      • Yeah I will

        Thanks

  • +1

Any idea when this expires??? Have a 3 month Kogan voucher I'm sitting on.

    • Looks to be 24th..

    • Promotion runs on 22-24th September

  • I managed to get the same deal through chat and I'm an existing customer - took a while though.

    • what about $200 JBHI gift card?, or did they credit your account $200?

      • +1

I'm guessing they ignored the credit?

    • Hmmm, I just spent the last 1hr on the phone to Telstra after trying via Live Chat first?! I am an existing customer and my previous Mobile BYO plan has just run out. Would only be offered what was currently online and nothing else. Wouldnt even budge when I went through to disconnections and cancellations department, not even an extra 5gb or anything!! So please enlighten me how you managed to do this???

      • If you're plan just ran out, Buy a $2 Vodafone/Optus/any non-Telstra sim, port over to them, then rock up to JB and ask for this, or you could probably get it via Telstra online chat (if you don't want the JB gift card) and yeah, just tell them you're currently a prepaid customer with voda/Optus/whoever, and you want to join Telstra on this plan, and want them to port your number over. This should work, according to a post above, this could backfire, as apparently

        Jamiea
Telstra normally don't let you do this unless you've been with another carrier for 6-12 months

Still waiting on confirmation from anyone about this.

    • +1

I did the same, didn't get the store credit but saved $11/m and got an extra 3gb/m!
You really don't need to mention this deal at all, just say you want to switch to the $59 15gb byo plan and want the extra 5gb and $10/m discount

  • On Optus $40 12gb plan with free Spotify.
I seem to chew through my data and think Optus data calculations are a bit dodgey.
Reception is pretty good, but dead in some spots.

Given I have a xiaomi mi6, not sure if id gain much moving to Telstra reception/speed wise.

    Seems good though!

    • +9

Reception is pretty good, but dead in some spots

Lol my reception is good except for the parts where it's not good.

  • I have a telstra landline. Do I count as a new customer?

    • " I have a telstra landline."

Landline - So retro. Yes you would count as a new Mobile customer.

      • -1

Confirmed with Staff, the deal is valid for Woolies mobile customers, BUT NOT FOR BOOST.

If you only have Telstra landline, broadband services, this deal is also valid for you as long as Your Mobile Phone Number is not Telstra/Boost

  • It’s full coverage, not like Aldi and Woolworths. They are a full blown Telstra dealer. JB Hi Fi mobile is just the name of their Telco department.

    • -6

      Full blown like aids

  • +1

Bought a Note 8 from JB today and they offered me this. Though because I was with Boost, they could only do 15GB data because 'I was already with Telstra.'

Edit: and charge $55 per month.

    • +1

Could get around that by porting to a $2 Optus or Voda sim, then tell them you're porting from that.

  • Sounds like a good deal…not long ago people were jumping onboard Woolworths mobile for their Galasy S8 deal where 4GB dasta plan and a discount on their monthly rate of $10 was seen as pretty tantalising…15 to 20GB now? Shyte! Suppose you might need it with 5G around the corner.

  • +1

Presume porting from Boost Mobile will qualify as a "port"…?

    • Worst comes to worst, port to a $2 Optus or Voda sim, then port from that to Telstra through JB.

      • worked for me :)

    • Confirmed with staff that Boost mobile doesn’t count for porting

      • So if boost doesn't count, is telechoice in that basket as well?

    • As b0b0 said. Boost = Telstra

  • My prepaid expires tomorrow ,might head to JB and port both (my n Mrs) number to Telstra…then use the gift card later in the year to buy a phone outright

  • -2

thread hijack - anyone know how to get Vodafone live chat to work?? I'm eager for them to beat this deal … i'll trade off the better coverage of Telstra & free Telstra Air in lieu of their $5 roaming.

    • My piece of advice… always go to a store. They are ‘real’ human dealing f2f with you and are really nice to deal with. If you are looking to cancel your Vodafone and get this deal, you don’t need to go through live chat at all. By doing so you may have to go through those unnecessary boring conversation like ‘how can we do better’ when really, they can’t beat this deal

  • Sweet, gift card makes up for early exit fees! Got horrible coverage with Voda.

