..

        • +1

          @outlander:
Guess that is why there are no successful businesses in New York

        • +1

          @rifter:

Whoa, somebody call the papers, tell them to stop the newpress. I think we have detected sarcasm over here

        • @brezzo: Totally agreed. Try delivering stuff in 30 minutes to Mr. "Yates Farawayman" living in some suburb named "South Bumfeck" 490 KMs south of Darwin in the middle of some desert.

Amazon certainly knows the size of this continent, and unique challenges that come with doing business here, so fat chance of a 30 minutes delivery promise. :-)

        • @CocaKoala: they don't do 30 mins delivery to most parts of the US as well. It is usually only cities close to their warehouses and on certain items that are available there.

      • +1

I think something similar to prime is coming soon, eBay sent me a survey link where they are asking questions to bring the service similar to prime, they have questions like how much fee is reasonable etc…there were lots of questions to find out how much the user is willing to pay and also questions about delivery times etc….

    • Not sure if that would cause them to do this, considering Amazon in Australia is still a long way off.

    • Amazon juggernaut is coming. It will take no prisoners. Anticipating 7% market share in 2 years. More like 37% in 5 years. imo.

Harvey Normans, JB hifi, SCA, Repco, Bunnings, officeworks, Myer will be overtaken by Pezos's army.

The God of light has the Dragons and the white walkers.

      • Most of those will fall eventually even if Amazon wasn't coming.

      • yeh bezos will suck the blood of any community near to his warehouses, with his high demands on staff.

The tax payer will be paying for towns of idiots who move into town to get an amazon job and then quit when they are sick of it and theres nothing else in town.

  • +6

    This is very interesting.

Would they price match a vouchered price or the base price before vouchers?

  • +6

JV won't be happy with this post.

  • +1

If anyone can find a list of what qualifies I'll add it to the main post

      • Limit of 3 Qualifying Items per transaction per person
      • Auction format listings, listings where a reserve price is used, re-lists, private listings and the eBay Valet features are excluded from this offer.
      • Gift cards/certificates/vouchers are excluded from this offer
      • Items in “For parts or not working/repair” condition are not eligible for the Promotion
      • Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher
      • The total credit to be applied subject to the offer is capped at $100 per person for each Qualifying Item
      • In the event you return or seek a refund on any Eligible product, the value of the discount will not be refunded to you
  • +6

Refund is to paypal account, which is much better than a voucher that expires in a month.

  • So no price beat by %?

  • +6

I guess the important bits in Ts and Cs.
Limit of 3 Qualifying Items per transaction per person.
Auction format listings, listings where a reserve price is used, re-lists, private listings and the eBay Valet features are excluded from this offer.
The offer entitles you to a refund of the difference between the purchase price of the Eligible product purchased on www.ebay.com.au and the price of the Corresponding Item as verified by eBay, to be applied as a credit to your PayPal account.
The total credit to be applied subject to the offer is capped at $100 per person for each Qualifying Item.
eBay reserves the right to disallow or reverse a discount in circumstances where it believes or suspects a sale or purchase of any item as part of this offer has not been made in good faith or where a user has attempted to circumvent these terms and conditions in any way. This includes any collusive conduct by buyers or sellers, attempts to participate in the offer under multiple identities or to otherwise receive more coupons than permitted in these terms and conditions or any other conduct which eBay considers unfair or untoward.
Gift cards/certificates/vouchers are excluded from this offer.
Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher.
Your eBay.com.au and PayPal accounts must be active at the time of redemption (not suspended nor made inactive by eBay or PayPal) and be registered under the same email address.
In the event you return or seek a refund on any Eligible product, the value of the discount will not be refunded to you and any funds that have been credited to your account will be reversed.

    • +2

      pretty meh

The total credit to be applied subject to the offer is capped at $100 per person for each Qualifying Item.
Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher.

    • +1

Needing to have same email address in paypal account is annoying. My wife and I use separate eBay accounts but share a paypal account.

      • +1

You could add your wife's email address to your PayPal account.

  • wwow never knew of this, good find and awareness post

  • good post!

  • This is awesome! Didn't know

  • +4

Do I need to add a shop to my small business web site? I suspect that it will only sell items that I might want to purchase off eBay. I can't see this latest ebay offer not being abused.

