Be careful buying flash memory from ebay/dealextreme other china importers. I have purchased memory from those types of sellers and the memory is "fake".
It reports the full ammount on windows, but it has just been soft modded to display that much. Anything over the flash memories real limit will become corrupt.

There are tools to help verify the actual memory value of the flash memory you buy.
This is generally with GENERIC brands.
    Buyers Beware.

    • I too faced same on my 30$ 4gb stick and when I noticed it was about 60 days. Seller was playing delay tactics for a month (that was the time paypal dispute window expires) and stop responded.

    • There are certainly fakes around, I've seen 'up to 2TB' advertised.

I've bought quite a few flash cards etc from DX and never had a fake.
Their return policy would certainly cover this.

I dont believe ebay is a bargain!! I think this is classified as advertising.

I'd rather get a usb drive from here, even though it may cost $1-2 more. http://www.mymemory.co.uk/USB-Flash-Drives?filters=size:1638…

And I’d rather get a usb drive from an Australian store as any warranty problems will be easier to sort out.

      • I'd just rather not to get one from ebay/dx/fp et.al. ;)

Something about buying a USB thumb drive on eBay feels wrong to me. Too many bad stories. I'd stick with the stores. Tempted to neg this but I have no evidence there is anything fishy about it so I'll take my finger off the trigger for now ;)

The seller is out of Brisbane, not Hong Kong.

I've bought fakes from ShoppingSquare but I will bet these are genuine.

Next best price on staticice is $42.10 PLUS POSTAGE so this is a bargain….

    • Did shopping square give you a refund?

    • But was it a fake or just faulty?

the seller can be in Brisbane and drop shipping from Hong Kong.

      • I've bought from this seller before, they shipped from Brisbane by AAE. That wasn't flash memory but since the item location states it's in Brisbane it's safe to assume they're not drop shipping on this either.

  • I have one these in the 8GB version.
I find that the casing can be a fraction too wide when I have another USB port next it that is also being used.

  • I believe this is a good deal and substantially cheaper than the same product bought in a store. However, some functions appear not to be compatible with Windows 7, unless a driver update is applied:
    http://businesstravel.about.com/od/travelgadgets/gr/SanDiskU…

  • Pretty good price for 16 GB, looks ugly with the "Backup" button though =(

  • Speed? User reviews state 20MB/s read (good!) and 3MB/s write (terrible!), ouch!

    • Reviews from laptopmag and everythingusb put the performance at the same level as the Cruzer Extreme Contour - peaking at 25.6MB/s read and 17MB/s write.

  • I also have this usb stick from Sandisk. Mine is 32 GB and I think its quite annoying to use. Everytime I plug-in the USB it runs the U3 program, which is installed on the USB stick. When removing the USB, you always need to eject the usb and the U3 imagedisc.

Sorry but have to Neg there are cheaper 16gb usb sticks on Fleabey so no bargain here…

    • cool, but can you provide a link to one that is cheaper and not from Hong kong ?

      • They are all made in Hong Kong and they are just a flash drive…

        • Order a few of the cheaper ones dude, let us know how that works out for ya! :p

        • -1

sorry should have mentioned all those cheaps ones on ebay from hong kong are 100% fake.

One of the biggest problems with ebay are all those memory sticks and cards.

        • What is wrong with you Boonanza?
          Aussie stock
          Aussie warranty
          Postage Included
          Good brand
The fact that you know its not softmodded

Is this not enough value for $5 or less dollars? Sheesh

    • Can you show me a reputable USB drive that's as fast as this one, that's cheaper?

    • That's not cheaper. This ebay one is AUD$29.95. Your link is US$28.95. Taking into account the conversion rate and surchages, that equates to about AUD$31. And you get no local warranty, no feedback on the seller, no paypal protection, nothing.

      • lol, owned a spammer

Mine arrived today - that was quick shipping! I ordered it on Wednesday. It was shipped by AAE from Brisbane and is a genuine item complete with retail packaging. CrystalDiskMark reports 24.38MB/s read, 14.37MB/s write. A Cruzer Contour 8GB on the same computer returns 25.65MB/s read and 14.25MB/s write. A Cruzer Titanium 8GB on the same computer returns 26.03MB/s read and 9.9MB/s write. A Patriot Xporter XT 8GB returns 28.21MB/s read and 13.6MB/s write.

Seeing as the 16GB Cruzer Contour goes for at least $47 from overseas and the Xporter XT 16GB is about $55 from the US on ebay, this is a bargain. Yes, there are cheaper 16GB USB drives, just like how there's a Kia and a BMW. :)
