  • Great price for Qantas - I fly between SYD and MEL all the time
but that's so far in advance to know the dates :(

  • +1

    Still way over-priced.

    • Compare to JetStar and Virgin, maybe…. certainly not for Qantas :P

    • +1

That is "almost" the same price as Virgin, JetStar once you factor in the extras.

  • An off topic question, last time I flew internationally, my child of 4 yrs cost $80 (cheap! but he didn't get a seat).
But for local flights, it seems that any child over 2 yrs old is charge full fees. Is that right?
Any airlines give discounts for children under 5 yrs?

Way overpriced tickets … it's like when during a sale eBay retailers jack up the prices. Bit like same here. Even after apparent discount, cheaper tickets can be had elsewhere.

    Try here: https://booking.tigerair.com.au/TigerAirIBE/Booking/Select
    checked between 14 & 21 Feb.
Tiger: Fares available from $59 one way
Jetstar: Fres from $70 one way

Can the person who negged my comment above please share their rationale ?
Or you want to stay hidden ?

      • -1

Awww someone negged you and you're having a cry. What a pathetic human being you must be.

    • +5

lol i didnt neg you but just wanted to say thats pretty silly to be comparing a low cost flight service with a premium flight service… They target different segments of the industry =_=
If an Iphone 7 gets a discount and becomes $400 would you neg it just coz a xiaomi phone is $300?

      • -1

Premium as in .. they serve in-flight food ?
You can still purchase that with Jetstar/Tiger/Virgin and still be ahead on price !

Your point is valid too, but you keep the phone for a year or two atleast !

Which Ozbargainer would spend $100+ on a 1-hour flight when you can get same for almost half-price?

        • +2

No… Jetstar is owned by Qantas… they target different customer segments…
Jetstar for people on a budget
Qantas for people who want better service, people who want a premium quality for the amount they paid…
It would be pretty silly for a company to compete with themselves, hence why they target different customer segments in order to capture a higher proportion of the industry…
Jetstar/Tiger/Virgin are all competing for the same customer segment which is the people on a budget and want the lowest prices

The thing here is that everyone has their needs, and as for the people who always would rather pay for a premium service, this is a great deal.
I only fly Qantas domestically now, I've used Jetstar once, even if it was a 2-3hr trip, I did not enjoy the experience.

Just saying if it doesnt suit your needs, doesnt mean its a bad deal lol
Maybe that person who neg you felt that way, who knows.

You must compare like for like.

As someone who travels this route 30-40 times a year, I can often justify the cost difference for Virgin/Qantas service compared to Jetstar/Tiger. Jetstar in particular had a terrible habit of canceling flights at late notice and then failing to provide appropriate customer service when rescheduling me (leaving me on hold for 30+ minutes, suggesting flights in which I had 10 minutes to get to the airport, or a flight more than 12 hours later). Virgin and Qantas have always assisted with delays and cancellations well - whether it being their fault or storm related. If I need a flight to be relied upon, I would never fly Jetstar.

It is a premium service with a high price tag, but this is a good deal for someone who does place a value on the differences.

    • Not being argumentative. A “bargain” is achieved when you’re comparing apples to apples.

Comparing Tiger to Qantas is ludicrous. Less frequent flights, everything else extra (luggage/food), T4, no Qantas frequent flyer/Status points. The list goes on.