    • Thinking same with Optus. 3-4 months left on sim only plan, $200 voucher softens the exit fee blow.

  • +1

im going to ask virgin mobile to match this - threaten to leave. ive been a customer of theirs for over 10 years so ill let everyone know how i go :)

    • +4

How you lasted with virgin for 10 years is beyond me.

      • +8

        Abstinence!

      • just have to remember the golden word "NO"

        • ended up paying an extra 5$ and got 11gb out of them. so now on a $45 month plan with 29gb included month to month. just didnt get that damn JB hifi voucher though….

  • Will this work porting in from a prepaid service? $200 voucher seems pretty good, thinking it's too good to be true.

    • Not valid if you are switching from Telstra prepaid because your mobile number belongs to Telstra so not considered porting…

      • I'm on Woolworths - does that count as Telstra?

        • yes. see previous comment. Woolworths is allowed, not Boost.

        • @ts13:
          Thanks mate

Is there an income test? On centrelink only but honest to god have a job lined up for late January

    • +4

Yes they will run a credit check. If I was on Centrelink I'd be thinking about not spending $50 on a mobile plan a month. I'd try and cut down my expenses. I also wouldn't be committing myself to any long-term contracts.

      • I already spend $30 on virgin prepaid and whatever extra it costs for an extra data sim. I think i could swing $50pm especially as the gift card brings the price vaguely to how much I currently spend.

I guess my other question would be if I will be able to salary package a pre existing phone contract new year for that sweet tax discount

      • -1

They do a credit check during sign up, and they ask for your current job and how long you’re with your current employer

        • Does your earning have anything to do with credit checks? It's not a credit I will be applying for. Isn't credit check about your credit history?

        • @apprentice:

They don’t ask for your income. I guess they are required to just do some quick check. But I did also ask the lady the exact same question and she said there are customers who owe Vodafone lots of bills, then try Optus, does the same thing, then try Telstra, etc etc

  • dont forget you get access to TELSTRA AIR mobile wifi hotspot data and its still UNLIMITED

$200 CR is enough for a decent mobile, or a dint in payment for one at least.

12month contract but credit only lasts 1 year before the price returns to 'normal' but by then who knows what deals will be on offer

  • If your mobile phone is with optus but you have other telstra services, can this still be used?

    • +1

      Good news yes!!

  • +4

The terrible thing about this deal is once you're with Telstra you don't want to go with anyone else.

    • Depends,I lived in a house that had great Vodafone and Optus reception, but terrible Telstra reception.

    • Until you have to "deal" with telstra….

  • +1

Thanks for posting this great deal, it is available at all JB HIFI stores?

    • +1

I’m at a JB Hifi store now, they don’t reveal this deal anywhere in the Melbourne CBD store but if you show the flyer from Ozbargain page the sales lady honour it right away

  • to sweeeteen the pot, absolutely no credit check to scar you for 3 years on your credit report

  • ported from Telstra to Aldi 2 months ago, wonder if I can still get the deal?

    • yes you can

  • Thank you very much OP for the deal. I am thinking of how to spend $200 now.

  • can't find the $200 gift card and $10 off/month on their website.
    is this legit?

    • The $200 isn't mentioned on the website deal page, so all we have to go on is a snapshot of a paper ad.

    • +1

Completely legit, show the flyer you have in this ozbargain page.

I ditched Voda and I’m now on Telstra, 20gb for $49, and I’m holding a $200 gift card now

      • Hi, Which JB Hifi store did you go to ? world square asked me to buy iPhone 8 for $200 gift card

        • I was in Melbourne CBD store. Try the other store?
Otherwise let me know if you want me to pass the contact of Melbourne CBD store so that you can prove it to the World Square staff (are they trying to squeeze sales?)

  • The faq is going on in here?

  • +1

Does anyone know what newspaper this came from?

  • I'm on 15GB for $60/mo and that was a good deal for Telstra. This is an absolute ripper.