  • +4

Are shipping costs included in the eBay Price Match Guarantee?
No. We compare the item’s purchase price (excluding taxes and shipping fees) on eBay.com.au and the Competitor’s website in order to determine if a price match guarantee is warranted.

How does eBay reimburse me if a lower-priced, identical item is found on a qualifying competitor’s website?
eBay will refund the difference between the eBay purchase price and the competitor’s price into your PayPal account. Refunds may take up to three weeks to be processed. eBay reserves the right to cancel the refund in the event that a price match purchase is cancelled or returned. eBay also reserves the right to deny claims in the event of buyer abuse/fraud and seller abuse/fraud.

HA, they want you to wait 3 weeks and hope you forget there's a cheaper price somewhere…
I'd rather buy that cheaper price if it's much lower than original price minus Cashrewards, don't have to wait 3 weeks.
    Amazon, come faster!

    • +2

HA, they want you to wait 3 weeks and hope you forget there's a cheaper price somewhere… <

thought the refund request had to be done within 48h of purchase and that 3 week is the wait time to get a refund upto max amount of $100

      • +1

Let's make it better, say it's done automatically, you still need to wait up to 3 weeks to get the refund.
Additional anxiety and stress waiting for that price difference in your PayPal account (if you're the average Ozbargainer)
You don't know if the request gets rejected or they forget to refund you.
If you buy the cheaper price, there's no need for all these.
And it's a price match, not a price beat.

We compare the item’s purchase price (excluding taxes and shipping fees)

Now this, will get exploited (or not honoured at all), see those websites selling stuff at $0.01 - $1 and charges $100 shipping, what are they going to do about that.

    • Interesting… If they disregard shipping then we can compare eBay sellers who do free shipping (ie factor in shipping into their sale price) against other sellers who have expensive or flat rate shipping.

  • +4

Better than nothing, but 48hours is a very small window, I can't imagine many circumstances where prices will change.

Handy for people who like to buy first and price compare later, but that's certainly not the MO of the average Ozbargainer.

    • +3

Very useful for those of us who impulse buy based on an ozbargain post worried that it will sellout and then suffer buyers remourse when 15 minutes later someone posts a cheaper price.

      • +5

        This guy ozBs

      • What does remorse mean?

        • +3

Remorse is the feeling you get when you dont use condoms in lovemaking and start developing scabs on your willy after a few days.

        • +2

          @zolinger:

          That's divorce, not remorse.

        • +1

@Scab: Are divorce and remorse mutually exclusive?

        • @zolinger: of course

  • can i price match the office work price match? lol!

    • +5

And back to officeworks to price match what's eBay's price matched item.
      Price matcheption.

  • Read the T&C, please note

The total credit to be applied subject to the offer is capped at $100 per person for each Qualifying Item.

  • +21

Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher.

Not much of a deal here tbh.

  • +1

only time i buy high priced items on ebay is when there's a voucher, so what are the chances the external retail price will ever be lower that the ebay price after voucher within 48hrs, highly unlikely.

    • I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've found plenty of items cheaper elsewhere compared to eBay even after a 20% off voucher. Fortunately I check before I buy.

      • surely you would only buy through ebay if it's the cheapest online price, if there's an external retailer who is selling it cheaper at that moment, why would you still go through ebay?

        • Agreed, but I was just commenting on the likelihood of finding an external price cheaper. It can and does happen.

I might buy through eBay over an external retailer who doesn't offer paypal as a payment method or was not reputable, but only if the price difference was small. The eBay price match guarantee would be useful in those circumstances.

  • +3

    Best use case:
Amazing deal is seen on OZB.
    It sells out quickly.
As a backup, I purchase from Ebay and show competitor price.

I don't see how this will work. Ebay will say stock is not available :(

But, that also means that the same thing could happen anyway even if it was in stock when you file for a refund, and it becomes out of stock when investigate.

Also, what if you buy the most expensive item from a friend, not the cheapest..

Love to see this in action..

    • I don't see how this will work. Ebay will say stock is not available :(

5 minutes in gimp edit the screenshot showing stock avialable :-D

      • Yes, But when Ebay check the link it will be out of stock and they will probably refuse to honour it like every company…

        • -1

But you can always argue it was instock at the time you took the screenshot.

