990
PARTY18

Original 18% off Sitewide on eBay Deal Post

After hearing about the 18% off eBay sale today we thought we'd reduce our eBay prices for the rest of today. The final price of the items below will never be seen again (unless eBay does a coupon code like this in the future). Prices below can be accessed with PARTY18 code between 6pm-10pm AEST.

The best deal is the A44 - it's $20 cheaper than our usual price both online and on our website. The other two products are a bit cheaper on our website usually.

  • Voll A44 Amplified / Active Computer / Bookshelf speakers $122.96 shipped. (149.95 pre discount code which is $20 cheaper than our usual price both on eBay and on our website)
  • Voll B44 Passive Bookshelf Speakers $90.16 shipped (109.95 pre discount code which is $10 cheaper than our website and $20 cheaper than our usual eBay price)
  • Voll S6 6.5" Active Subwoofer $98.36 shipped (119.95 pre discount code which is the same price as our website and $10 cheaper than our usual eBay price)

We also have a whole bunch of SMSL/Topping amps in our store which aren't on sale but will still be great prices with the PARTY18 - some will certainly be cheaper than anywhere else on eBay/elsewhere but some may be cheaper from other sellers.

If you haven't heard of us before check out some of the previous OzBargain deals or the whirlpool forums for reviews and discussion.

Edit: For anyone who buys one of our amps and a pair of B44s in the same order on eBay today we'll chuck in a pair of 2m speaker cables for free.

  • Hey chief,

I've been planning to buy the B44 + VX3 Bundle, would I be better off buying it on eBay with the sale or should I just buy it on the website?

Do I have to get the speaker cables if I buy it on eBay? or will it be included?

    Thanks!

    • +2

For anyone who buys one of our amps and a pair of B44s in the same order we'll chuck in a pair of 2m speaker cables for free.

      • Hey so i just got home and tried to go to checkout but it said that the listing for the speakers has ended. Am I too late to get one chief?

  • +2

Can you do a Voll A44 + S6 bundle? If you could even match the price on your website, it'd still work out cheaper than buying individually.

    • Unfortunately due to the lack of a shipping calculator on eBay we can't offer bundles.

  • Anyone know how does this compare to Audioengine 2+ in term of sound?

    • +1

I have owned both, though not at the same time, so not exactly a back to back comparison. I remember them being very similar in many ways, both of them put out amazing sound especially for their size. The 2+ had a little less bass but was better through the midrange. Overall the Volls are much better value, not enough difference to justify the price of the AEs.

      • Thanks for the info, looks like the white colour is not going to justify for the price.

  • which amp if I wanted to setup a 2.1 setup for B44/S6?
    Source would be tv/chromecast etc

    • Any reason why you wouldn't be going with an A44/S6 setup instead? That way you wouldn't need an amp.

      • hoping for more than a single 3.5mm input

    • I would recommend the SMSL Q5 Pro as it has a subwoofer output.

Another very good option would be the new Topping MX3 - which also has a sub output, we don't have any stock yet though so to get the 18% off you'd need to buy it from another eBayer.

Any amps without a subwoofer output will need our subwoofer connection kit.

      • +1

Any idea what you'll be selling the MX3 for? As it doesn't look there are any Australian suppliers yet..

        • +1

We haven't finalised a price but it will probably be 169.95 shipped.

        • @chiefbodge: that seems very good of you. It’s a shame you can’t stick it up on eBay for tonight’s discount, as even with you not getting stock for a week it would still almost certainly be faster than waiting on free shipping from Hong Kong!

        • @Arsenal:

If we have time we'll try and put something up. It may be a little bit higher than $169.95 due to eBay fees though, we'll see what we can do.

We can guarantee next week though - it should be coming in then but it might take until the week after.

        • @chiefbodge: oh sure, i'm pretty sure the ebay estimate for shipping from Hong Kong was mid to late October.

        • @chiefbodge:
Seems you've sold out of your pre-order MX3's.
Will you be adding more before 10PM?

        • @chiefbodge:

Thanks mate, lucky i checked back, 3/5 had already sold!

  • -2

Hey mate can you please give me some suggestions.

We have a townhome with a smaller living room. Want a good home theater system to go with our new LG 55 inch OLED.

I dont want to get just a sound bar. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos. Any suggestions for what amps and speakers I need to get?

