Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 Headphones down to $139 ($12 P/H or Free Pickup) @ PCCG

130

Price further dropped at PC Case Gear, I'm pretty sure this is now the cheapest price in Australia if you can pick up. Also some 8GB USB sticks for $19.

First saw the post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31800 a couple of weeks ago, this might be considered a dupe but I thought this price drop is worth posting.

I bought it when it was $149, now they'd dropped the prices again to $139! That's pretty much the cheapest in Australia if you can pick up from their Dingley Warehouse, cheaper than ebay sellers. Add $12 for postage and it becomes $151 which is okay considering you are buying from PC Case Gear and you get 1 year warranty. Amazon USA is cheaper but warranty would be a hassle and you'd have to wait for international delivery times.

The headphone itself is pretty good, very comfy and decent sound for the price, great for gamers.

looks like a good price (for australia). The only downside is it looks like you cant replace the cord. I'm very good at destorying those cords by running over them on the office chair :/

    • hang on ill see if i can find you a link for a decent soldering iron :P

  • great headphones, particularly for gaming. At this price its such a great bargain!!!

Actually I think they are not good for gaming at all. You can get a cheaper headset for games that will give you fuller, more detailed sounds. On the other hand it's really good for music.

I would have to disagree there, they are exceptional for games and detail. The only aspect that could be better is the quantity of bass.

  • Awesome headphones

It's funny that the linked review is from 2008 and the price mentioned is lower than what's being offered in this deal.

I'm not knocking the headphones or PCCG in particular, I’m just showing discontent for the prices of things in Australia. I'd jump on this deal if it were closer to the $85 it's currently being offered in the US but at such an inflated price I'm inclined to look around more to find better value in other pairs even if I have to import them.

    • Where is it offered for $85 in the US?

        • Cheers
          gonna take a look

        • Will Amazon ship these to Aus?

          • @chocky005: They will, but you will incur about $30-40 shipping. Having these from an Australian retailer with warranty is a much better choice.

            • +1

@hybir: Yes, I know the shipping from amazon ruins the low price. If you were going to buy from amazon I'd advise you to buy from PCCG instead for the local warranty.

However, my point was that the price for AD700 if you were to buy as someone in the USA is almost half that being offered here and if you were willing to buy from amazon you could have bought these for cheaper anytime you wanted (the $85 price tag has been there for years). When it comes to value for money, this deal is just ok (good price in Australia but hardly a bargain).

For example: I'm not saying this is a superior pair of headphones but you can buy a Sennheiser HD595 online for ~$200AUD delivered which is being sold for ~$200USD on amazon. So you're not paying MORE for the same compared to the USA.

  • I just don't get it. Isn't it cheaper on eBay for $129.95 + $9.95 shipping?
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700-HEADPHON…

Or is the warranty worth another $10?

    • Warranty is always worth the $10, unless it's like half price overseas
(FWIW there have been no reported fakes of the AD700s yet)

    • The eBay ones only have 3 months warranty, the extra warranty from PCCG is way worth the $10.

    • Buy a 'genuine' headphone on ebay at your own risk.

  • Holy crap these things are getting cheaper… Wonder if they're EOL…. after all they're 3 years old

Is there any way to change the shipping options on amazon for these? When I go to pay on amazon the only shipping option is priority shipping which costs over $30. Total works out to be about $130 which isn't much cheaper than this deal.

all the reviews for these have been excellent, but I agree with fufufu - it's hard to consider it a good deal knowing that it's so much cheaper in the US, but I guess if it's the best you can get in Oz…

  • These are great headphones. I bought a pair about 2 years back for nearly $200, so this seems like a great bargain. If I needed a second pair, I'd be jumping on these…

  • went to hongkong weeks ago, saw a lots of audio technicas headphones, some as low as AUD 25..
    should get i but i didnt :(

    • How did you know they were real?

      • +1

Cause Audio Technica also make low end gear.
But beware there are knock offs of AT, in particular the portable headphones range.

    • Definately fakes. I'm guess they were the portable ones. I saw fakes of ATs everywhere in China, TW and HK, I'm not sure if these are the specific models but they looked like these:

      http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_26&produ…

They had the limited edition gold ones and the lime green ones if I remember correctly.

  • Apparently these are grey imports and are not covered under an Australian warranty, according to minidisc.com.au and their distributor

    • REALLY? That's interesting. I would definately go the Amazon route if it works out to be cheaper in that case.

I'd imagine headphones don't usually require warranty service anyway so it's less of a gamble compared to other electronics.

      • Yeah these are not sourced from the AT distributor in Australia according to both minidisc and headphonics.
They do however come with a one year warranty with PCCaseGear, ie if something goes wrong return it to PCCaseGear for a warranty.
