  • Not bad…though with Samsung 1.5T @ $79 its $/GB ratio isn't as good (2x the price for 3 x the storage!)

  • Maybe if this was a 2.5" drive it would be a bargain.. but I've seen 1TB drives for $50 so this isn't so great tbh, it's a green eco drive too. :(

    • If you could show me where I would appreciate it. I need a cheap drive to use as my Windows/Programs drive and as much as I like these eco drives I don't think they're suitable for that purpose.

      • Me three , these drives are great for me so far , the 1tb that is :)

  • On the positive side, this drive is apparently only a single platter, so it will have better power usage.

Also, it's spindle speed will be somewhere between 5.4k and 6k… WD don't mention specifics for their "Green" drives unfortunately.

  • What about the Vertex 2 60 GB SSD for $159, is that good?

    • Yeah that's a great price for a 60gb SSD. Vertex 2 uses the sandforce controller which is good.

As I stated, these drives are for people that want some extra storage but don't need TB's of it.

1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 from Computer Alliance is better deal imo

  • +1

netplus was having 1tb caviers for $49 a while back, BudgetPc has 2tb green caviars for $109 + shipping http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32833 this doesn't really seem attractive anymore, they will get cheaper just need to wait.

  • How much is shipping to NSW? Computer Alliance want $15…too much

    • They charge 11$ for EXPRESS post to my house, and I'm in Western Sydney. Great price.

  • I'm a computer tech. Most people are lucking to have a few hundred Gb on their computers. 500Gb is plenty for all but media use (video downloaders or HTPC).
