    • Wow you have a good deal here 👍🏼

    • I also signed up for that deal on Friday.
Then I saw this deal come up on Friday night so I went and cancelled the optus deal quick fast Saturday morning and now I have my new telstra sim active by midday Saturday.

  • Has anyone swapped from Telstra to another provider, then swapped back for this deal? I just want to confirm it's do-able before I swap over to Optus. I don't see why it wouldn't be a problem, however I don't want to risk the rejection.

    • You will be fine, I am with a different provider on a monthly basis.

    • I did! I ported my Boost prepaid to an optus sim, went to JB 20mins later and it worked :)

  • I have been with Vodafone for many years and actually find them really good. Have been waiting for a year for the new iPhone to come out and go back on a 24 month contract with them. The new iPhone is far more expensive than I thought it would be so have decided to keep my phone and go on a sim only plan. This looks like a great deal but I sort of feel loyal to Vodafone as I have no issues with their network. Is the Telstra network worth the switch (for the moment forgetting about the $200 gift card)?will I notice any difference at all?

  • Awesome deal. I have 2 months left in my Vodafone contract. About to go rural for 5 weeks and Vodafail doesn’t cover there. Also would be handy for the afl streaming for me!
Wonder if I can convince Telstra to entice me further with helping me getting out of a current contract…

    Thanks OP!

  • Any international minutes included?

    • not included

      • What about international texts?

  • But…Boost is an MVNO, it isn't Telstra! Why doesn't it count as porting? :(

    • @Simoneister I ported my Boost prepaid to a $2 optus sim from the servo. Went to JB 20mins later and it worked :) Optus stop porting numbers on weekends after 6pm Saturday so jump on it now

  • Anyone know if I can sign up today and delay the effective date of the port for 3 weeks to align with the billing cycle of my current plan?

    • +5

I've found the answer to my question, in case anyone is interested:

      1. Can I nominate the date and time at which my service is ported?

Yes, you can and it may be helpful to choose that date and approximate time carefully.

If you are moving from a pre-paid service, you may want to use up your credits before you move. If you receive a lot of calls, you may want to time the port to be activated at a non-busy time; note that porting is only available during business hours. If you have to wait for the new SIM card/mobile phone to arrive by post, you may want to postpone the activation of the new service until it has arrived.

You can nominate a date for porting up to thirty days in advance.

  • Is the voucher good for two years or one?

    • +2

2 years according to my gift card

  • +1

I went in this morning and signed up. THE $10 discount and 5gb data bonus is applied until RECONTRACT, so it's not limited to the first 12 months. :)

  • Do you have to actually buy a phone from them?

  • +1

Come on Telstra, this is a great deal except no international minutes. Optus offers a big number of international minutes in their plan, 700mins or so while Vodafone gives unto 400mins. Time to take the challenge and just one more step, you get many more customers, Telstra.

  • +2

Just signed up at Kedron, they were aware of the deal, i'm pretty sure its for this weekend only. They did say $100 voucher at first but I corrected them :)

  • Just signed up at Jamisontown near Penrith. Staff are aware of the deal, flyers are posted all around the mobile section. Girls there were helpful and polite - no issues receiving the $200 gift card.

Sim ported over in less than 5 minutes.

Hey guys. I went into jb kawana Waters (sunny coast) today and they did it no problem. Gift card and all.

  • Just wondering if anyone has tried porting out from Telstra to get in on this deal?

  • Just signed me and the wife up. Walked out with $400 gift card in 10 min. Phone ported over instantly on a Saturday. They don’t port on sundays

  • Thanks OP. Got the deal by porting from Optus last night. Also got the G810 keyboard for 120 dollars with the gift card while I was there. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/gaming-ke…

  • Did it this morning at parramatta - guy was really helpful and worked well :) $200 gift card in hand and number was ported over from optus!

    • Were you completely new to Telstra? I have an active telstra sim that has never been used and am wondering if I am a new customer.

      • +1

I have another phone number with Telstra - I just didn't tell them about it. They ported over from Optus fine and it set up data sharing with my current Telstra sim automatically

        • great..I actually went to T online chat and someone told me that I get the offer, just go to jbhifi!

      • +1

Each sim/number = it's own seperate account. So you would not be a new customer if you are wanting to use your Telstra sim and number for this offer, however with your main sim and number, porting that number over from your current non-Telstra telco, would be eligible for the offer and seen as a new account/customer.

  • I have got a month left on my Vodagone contract and early exit fee of $73. Can i take this deal now, port my vodafone to this deal but can start on 24 oct qith Telstra and still get $200 gift card?