    Cheers!

    • These ones…

    • +3

I don't think the downvotes were necessary but I'd say it's because your question is very open-ended. It doesn't matter how big or small your room is, a 'good' Home Theatre could mean anything from using five of these Volls through to spending $500,000+ so there's your first problem. It's all very subjective and up to the individual so it's very difficult to recommend anything specific sorry. Maybe throw in a bit more detail and someone might be able to help better. A rough budget perhaps? An insight to your expectations for both Movie & Stereo sound would also be handy to know.

      • Sorry about that. I wanted to start off with a decent receiver and speaker system and then upgrade later. Overall budget is between $1500-$2000. I think I have zeroed in on my receiver but need to know if these Volls will suit my needs for a decent sound. I will then pair with a sub.

        • +1

One of my neighbours just did exactly this… bought a 5-pack of Volls and used a decent little Boston Acoustics Sub he already had from another system. Connected it all up to a new slimline Pioneer Receiver and boom, it blew our minds without blowing the budget or filling the room with large boxes. Works equally as well for Movies as it does for 2-ch (& 2.1) Music which is a bonus. He's so impressed he's now thinking about replacing a Bose Lifestyle system with Volls and a nice little receiver in another area of the house… for about a third the price the Bose system originally cost him and with far better sound quality!

        • @SteveAndBelle: Thanks I appreciate it mate. I think I will stick to that advice. :)

Should be a decent start to my HT adventures.

          Any sub recommendations?

        • +1

@axlcalvin: I used to have a very rough & unofficial rule that a Sub should have around twice the cone size of the main speakers. There are many exceptions especially nowadays with some incredibly small Subs performing better than larger ones but it's still a good place to start. Luckily that isn't too difficult with the Volls as that means a 8" or 10" Sub should be fine. A 12" would also be fine but a 15" or higher would be overkill and would sound a bit disjointed.

The thing with HT is that a Sub is really just a 'rumble' factory anyway so to a certain degree 'anything' will do. Of course there are loads of exceptions to that too but overall an HT Sub is far easier to research & buy than a Sub specifically for music. Purists will always argue that Subs shouldn't ever be part of a 'music' system and I can see their point but I still believe in the 'if it sounds good then great' theory. I'd recommend you start looking around for an affordable 10-12" Sub you like the look of with decent reviews and just grab one.

Something inexpensive like this will keep you happy for a while and is part of the 20% off sale too: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pioneer-S-MS3SW-12inch-200W-RMS-A… Just a simple paper cone Woofer in a box with a couple of ports and an Amp. No frills but like the Volls it's possibly all you'll need. Have a look around though as there are a few others to choose from too including some 10".

    • +3

If you're on a budget then you could buy 3 pairs of Volls. (Or buy 2 pairs on ebay and buy a single speaker off us seperately - just email us). Front L/R, Back L/R and a single B44 lying sideways as a centre speaker.

Buy a cheap AV receiver like this - or Kogan usually have one for about $380 although it looks out of stock at the moment.

Then buy a cheap 8" or 10" sub and you'd be set - although you would have to figure out a way to mount the speakers and you'd need speaker cable and what not.

You could of course get cheaper by buying a cheap logitech 5.1 system that would have everything you need and bit a bit simpler to setup but the quality will be much worse.

  • I have the Aktimate Mini B+, are the Voll S6 Sub compatable with my speakers?

    • Unfortunately it seems your speakers don't have a subwoofer output. Without a subwoofer output active speakers can't really be connected to a sub unless you use the analog 3.5mm input and a Y cable to go to the sub and control the volume exclusively from your computer.

      • I'm just confused. On the site it says
        1 Pair RCA sockets (unfiltered)
        1 Subwoofer Out (up to 187 Hz @ -3dB)

But then there is something about the connection kit a subwoofer connection kit

        • +1

Very sorry - yours do have sub out, I was looking at the specs of a different Aktimate product.

I can't find specs about the frequency response of your Akimates but if they have 6" drivers then the S6 may not deliver huge improvements.

You might be better off with an 8" or 10" sub in this case.

        • @chiefbodge: Ahhh thank you for the feedback! I will definitely keep that in mind

  • I recognise the input connectors of A44, but what does B44 use? They look different.

