Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD $311.20 Delivered @ Futu eBay

1550
PICNIC

Ridiculously fast SSD for systems with PCIe M.2 2280 sockets.

Remains listed at a competitive pre-discount price, apparently overlooked by the price jacker since the 20%-off coupon was posted. Note there's also a duplicate listing at $399, in case this $389 one disappears.

While it's usually debatable whether the Pro is worth it over the EVO, this significantly narrows the price gap, and appears to be the cheapest the 512GB Pro's been by a considerable margin.

Unfortunately, the other models/capacities appear to be listed at inflated prices, though they may still be the cheapest available after the coupon - just less of a 'bargain' than this one.

    • Does anyone know? I bought the above laptop for my sons birtday (it is still in the box), but it only comes with a 128GB SSD. I would prefer to get this 512gb if it's possible, and get somebody to put it in for me.

I think you got negged and nobody replied because you seemed unable (or too lazy to bother) to read through this post and comments, and compare them with the product info given on TechBuy.

In this post, this SSD is said to be: socket M.2, type 2280, using NVMe protocol over four lanes of PCIe 3. On the TechBuy product page, your laptop is said to have one M.2 SSD slot, type 2280, and supports NVMe PCIe 3 x4. Looks like a match to me.

But are you (or the person you hire) game enough to pry open the undercover to get to the M.2 slot? Two different hardware revisions shown here.

        https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-P57W-Notebook-Review.…

Although the P57W does not have a maintenance hatch, buyers can upgrade components and clean the cooling system. Once you loosened 16(!) screws the underside can be easily removed. You can get to the two fans and also to the Wi-Fi module, the storage devices (1x M.2 PCIe + 1x 2.5 inch), two DDR4 RAM slots and the screwed battery. As so often, graphics card and processor are soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced.

And then there is the question of BIOS support. Some notebook manufacturers lock their BIOS to particular hardware signatures, so I cannot say that your notebook will boot after an SSD swap. Two of mine didn't after I upgraded their Wi-Fi modules.

  • I am running a H170M-PRO4. I believe this ssd is compatible with my board. My two questions are:

How many total lanes do I have with this board (as I don't want to deplete my gpu lanes)?
Will it fit under a gtx 960 and/or 1070 as it is pretty close to my pcie slot?
I currently have a scandisk ultra II 120gb, should I use this solely for my os and put games and media on s2 or just use s2 for os, games and media?

All advice is greatly appreciated as I just purchased this and am wondering if it will suit my needs. Hardcore gamer, web dev and video enthusiast.

    • H170 only has 16 PCIE3.0 lanes, so this will eat up 4 lanes and your GPU will run at 8X.

Wont make any difference on a GTX960/1070.

      • I believe he has the H170M-PRO4: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H170M%20Pro4/?cat=Specificati…

        From what I can tell on specs page, he has: - 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 Slots (PCIE1: x16 mode; PCIE4: x4 mode)
So he should be able to get 16x and use the 4x without loss. Correct me if i'm wrong?
Not sure how it will affect him with gpu + ultra + m2

        • PCIE4 is probably connected to the PCH and not off the CPU. Either way It wont take any performance hit.

  • Anyone recommend a sata to m2 adaptor? I've got a Dell 7567,bought via ozbargain, it came with a 256gb m2 card already, I'm thinking if swapping it fit this and putting the old card I the 2.5 sata bay. My current 2tb Seagate drive I've got in there did horrific things to the boot times, and it made me sad to have to use it as an external again.

Depends on if your existing M.2 drive is running SATA or NVME protocol. If NVME I don't think adapters exist.

      • Cheers, I'll look into that. All my video editing is fhd, so I really doubt I need this drive any time soon. There was a 1tb on here for similar money, but supposed to be slow… I might get that as it supports sata, and leave it as storage.

I had waited it for last 10 month. Finally, I have seen good price deal. I have purchased yesterday 1pm. Seller haven't posted it to me yet. Seller, can you please post it asap? I can't wait for this beast ssd. Thanks.

    • I too purchased about the same time with no postage notification. Don't worry too much about it. You might get a pleasant surprise and it arrives before a notification. I've had that happen before. It was Kogan I think and it was because of drop-shipping. Not sure if futu do this.

  • Mine's apparently been shipped, for anyone wondering whether anyone has received sent notifications. Got the notification from eBay 1 hour ago.

Now I just need to find a motherboard, CPU, RAM, case etc to go with it! Current 20% deal seems to have the best RAM prices.

  • Looks like a pretty good price, I saw an EVO going for around the same in a post last week. Shame I don't need it now, but good find!

I remember paying almost this much for an Intel 730 ~3 years ago, it was even on sale… how things change.

  • Does anyone know if I can replace my 16GB SSD M2 in my Lenovo Yoga 460 with this?

I dont really know what PCIe M.2 2280 sockets. means sorry

    **Found this online:
Looking at the PSREF spec it appears to be a slot for a cache drive. Those are typically 2242.

The drawing in the HMM also looks like a 2242 slot.**

    So probably wouldnt fit