    • Someone above mentioned you can delay the porting/activation by up to 30 days, so I'd say yes, just mention it to your service person and they should be able to set it up for you.

  • Can anyone confirm how long the gift voucher is valid for?

    • +1

according to JB Store Rep, indefinite as they can always reactivate the actual balance by going into the store!

      • Mine is 2 years.

  • This is an awesome deal =- thanks so much OP!

    Just went down to JB

Ported my Woolworths prepaid over to Telstra.

$49 indefinitely according to sales rep.

$200 JB HIFI gift card with no expiry date (as they said they can renew it)!!

This is in the window of JB HiFi Westfield Sydney CBD

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/231472/52408/dsc_2566.…

Just signed up, ported across and got the $200 gift voucher in about 5 minutes flat, which I promptly used to put towards a new phone.

  • Managed to port from Aldi to this. I've also ask the staff about what happens after 12 months. Staff said $10 discount and extra 5gb continues even after contract. It only gets removed if you re-contract with another plan.

    • Can to pay using jb hi fi gift cards for this?

      • Not sure. That would be a good idea if we can.

      • you are not paying anything to JB anyway, just signing a plan contract with telstra through JB. Telstra bills you directly.

  • Signed up no problems!

  • Ok, this deal is amazing but it's doing my head in from a current Telstra customer whos BYO plan has just run out. As previously posted on this deal yesterday arvo, I tried Telstra 24/7 web chat and got offered nothing apart from whats on Telstra website. Contacted Telstra sales and again nothing, only what was on Telstra website. Got put through to Telstra disconnections and still nothing, not even 1gb more for anything.

This morning went to local Voda store to get a $2 prepaid sim to port out from Telstra with. Came clean with the Voda sales chick about what I was doing re the JB deal and she advised me of two issues.

    1) Porting time from Telstra into Voda or another carrier.
    2) Apparently, Telstra won't let you port out your number and port back in within a 14-30 day period depending who you ask?!

So go next door to Telstra shop and speak to some random sales guy about any porting restriction to which he had no idea about, great help!
Call Telstra accounts about any porting in/out restrictions and got a reply of they "don't believe" there is any…thanks Telstra call center Malaysia!!
Lastly rang my local JBHIFI store about this deal and spoke to a really helpful staff member who is signing customers up to this current deal at a ridiculous rate!! JB told me that in fact there would be an issue for me to port out my number from Telstra to another provider then port back into Telstra with the JB deal within a space of 30 days. He stated that customers have already tried with this JB deal and it won't work?! Yes, I want to keep my current mobile number due to work reasons.

So has ANY current Telstra Mobile customer managed to do this (port out/in/back) again while keeping their original mobile number or can confirm/prove they have got Telstra to match this JB deal? I'm sceptical with the only 2 posts on this thread that state they have when they have only been members of OB for a few hours of this thread starting???

    • Would like to know more info about this also.
I went into my local Telstra store and they didn't know anything about a port out/back in cooling off period.

    • Yeah what a headache… I had no idea of this "cool off/porting period" that Telstra apparently mown has in place? Afaik no other telco has this, and you used to be able to port in/out/back in without any problems… I guess Telstra now are really cracking down on the sim hoppers and trying to restrict them… Who knows what the real deal is with it? And from what it sounds like, half the Telstra staff don't know anything about it, and yeah some people have reported successfully doing the port out and back in within a small time frame? Bad timing by Telstra if if is the case. Keen to hear more from people, regarding this.

    • Yes, if you port out your number from Telstra, then Telstra system still need issue you a bill (final bill or final bill with termination fee), during these period you port back in, then your phone number, personal detail still match Telstra system. So you won't be NEW customer. Unless you port back in after 12 weeks, then you definitely called NEW customer.TELSTRA is different with others. (You may luckily port back in 30 days and still qualified, but Telstra internal docs says 12 weeks)

      • Can I ask where you got this information from? It's just, there seems to be conflicting evidence from people in this post saying they have successfully ported out from Telstra, and then back in, on the same day even.

if you port out your number from Telstra, then Telstra system still need issue you a bill (final bill or final bill with termination fee)

Hmm, maybe it only applies if you were/are a postpaid Telstra customer, and maybe the people successfully porting in+out+back in are Telstra prepaid?

        • +1

I was on Telstra prepaid and successfully ported in/out (to/from Vodaphone) within a space of 3-4 hours

    • Hey just a heads up, as like you came up empty on the 24/7 chat x twice

Had no luck calling the 1st time, just about zero luck the 2nd time then she put me through to the save team, an Australian form Adelaide.