        • +2

          @mathew42:

Do you wish to be the Guinea pig? :) who knows

    • i agree with you
same apply to officework, they will always ring the closest shop and check their price and stock status before they beat the price.

  • -1

This will just make ebay items more expensive, as the sellers can easily mark up their price tags within $100 yet buyers are not at lost.

  • +4

The question is why would you buy it online when you can get it cheaper at a local retail store?

    • I agree, wish eBay would have a way to punish sellers who jack up prices during these special deals.

      • you mean by getting more fees based on the % of higher the sale price?

      • This isn't really a special deal, and it's more like the ACCC that punish Australian businesses for unscrupulous practices such as artificially inflating prices before a sale.

  • 1 Take a photo of a competitor’s offer and send it to us [email protected] within 48 hours of the original purchase
2 We’ll check the competitor’s price & model is the same, plus is in stock
3 We’ll refund you the difference in price to your PayPal account

  • This could be good for when you buy from ebay, and then a 10-20% off promo starts the next day.

Can you buy an AU item and then price match a grey import? I doubt it, but that would be the best use for it.

    • Model number would likely be different based on region.

  • Seems like a whole lot of hassle for no benefit. Especially if your product is not deemed to be 'identical'. I'd just purchase off the original supplier

  • A good example can be people who bought Dell inspiron 15 7000 using coupon at full price from ebay can claim price difference as it's cheaper on Dell's website. that will make it even cheaper.

    • It's a maximum of $100 for each item.

    • You cannot use it with coupons. It's in the terms and conditions

      • If you read again it’s before coupon price and the price their website is what I am talking about. In your invoice it shows you have paid full amount so you can claim that it’s discounted on their website.

  • +1

Can I match my own eBay store

    • You're funny… but no, unless you're an Aussie retailer with an ABN and you have a store with stock of your item available to the public… Your store will likely be popular with OzBargainers already in that case :)

  • Can they pricematch Shopmonk's Macbook Air? Shopmonk technically has an ABN….

  • Downvote.this is not a deal

    • +1

      Wheres the downvote then?

      • Im banned from downvoting… so asking others to

  • +1

This is just marketing. If you can get the price cheaper elsewhere, you would most likely purchase it, rather than buy it from an feeBay seller and then apply for the price match guarantee refund.

  • Could you l get a discounted price for this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Ultra-High-Capacity-E…

As Amazon don't ship this to Aus and on eBay, the prices for this item are around $120 AUD

  • +1

there an easy way to automate this?

    • Limited to 3 transactions per person. There is probably no need to automate 3 transactions… unless you have 100's of feeBay, Paypal$$$ accounts.

  • A bit confused
What sort of products are the best to use this deal

Given that the max is $100.

And the requirements of price matching

  • +10
Tried it on a air bed and got the response below from EBay

At this stage, the eBay Price Match Guarantee only applies to selected products, namely:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/top-headphones and
    https://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/top-vacuums

Apologies for any confusion. We will be extending the scope of our guarantee in the near future.

    • +4

WTF. Well, it's next to useless then.

    • Well that gets to the bottom of all this, forget reading the fine print. OP should edit title and decription to reflect tis.

      • +4

I couldn't find any mention of headphones or vacuums in the fine print. This would be false advertising wouldn't it?

  • negging because I tried this and got no response from [email protected]

Merged from eBay Expanded 'best Price Promise' Range, Includes Amazon. Refund Difference in 48hrs. (Select Items)

So eBay have expanded their price match range from older post by ellave. Thought I would make a new deal to bring to peoples attention.

Buy any item from their 'best price promise' range and be refunded the difference of a matched competitor on the list below, Amazon included.
eBay customer service will supply eBay coupon with difference (coupon expires within 90 days). T&C's

It doesnt mention about shopping cart discounts like "POWERUP" or P5OZZIE" so it may stack.

I've been trying to find an item cheaper on their list (without purchasing from Delaware etc), and am struggling. They must be very quick to price match local retailers.
    Apple watch ebay: $513.03 Shipped
    Myer Watch: $300 delivered
    Refund of $213.03 and maybe + $25.65(5% P5OZZIE)

Price match any item on their list
