It really is a bargain. Simplest yet effective model.

I've had both. Do yourself a massive favour and get a Mi Robot instead!

Judging buy the posts on ozbargin. xiaomi seems to be the one to go for in this price bracket.

    • +2

maybe because this Roomba is never in the same Xiaomi price bracket before?

      • +3

Your Correct, its not in the same price bracket, The Xiaomi is cheaper and the Technology is ahead of at least the Roomba 630 model.

    • -6

Could also because of the massive Mi fanbase / brand recognition. Bose is also the most popular bluetooth headphone - does it make it the best though.

Another consideration is that Xiaomi is relatively new so the long-term reliability is still unknown, whereas the Roomba has been around for years, is built like a tank, and has a great modular design with most replacement parts easily available price.

      • +5

The Xiaomi vacuum cleaner has been around long enough, its reliable.

        • And easy to get parts… could not be happier with the mi robot

      • You dare speaketh against the Mi!?

As a roomba fanboy, I'm on my 4th roomba, so I would say they are NOT built like a tank. I am very careful about keeping the floor clear of hazards, but just one slip up can ruin the whole unit. First one battery gave out after a year or so. Next one gearbox wear/clogging until it stopped working (even after several disassemblies and clean outs). Another burnt out the motor after catching a bootlace on the side brush and dragging a doc martin around the house. And those brush/beater constantly needing to be cleaned (cat and girlfriend hair) on all of them. My latest roomba with scheduler (790 or something) is admittedly the best I have had, but it's twice the price of this 630 roomba or a xiaomi even when the 790 is on sale at bargain prices. This roomba 630 doesn't have scheduling, but the xiaomi does. If my current roomba dies, it will definitely be xiaomi for me next.

edit: and replacement part prices for roombas are downright gougingly priced for genuine. ebay 'third party' parts are junk and mess with the whole careful balance of engineering in the unit.

        • I'm still on my original Roomba after 5 years or so, although admittedly it's not getting as much use after getting the cordless Dyson.

As long as you keep it plugged in all the time, the battery will last ages - the manual was quite specific about that.

The tech in these roombas is too old now to consider them a good purchase, Xiaomi offers cutting edge technology for LESS. Lidar nav and lithium battery cannot be beaten.

    • +1

agreed. Only down side of xiaomi is lack of local warranty.

    • Not according to this review.

      • You compared to a wrong model.

      • +3

More than double the price for that model. Also when you read that review from top to bottom it still seems the Mi wins. The ‘rough around the edges’ issues don’t exist after the first 15 minutes when you’ve set it up and installed the English pack IMO. Every part of the app for the vacuum is all English too now once setup.

        • Exactly right. 5mins to setup then easy street! App is pretty good!

Cant compare the roomba 630 to the xiaomi. Xiaomi has heaps more features, hence the comparison to the roomba 980. Xiaomi all the way ! However excellent price for the 630 as usually 500ish.

  • +2

I've had the roomba 800 series, the xiaomi one blows it away. Plus I'm not a fan of roomba seemingly random cleanup algorithm/pattern around the room.

  • I am a roomba user myself and its cleaning seems to great so far. I just wish we could have it scheduled twice a day
and the price isn't budget friendly too, compared to the wireless vacuums nowadays.