She then proceeded to give me the deal offered above $59 15gb+5gb - $10p/m discount = So $49 20gb Unlimited Talk and Text - Recontracted for 12mths (Discount on going until next re-contract)

Don't give up, Don't give in and settle and keep calling. Get to the save team so you don't go to Optus or Vodafone.

I also explained Optus we're offering 15gb for $40 and Vodafone offering 17gb for $35 and 20gb for $55 ($5 discount on each plan)

Also stated other Telstra customers we're getting this deal and said Jb Hifi are offering this as a Telstra Deal (didn't mention had to be new sign up)

1.They were saying thy couldn't do the discount of $10 at first because I wasn't porting in my number, but the save team aussie member gave me the discount as a loyal customer.

2.Said they could add the 5gb bonus data to make the 20gb as a value/retention customer

So everyone play bluff to disconnect but you'll need to get to the save team who can offer incentives to stay not just the people off shore who answer your call. The online side is also a complete waste of time so don't even bother. They will just send you links of current advertised plans.

Hope this helps out others. Good Luck

    • I changed both mine and my partners plan to this $59 + $10/m off and 5gb extra, from previous out of contract BYO Telstra plans. First chat the agent got confused by the jb hifi deal and when they realised I wanted the $59 with the discount/extra gb's it was smooth sailing from there.
Second chat I just said I wanted the $59 BYO plan with the extra 5gb and $10/m recontracting discount ($49 with 20gb), they said okay done and that was it.
As someone else said just keep trying on chat until you get it.

      • Well done!

I tried with disconnections, and went to supervisor with no luck..

        Was offered:
        -$59 with 20gb (L $79 with $20 discount)
        -$49 with 15gb (mx plus 5gb)

Was on live chat for ages, will prob try again another time

  • signed up 2 sims, both under my name. One from Woolworths, other from Jeenee
what had to happen for my second sim was a new telstra account - couldn't use the other account as it already had the discount registered and only 1 per account it seems.
login to telstra now and select each account from the drop down, however it shows the $59 plan 15GB, no where i can see the $10 discount + extra 5GB. Will start a chat session later and see what they see on my account. Otherwise JB person was very helpful and said if any issues go back and see her.
Hoppers Crossing JB (old Geelong Rd)

    • No problems here, ported 2 Sims on my name, got the 2 x $200 gift cards and walked out in 30minutes…Also got text for 40gb shared data from Telstra.

  • Just ported my number across, got 200$ gift card. However, when I logged in my Telstra account, it only shows 15 GB of data. I thought it would be 20GB, should I contact Telstra to get them change it to 20GB?

    • As i mentioned, i got a text after porting mentioning 20gb allowance, i think give a few days for online account to reflect the changes.

      • I received a text from Telstra as well. It mentions only 15 GB sigh

        • same wtf

        • +1

          @Lgame5:

So spoke with telstra on chat and they added the extra 5gb :)

        • @Lgame5: same here, on the phone with them for 10 mins. Luckily they honored JB HIFI deal so yeah all good.

      • Same here, text from TelstraData saying that I'm on a shared data allowance for 20gb

        • same boat. on Telstra chat now and they can see the $10 discount, but not the additional 5GB data. Said to go back to JB Hifi to check with them as Chat cant see that promotion

        • @krnage: On your Contract/Paperwork with JB, there will be a order number mentioned e.g. 1-1xxxxxx, etc just quote them this number, and the chat rep should initiate a change onto your account to add the extra 5GB, then you'll recieve an sms with the updated data allowance. Can also link them the OP's flyer image mentioning the extra 5GB for new Telstra customers.

        • @keepingtrack:

all sorted when I went into JB this morning. Got the added 5GB which was missing on both my sims I ported over. Though this person said I could have rung up while yesterday the other person was 'oh come in'.
When talking to Telstra chat yesterday, they 'didnt' honour the Op's image, it wasn't a 'Telstra promotion'

    • The guy i spoke to in store said it can take up to 24 hours on top for the 5gb to show up.

  • Hi, does anyone know if the $5 data share sim works with mobile broadband device?

  • Ok, ported my number from Telstra prepaid at 11:30am to Vodafone and signed up at 2:30pm at JB with all the trimmings :)

    • So JB were able to port you back into Telstra on the plan no problems? That's great ^^ Just curious, did they mention/you tell them that you were with Telstra earlier that day and ported out just today? And last one, were you on Telstra prepaid or postpaid? Cheers

      • +1

Nah, just asked from which company I was porting from and that's all, no mention that I just ported and I was in prepaid.

  • I wonder if my number counts as a new customer

I ported out to try Vodafone prepaid a week ago after my Telstra Business mobile BYO phone contract finished. The last bill was due today.