    • +1

The Voll B44 are passive speakers (which means they are unpowered and require an amplifier to run). They use 5 way binding posts that connect via bare wire speaker cable or banana plugs to a Speaker Amplifier or AV Receiver.

    • +2

The B44s just use bog standard 5-Way Speakers Terminals allowing you to screw-down onto bare wires or use Banana Plugs. These are the same type found on most Hifi speakers.

EDIT: CB beat me to it!

  • Anyone know how the A44 is compared to dayton D52? Planning to connect to laptop

  • If I were to get a B44, S6 and a Q5 Pro, what wiring would I need to set it all up?

    • As we are now including speaker cables free of charge if order amp+b44 are ordered at the same time you wont need anything additional to connect the B44 + S6 + Q5 together.

The Q5 Pro comes with a USB cable to plugin to your computer but if you wanted to connect to any of the other inputs you'd need the relevant cable (coaxial, optical, 3.5mm)

      • Just another question, based on my setup, should I connect it in series or parallel?

  • I vouch for these speakers as I had them on pre order..!

Great bang for buck speakers. I paired them with a DAC and AMP from SMSL to play audio from my PC.

For those who are crazy about price to performance I don't think you'll be let down!

  • +3

Finally created an OzBargain account even though I'm usually a lurker just to commend the products and experience Voll provides.

Currently have the Voll B44 V1 as well as the SMSL A2 amp purchased from Voll a while back. These speakers are essentially Australian market Micca MB42X's, if I remember correctly, and overseas these have the reputation of being one of the most popular, and arguably, best sets of entry level speakers at the price.

Customer service is great with these guys too, if you've got any questions about how/where you want these set up they'll be sure to help you out by providing tips, suggestions, and even referring products to you. These guys know their stuff and care about good audio.

Replace your tv soundbar, stop using generic consumer brand Bluetooth speakers to listen to your tunes, and instead get a set of these, you'll love them.

  • I have a Yamaha HTR-6065 receiver and have been looking for a sub for a while. Only a small loungeroom. Would the S6 suffice or would I be better off paying a bit more and getting an 8" or 10" sub? Thanks for advice.

    • It really depends on your requirements / expectations. For home theatre I would probably recommend a 10" sub or larger, that said the cheap no name 10"/12" subs that I've heard don't really add any more than our S6 does and sound much worse doing it, a proper name brand 10" / 12" sub will be miles ahead of our S6 though for home theatre, but of course the price will reflect that.

What kind of speakers do you have as your fronts? If they have 6" or 8" woofers I'm not sure adding the S6 would be worth it. If they are smaller bookshelfs / satellites I say give it a go and see if you like it, if you don't you can return it to us for a full refund (ebay covers shipping costs).

      • Thanks for the reply. I currently have an old pair of Sony 3-way speakers (SS-H2750E) as front L and R (6‎Ω) and a Q Acoustics 2000C as the centre speaker. How about B44s for the rear L + R?

  • Hey guys was going to buy the A44 and S6 but now im looking at getting the B44+S6+Amp.

Can anybody recommend an amp? Im not sure of the differences other than price of course.

What I'm looking for is something that can replace my old sony mini hifi system speakers i have been using as my computer/music listening speakers but also be able to switch over and listen to records on my turntable (connected to preamp).

    • ok in my 15min of research the b44 are 75w per speaker most of the amps are 25watt to 35watt would this mean you are not getting the full power out of the speakers? the Topping PA3 has 80w per channel.

      • +3

There's a massive discussion behind Amp & Speaker power but yes, you're kind-of correct… BUT you also need to understand most home listening happens under the 5-10W mark and if you've heard what pure 5W sounds like through high efficiency speakers then you'll know what I'm talking about. Room filling!! A 25-35W Amp will sound great with the B44s however a more powerful Amp is always recommended (but definitely not essential) because a higher power Amp wont 'clip' as easily therefore keeping the speakers happy. Clipping is dangerous territory for speakers and basically presents itself as 'DC' meaning the speakers end up either staying in or out most of the time instead of moving and that creates heat which leads to burnt voice coils.