  • After 24 months will i be charged back $59?

    • It is a 12 month contract (which is good)

After 12 months there should be another better deal given the competition out there

    • Its a 12 month plan….the credit will last for 12 months…

    • I signed up tonight instore.
      12 months.
Under my extras it states. Go mobile plus additional service $10 credit-until recontract.
5GB mobile data share bonus-until recontract.
So I recken if you stick to this plan you wouldn’t have these extras removed?

      • Did you get the $200 gift card too?

        • Yea mate,
The guys at JB were great. As it was a new promo they were still in the process of going through the T&C’s but walked out in half an hour with my phone ported onto Telstra with gift card in hand

        • @wato21: which JB did you go to?

I went to world square one and they said i needed to buy an iPhone 8 to get the $200 credit

        • tbh, it sounds like the salesperson just didn't want to do the work without also getting more commission from you buying a new phone
Having said that, it's strange the ops didn't mention their source e.g. was this from newspaper, email, etc? At least the source might've had some detailed T&Cs to clarify eligibility on the $200 JB Gift Card.

Anyways, gonna try tmw and post my results.

        • @Kewlj:
          JB Greensborough Victoria
The manager had an employee guide on the deal so all stores should have the details of the offer?

        • @Kewlj:

          Do try the other branches

  • Can you get this online through JB Hifi’s website at all? I’m currently overseas and would love to take advantage, but obviously can’t get to a JB Hi-Fi shop.

    • probs via Telstra web-chat, but don't think you'd get the voucher. doubt JB would honour it online though, too much of a hassle.

    • $10 port in discount is easy, 5gb bonus data isn't hard either on the 24x7 chat. anything more than that is tricky. JB aren't really doing anything too special. $200 gift card is it.

      • Thanks for the responses ts13 and obit11 - seems like Telstra web chat is the way to go and I’ll just miss out on the voucher.

  • Does anyone know if you’ll be able to use the cellular Apple Watch 3 if you get this plan via JBHIFI? Is it the same as going direct with Telstra?

    • +2

      It is TELSTRA

      • Thanks buddy, all i needed to know. Will be heading into JB tomorrow.

  • +1

Any ideas for existing Telstra customer porting over a new service (from Optus).

I'm thinking I won't even tell them about my existing service and just tell them the new number. They will put the new number on a different account number so no data sharing - but Telstra should be able to consolidate the accounts together at a later date.

    • +1

From my conversation with sales lady, my understanding is as long as the number you are porting is not Telstra/Boost, you are considered ‘porting’ from a new service and considered eligible…

      • Sweet - thanks for that!

  • Both me and wife are thinking of moving from Optus for this deal. Is data sharing available on this deal?

Also, if I want to buy a tv from jb hi-fi using the vouchers would I be able to use multiple vouchers in the same transaction?

    • +1

I got a text after signing up saying that I am on a shared data plan, so presumably if you both get the deal you will have 40gb total.

I can't see why you couldn't use 2 vouchers at once, they just give you the standard gift card you would normally buy for someone.

  • Does anyone know if I can get the L plan with same discount? ($10 off + 5GB data with gift card) Just interested in international calls.

    • +1

Yes just ask and they'll give it

      • +1

if you want the international calls, can just add $10 international Pack once you sign up for the M plan

    • +1

The underlying plan has to be at least cost $59 per month for this deal to work - worth asking 😊

  • does anyone know if free apple music streaming/free 6 months apple music comes with these plans? can't find anything regarding both. good deal

    • +2

Yes they BOTH come with this plan. I received a text message to activate my 6 month free trial with data free steaming

  • +2

All good, ported over just before closing time at the Holmesglen/Chadstone store in Melbourne. Staff had me sorted with the correct deals and $200 gift card with no issues.
I ported from Aldi mobile, who resell Telstra. No issues at all, was activated in under 2 minutes.

  • I just signed up sim card only plan with Optus $30/month for 12 month. I got $15GB, unlimited call and 300 mins for international call. This plan is $40/month on Optus website. They discounted 25% for me as I have few internet services with them.
