Does anyone know if this does RF?

Just got a Camel, Camel, Camel notification

Did you, did you, did you?

    • Receives via rf and wifi and blasts infrared so positioning matters but isn't too sensitive as it blasts in all directions and has an ir extension that comes in the package. Can accept up to two. I find it hits the mark 99% of the time unless line of sight is obstructed.

Note "usually ships in 1 to 2 months"
What do you mean RF ?

The hub is RF to the Remote if its the same as mine but I don't think this one does RF to client devices.

    • RF as in radio frequency for controlling things like ceiling fans.

I know the Elite does, but I don't think this does at this price point.

      • I know what RF is but some people want RF between remote and hub so that they can put it in a cupboard.
Other people want RF to control ceiling fans.

I have the ultimate and it doesn't so i doubt the elite has the client RF

        • The later Elites support RF control.

  • Great for home automation. Good combo with my google home and arlo pro cameras.

  • Love Ozbargain, great deal on the Google Home yesterday. Then this today awesome thanks OP!

  • I'm getting $USD69.99 for this

    • Carrier Pigeons?

    • plus postage…

  • Usually ships within 1 to 2 months.

Meh, I have been waiting longer than that for the price to come down again so another month will be ok. In the order confirmation it says delivery will be between October 3 and October 30.

  • Own this, suggest you but another. No screen, no Bluetooth… there are many better ones.

I currently have the Harmony 650 which has a screen, but I will prefer a simple remote with RF and IR blaster and IR blaster extender. I hate having to keep the remote pointed at the TV for over 10 seconds waiting for the receiver to power up and the remote to change the input. If you need a screen, why not use the phone app?

      • +1

Agreed. I also have 650s - and had for years. As far as I recall, this can control devices via bluetooth (Wii, Playstation ? etc). This is also so much more robust and reliable - plus uses a CR battery - which lasts about 6x longer than the AA's in the 650, which have to be replaced pretty frequently. Screen is overrated. You'd be surprised how few buttons you really need to use - easy enough to learn by feel, usually there is enough light from the TV - otherwise use the phone app - or use your phone to throw a bit of light on the remote.

        • Depends on what you have.

The lack of Bluetooth is becoming increasingly annoying (IQ3 works but not well with this) and more devices are moving to Bluetooth remotes. It's also not very wife friendly as the controls aren't labeled like the touch version we upgraded from.

There is a version of this with a hub & Bluetooth that I will upgrade to one day :)

        • @lolitsme: I find this way more wife friendly than the 650 - because it is significantly more reliable. No more trying to troubleshoot why the 650 isn't doing what it is 'meant' to be doing. As noted below, you can get a separate remote with a screen that works with the hub.

    • it has bluetooth..
yes no screen, but it's no biggie for me.
I only need it when i loose sync (shut the power down or something) and need to sync the setup back.
with blasters, it never skips a beat.

to top it all off, you can upgrade the remote later down the track for one with a screen, and keep the hub..
the hub is the same in all hub powered products.

  • Awesome bought one.

Hopefully in 1/2 months when I'll receive, it will be compatible with Google Home in Australia.

    • I assumed already was…

  • Shipping took less than 2 weeks from one I got last it was this price a few weeks ago, very disappointed in the app, you have to log on every time you want to use it, very inconvenient.

    • I'm on Android. Never have to log in. Maybe an iPhone issue, which I doubt, or a settings issue.

      • very strange because also on android, do you have to log in at all?

any time I exit the app this is what I get:

        1. first screen I have option to set up new hub or connect to existing

        2. Pick hub from list

        3. log in to account (not opton to remember password, must be entered every time using e-mail option)

        4. goes to last screen I was on for hub, could be an activity config page, then have to navigate back to the activity page to run an activity.

By the time I've done the above I could of just pressed the power button on 3 remotes and not spent an extra $100 lol

        • Just opened it. Took about 2 seconds. Click on app, timer screen says Logging into Harmony Hub Family Room on [my network name] - Verifying configuration. Then I'm in - screen says "Harmony" with green background across the top with the Acvitivies and Devices tabs below that. Defaults to Activities tab listing my activities. Bottom of screen says "Edit Activities". I'm sure I logged in initially - but I don't recall even having to login after a phone reboot. Edit - I'm only using one hub although intend firing up another 2 that I have bought. Maybe having multiple hubs complicates it?

        • @belbo: I don't recall even being given an option to name my hub, I may have to look at some basic tutorials tonight and see if there's something I missed in the set-up. All I could think of was because I didn't use the fb or gmail option the login won't automate? do you recall if you used one of these options or just an email?

        • @yacman: If I go Menu > About > Versions it shows my gmail address as the user name - so that may be your issue. Maybe there is a support forum?

        • @belbo: just an update, after setting up with the desktop software the app works as it is meant to, seems I was in some kind of setup loop by only using the app to configure it.

Although I made a change to some power delay settings and added some activities and now the device has become unresponsive, app has hub status as "away". going to try some troubleshooting tonight but may need to reset the hub.

Anyone know if I do if I can just re-sync the settings from the account?

  • I just got an email from Amazon saying it has been posted and should be here by September 25th.

    • Do you just need an adapter for changing plugs to Aussie power socket?

      • I haven't got it yet (due to be delivered today) but I believe the hub is powered by micro-USB, so so I will just use a spare phone charger.