In an ideal 'fantasy' world where everyone has loads of cash and plenty of room to run large Amplifiers you'd probably want an Amp capable of 100-200W to run the B44s to give you that extra headroom. I've run them with 500W RMS Monoblock Perreaux Power Amps (basically lab-spec Amplifiers) but of course I didn't crank them too high as that would simply overload them. Most poor sound and speaker damage is due to Clipping though so best not to get into that territory. As soon as you hear distortion in any system be sure to kill the volume ASAP!

Sorry if that confuses you further but I recommend you buy an Amp as genuinely powerful as you can afford or justify but keep in mind those lower power Amps will still do the trick too… just be sure to listen out for distortion whenever you run them at higher levels and you'll be fine!

        • Thanks for hte reply reading through the above posts looks like the SMSL Q5 pro might be the one as it has 50w per channel.

        • +1

Actually went to buy and saw they had set the MX3 for preorder so snapped that up instead.

  • Hi,

I can't figure this out, it's way over my head! What do I need to get the B44 working with my TV? The TV manual is: https://assets.kogan.com/files/usermanuals/KALED55SMTZA-A.pd…

If anyone can help that'll be awesome, thanks!

    • Hi timting. If you have an amplifier/receiver then you will connect the speakers to the amp and the the amp to your TV, either HDMI or red and white RCA cable.

If you don't have an amplifier/receiver then you're perhaps best to look at the A44 speakers, as they have a built in amp. In which case the lead supplied by Voll goes from the speaker to the R and L in the manual you linked. Once again Red and White into Right and Left.

      Does this help?

  • Whoop first one in. bought the A44s and the S6 Sub. Will try it out and may take you up on your offer of returning it otherwise. Cheers

  • +1

For anyone who needs the subwoofer connection kit you can find it here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/-/322766512178?

I won't be at the computer for the next 2 hours or so but should be back by then to answer any questions anyone may have.

    • +1

ah what do i need this? I bought the A44 and the S6. i thought i was set

      • No - sorry for the confusion.

Any amplifier or active speakers that have a subwoofer output can connect directly to our S6 sub. The A44 does - you don't need anything extra.

The subwoofer connection kit is ONLY needed for those that have an amplifier that does not have a subwoofer output.

  • Has anyone else got it to work yet? It's telling me "This code can't be applied to your order."

    • Yea mate worked for me right on the dot.

    • +1

      Worked for me:

      Items (2) AU $269.90
      Postage Free
      Vouchers -AU $48.58
      Order total AU $221.32

  • Just letting everyone know that we are getting close to hitting our eBay listing and selling limit - if something does go out of stock it's worth trying again later as we may be able to rebalance later on from other products. We should probably have applied for higher limits in the past!

  • Sweet just preordered the mx3 and bought myself the B44s. Over $50 in savings. Ty very much.

  • I got the B44 with the Topping VX1 anp. Can someone tell me if I made a good choice with this combination?

I was stuck between the VX3 and the VX1 but decided to go with the latter but read it's not as loud.

    • The VX3 is a more powerful amp with a newer chip - I would recommend it over the VX1 in most cases (the VX1 does have an integrated USB DAC which is handy and does have a button to switch between headphones / speakers, where as the VX3 you have to physically unplug the headphones to activate the speakers). If you contact us via ebay we'd be happy to refund the difference and send the VX3 if you'd prefer.

      • Message sent. Your customer service is top notch.

  • I literally ordered a A44 + SMSL AD18 bundle on Tuesday, regret not waiting for this sale now.

  • Got a pair! Thanks op. I was going to buy some open back headphones but these were too hard to pass up. Cheers!

  • Hey @chiefbodge i just bought the B44+S6+MX3 combo am i able to get the whole lot delivered together? Shipping says MX3 delivery wont be til mid october. Happy to wait to receive it all at once.

    • +1

No worries - that's just very conservative. I'm pretty confident we'll have MX3 stock next week.

The MX3 is now completely sold out so if anyone else can't find it that's why. If anyone else really wants it I may be able to re-add it but it will be a much longer wait time (more like 2 weeks instead of next week).

      • +3

Other options (International orders) will probably not be any quicker to arrive.
If you re-added you MX3's I think you'd sell a few more with people understanding the delayed delivery as an expected consequence.

  • How does A44 compare to JBL 305?

  • thanks! just bought the A44 and S6! cant wait

  • Sorry if a dumb question but doors each a44 need to be connected to power?