Surprisingly Vodafone data coverage is quite bad indoors within the City of Sydney area where I live

Is there any way to find out whether the Telstra mobile system now considers me new or not?

I don't want to waste time going to a JBHIFI store on Sunday and then finding out I can't port over

    • +1

If your number is currently with Vodafone, then you are definitely eligible and considered 'new' in terms of this deal.

      • It worked yay :) number ported over in 10min so I swapped SIM in store

  • Hi guys. Does data roll over on this plan?

Can you pause it if you go OS?

I'm assuming personal hotspot is OK too.

    Thank you :)

  • +1

Changed over from optus. Was done I less then 30min.

  • +1

Ported over from optus this morning. Was done within 5min of the guy submitting the application. Can confirm that 20Gb of data appears in my telstra account. And my contract states the extra data, $10 discount and that they apply until I change contract. So if there isn a better deal in a years time can just stay on this for $49.

Also received the $200 gift card no hassles. Will use it towards buying the iPhone X outright from JB. Works out far cheaper than any plan with comparable data will offer for the X over 24 months, given the cost of 8 plus plans and the likely premium over it (even on optus). And means I can upgrade in a years time if I want.

    • Good thinking, planning on doing the same with the iPhone X

  • Just to clarify - is this deal still being offered tomorrow, Sunday?

  • +1

I got the deal, very happy.
Just wanted to thank the KANE9952 for posting this amazing deal.

  • +1

Got the deal today. My contract says the discount and extra data are valid until I recontract! Awesome

  • +8

I've jumped on live chat this morning and requested for Telstra to match this offer for me as I am an existing Telstra customer and my current contract ends in two weeks so I thought I'll stick with Telstra if this could be done. My mate got his existing plan upgraded successfully in this morning so why not?
Nope. They wouldn't honour it or try to offer me anything at all. The staff on live chat kept sending me links to their current online offers. Wasted my time so I had to call Telstra up and spoke to someone from the Loyalty department, then was advised she was not authorised and had to wait for her manager to come into work and will give me a call after lunch. Nope. No call whatsoever so I decided to call them again at 5pm and had to repeat myself all over again. Horrible experience with them over the phone even after it was escalated to one of the managers. No attempt to retain me as a customer and pushed me to go to JB Hifi if I wanted anything done. 4 years with Telstra paying ridiculous amounts for their iPhone plans and now I can finally move on and try out Optus.
Sorry for venting to you guys but I'd thought this community would want to know how some service providers treat their customers.

      • Vodafone offering 17gb for $35

Can you please provide a link for this?

        • +1

I am guessing its a typing error and it's meant to be $45 per month. However if it is indeed $35, I am ready to port over. Like right now.

      • Same happened to me about 12 months ago. Telstra wouldn't match an offer for existing customers compared to new, had been with them for 10 years so walked to Optus…
0 hesitation to come back to Telstra with this deal tho

      • why on earth would you do this and not go through jb you missed a $200 gift card.

        • Already a customer of telstra. Too much hassle to port in and out. And 2nd couldnt make it to a jb store. Why on earth would I not try for an extra 12gb on my plan for $9 .

        • @Nph81:
Fair enough but for $200 worth the hassle thats a new tablet.

      • I would have thought the Loyalty department is like a 'save' team. This experience has ruined my weekend so I don't want to call up again and get rejected. I just tried the live chat again but they read my previous chat record and pretty much referred me to their current website again and tell me to go eff myself.
I guess some people got lucky and spoke to the 'right' staffs.

Excellent service at Chermside JB. They had the flyers up everywhere.
The lady had my Mrs changed over from optus to my telstra account in a jiffy.
JB did have to ring Telstra to apply the $10 credit as they don’t have the authority apparently. Contract she signed showed bonus 5GB, and $10 monthly discount.
At the end she got the manager to check over everything and issue the gift card.
As we got back to the car the port was complete.
10/10 thanks OP and thanks JB!

  • Ported out from Boost to Voda in 5 min. then another 30 min. at JB to seal the deal ;)

  • Not a good experience with JB Broadmeadows. Ended up get everything but it took over 2 hours.

30 minutes to be seen then the remaining for porting over from Optus.

  • Anyone who is on Telstra postpaid had success with porting out and porting back in again? Or are those that have done it all on prepaid?

    • +2

I'll find out tomorrow morning and update you on that.

      • Thank you!! That would be much appreciated :)

        • Worked fine for me!
Just to clarify I was Telstra Post-Paid > ported to Vodafone prepaid yesterday > ported back to Telstra at JB HiFi :D
