Original 18% off Sitewide on eBay Deal Post

After hearing about the 18% off eBay sale today we thought we'd reduce our eBay prices for the rest of today. The final price of the items below will never be seen again (unless eBay does a coupon code like this in the future). Prices below can be accessed with PARTY18 code between 6pm-10pm AEST.

The best deal is the A44 - it's $20 cheaper than our usual price both online and on our website. The other two products are a bit cheaper on our website usually.

  • Voll A44 Amplified / Active Computer / Bookshelf speakers $122.96 shipped. (149.95 pre discount code which is $20 cheaper than our usual price both on eBay and on our website)
  • Voll B44 Passive Bookshelf Speakers $90.16 shipped (109.95 pre discount code which is $10 cheaper than our website and $20 cheaper than our usual eBay price)
  • Voll S6 6.5" Active Subwoofer $98.36 shipped (119.95 pre discount code which is the same price as our website and $10 cheaper than our usual eBay price)

We also have a whole bunch of SMSL/Topping amps in our store which aren't on sale but will still be great prices with the PARTY18 - some will certainly be cheaper than anywhere else on eBay/elsewhere but some may be cheaper from other sellers.

If you haven't heard of us before check out some of the previous OzBargain deals or the whirlpool forums for reviews and discussion.

Edit: For anyone who buys one of our amps and a pair of B44s in the same order on eBay today we'll chuck in a pair of 2m speaker cables for free.

  • Well done on the sale, didn't think you'd sell out and missed out because I was waiting on a relisting/reply in regard to the MX3 before 10pm.

  • Just a question on the A44 speakers for the future. Are they shielded? I want to use them as a reference monitor with my DAW / computer.

    • Sorry they aren't magnetically shielded

      • Thanks for the response! I'll keep an eye out for a shielded version in the future, perhaps :-)

  • Hey rep, you must have missed my last comment asking, but do I hook B44s with the Q5 Pro in series or parallel?

    • +1

One speaker is connected to the LEFT speaker output of the Q5 and one speaker is connected to the RIGHT speaker output of the Q5 with speaker cables.

It will look something like this: http://www.richardfarrar.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/spea…

      • Thanks for that. That's what I thought initially before stumbling upon this article which stated that speakers less than 8 ohms should be connected in series to increase the impedance otherwise it'd be too low for the amp. The amp says its impedance range is 4-8 ohms, but wouldn't connecting the 2 speakers in parallel result in an impedance of 2 ohms, whereas series would be 8 ohms which is within the range? I know very little about this, so just wondering. I'm assuming everyone connects it in parallel anyway, so it should be ok.

        • +1

that article is talking about connecting 4 speakers to a 2 channel amplifier. Are you looking to connect 4 speakers? If so yes you need to connect 2 in a series for each channel as the minimum impedance of the Q5 is 4 ohms.

If you are just connecting a single pair of voll b44's to a Q5 then it's just one for each channel - there's no series/parallel wiring. The user manual that comes with our Voll B44 has instructions on how to wire up to the amplifiers that we sell, but if you require any further help once you get your order please let me know.

        • @chiefbodge: Ahhh my bad, thanks for that. Thought it was just as simple as that.

  • My A44 arrived today and after setting them up, I noticed an audible hiss and high-pitched pulsing whine (similar to a small spinning fan) when sitting ~60cm away. When no sound signal is being played I could hear the background hiss/whine and I would have to flick the rear switch to turn it off, until I need to listen to something again.
Was wondering if anyone else experienced a similar problem with their A44, or know how to fix it.

      Hi quitram,

This is certainly not normal behaviour for the A44 - it should be completely quiet at idle (unless you have your head right next to the woofer, you might here a very slight hiss). It sounds like you have a ground loop issue somewhere, a good way to test if this is to take the cables out of the back of the A44 and see if it whines with the cable out. If it does then it's a faulty A44, if it doesn't then it's either the included cable is faulty cable or something down the line causing it.

Did you have speakers previously and if so did they have a similar whine? Also what do you have them plugged into?

Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or reply to this thread for more support, if we can't get anywhere with the troubleshooting we'd be happy to take them back for testing and send a replacement or you can get a refund at any time if you prefer.

      Regards,

      Jay

      • Hi Jay, thanks for the reply.
My previous setup was the Swan M10 + Z623 (mainly for the subwoofer). Right now I have the A44 + Z623 connected to my Fiio E10k using a splitter.
Both the M10 and Z623 do exhibit hiss but to a lesser extent. However, the high-pitched spinning fan whine/electrical ringing sound (I don't have the words to describe it) is new to me and is only noticeable in the A44. It even happens with only the power AC adapter plugged in and everything else unplugged; input cable & right speaker unplugged.
I will spend more time with the speakers tomorrow to see if the whine and hiss still bothers me.
And on a side note, the speakers sound amazing; punchier midbass and slightly less hiss in the vocals compared to the M10. Might probably go with a B44 + amp combo if I decide to return it.

  • Hey chief,
Noticed that the speakers and amps are back in the eBay store. Any chance you can give me a code for them? Wanted to get the B44 + MX3 last time but you guys ran out of stock.

    • Unfortunately as the cost of this promotion was partially borne by eBay we can't repeat this deal.

  • I finally got my A44 speakers after a stuff-up by the courier company caused my parcel to be delivered to the wrong suburb — Jay was very helpful and the courier got the parcel back and into the right hands. The speakers are excellent and I will definitely be buying more Voll gear in future.

My only minor nitpick is that the power supply cable is a little on the short side (only ~1.5m long, or maybe a little less). Does anyone know if a generic power supply with a longer cable is OK to use as a replacement?

    • +1

Very sorry that the courier stuffed up so badly - glad to hear that they didn't lose it in the end.

Thanks for the feedback regarding power cable length - it's definitely something that we'll address in future revisions.

Probably the cheapest option to get a longer cable is buying a 1m DC extension cable such as this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-Power-Connector-Male-5-5mm-x-2…

As long as the wire thickness is 22awg or under and it's a 5.5mmx2.1mm DC female/male extension then it would work.

      • No worries and cheers Jay, I'll look into getting a DC extension cable.

If anyone who missed out is interested we have made some refurbs available in our store, currently we have:

3x pairs of Voll B44 V2 $99.95 shipped (save $20) - these were sent incorrectly to customers who wanted A44s, the box has been opened and they are otherwise as new.

1x SMSL SA-36A Pro Amplfier $69.95 shipped (save $20) - customer used briefly and decided to return.

If any amps are bought at the same time as the B44s we'll include free speaker cables.