    • Only the left speaker is connected to power - the A44 comes with a speaker cable to connect the Right (passive speaker) to the Left speaker.

      • So how does that work I you have 5 A’s part of a 5.1 system? Or is that what the B’s are for?

        • The A44s are only for 2.0 or 2.1 audio (with our s6 sub).

For a home theatre system you'd need to get 2 pairs of B44s + a single b44 (we sell these if you contact us) and you'd also need an AVR (audio video receiver), we don't sell those but there's some cheap Pioneer models available for around $400.

  • @chiefbodge, can a SMSL A18 handle a pair of B44's + a subwoofer? Considering picking up a S6 sub tonight.

    • +1

The AD18 doesn't have a subwoofer output so for it to work with the S6 you will need to buy our subwoofer connection kit.

The Topping MX3 is a good alternative with very similar features + subwoofer output but we are out of stock right now unfortunately although I can add the MX3 listing again but your order will take 2-3 weeks to ship while we wait on more MX3 stock.

  • +1

Two more MX3s have been added http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/-/322766821879

These units will not ship for 2-3 weeks while we wait on stock. The previous MX3s ordered tonight will ship within 1 week or so as we have an order due in next week.

  • @chiefbodge am thinking of getting s6 + b44 but a little torn on which sub to get. Which would you recommend between q5, ad18 and mx3? appreciate the great deals and customer service mate

    • +1

The MX3 has pretty much anything you'd ever want from a mini amp so it's probably safest to get that.

I wouldn't recommend the AD18 unless you need the extra power as to work with our S6 sub you'd need to purchase our subwoofer connection kit as the AD18 doesn't have subwoofer output.

      • +1

Sweet as. thanks for that! Just made my order for the b44+s6+mx3. Would you be able to send them as a lot when the MX3 is available @chiefbodge please?

        • +1

          Yes!

        • @chiefbodge: thanks for everything Jay. Have everything set up and they sound much better than my m10. The missus approves of it too so no reason to return it within 30 days. Amazing set of speakers

  • Oh thanks for posting this deal chiefbodge. Been planning to get an entry level audio technica turntable with a sets of speakers. Then I discovered these raved about speakers last week but was hoping to wait til they were on sale. What great timing!!

Edit: Upon eagerly typing this out and clicking on to the B44, someone nicked the last one!

  • Bugger, just went to add to cart and looks like all gone. Will you be adding more?

    Edit: B44's

  • B44 Out of Stock :(
Was too slow with them in my cart while reading all the posts.

  • Relisted: got 1 pair - 3 available:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322766839628

  • Sorry guys we have just about completely reached our ebay account limit and are now juggling stock around as best we can:

    Relisted these two for now:

    B44: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Voll-B44-Bookshelf-Speakers-75-wa…
    A44: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/-/322766871055

  • Hi, my current setup is B44 + SMSL SA-60. I want to get the S6 subwoofer. Any chance of putting the connection kit on ebay too?

    • +2

Unfortunately we had to take the connection kit down as we were close to our sending limits.

We only have one S6 sub left and 5 A44s - once those are gone we wont be able to list any more items as we will have completely maxed out our listing limits.

  • Dang, missing out on the MX3 :(

    Edit:

    Missed out on everything :'(

  • +3

Sorry to everyone who missed out - we'd love to be able to sell them to you, unfortunately we did not see this coming and eBay takes ages to approve a selling limit increase.

Everything is gone now bar 1 A44.

When we sell this many speakers in one night we're sure to get some customer change of mind returns in 2-3 weeks. I'll try to keep this thread update when we add these to our website, we tend to have pretty good pricing so it's worth keeping an eye out if you did miss out.

    edit: all gone now :(

    • +1

Another successful session eh CB?! Another gaggle of happy Voll owners, nice. All you need to do now is get those larger Subs sorted out and start flogging them off for HT buyers :)

      • +3

I can say the guys at the warehouse tomorrow are really going to hate me that's for sure, I suspect our courier will be pretty shocked too…

  • wow..missed out on the S6..
I preordered the B44 and they were great.. was there ever a S6 preorder special?

    • +2

There was - but to anyone who missed it who is an existing customer we'd be happy to give a $10 off voucher to if you email us with your existing order number. (doesn't stack with ozbargain $5 off)

      • cool.. just reply to contact@voll from my order email?
