No, 75" FHD Sony was $2500 … 2 years ago.

    • +2

wait another 2 years for FUHD

      • +3

I'll wait for the FUKD model thanks =p

        • @phunky

This is a 4K UHD TV (not FHD), also has HDR, and is superior in every measurable way.
Your FHD from 2 years ago is a Model T Ford by comparison.

    • +2

Mate it is 4K. I found your humour there but deal is expiring soon so no time.

      • +1

it was a response to statement - cheapest 75" sony

        • But it is the cheapest 75" Sony available is it not?

A quick interwebz search doesn't show any even close to $3500, let alone under it.

        • @UFO:

          "Cheapest ever for 75" sony.."

That would be 75" FHD sony deal on here 2 years ago.

        • @phunkydude:

I missed the "ever" bit , I get your comment now ;).

        • @phunkydude:

          Don’t quit your day job!

  • Nice deal but where to get one at this price in WA?

  • Just bought a place and have a massive living room, will pull trigger as soon as I settle (in 30 days), shame it won't be available at this price :(

Are we expecting good deals for Christmas?

    • +4

Why do you have to settle first?

    • +3

always wait for christmas for TV

      • Agreed. Boxing Day sales are great deals.

  • I'm still holding out for the X9000E 75" for this price as that has full array local dimming and not edge lit like X8500. Hopefully Boxing Day sales will be kind to 75" size TVs this year :)

  • +4

In 2024 we will see 75" OLED for $3,999

    • +3

      Might wait for this…

      • Buy the SONY to tie you in for the next 5 years.

        • My last Sony from 2009 still pretty good. Still too expensive right now for UHD, 4k, OLED

If I upgrade those features are must have

    • +5

The 77" LG OLED was $25k in 2015 and $20k in 2017. At this rate they should be around $4k by 2029. You could either wait till then or buy one now as a high yield investment.

      • +2

I'd like to think we'd have something better than OLED by 2029.

Something with the same contrast and color space but without the pixel degradation or retention. It's impressive looking but it's flawed tech.

        • Yeah I wish they continued to develop autostereoscopic (without glasses) 3D TVs. Toshiba did one then the 3D craze died. I want a holodeck dammit.

        • @Ryballs: I've seen holograms at the arcades as a kid. They will give you a headache.

      • +2

Will this TV go well with my 80k car?

    • -2

why you didn't get neg ?

  • +5

    Android TV is shit

I know, because I own a Sony TV..

    • +1

really? I love my xiaomi mi box

    • +4

Wait till you try some of the other TV OS. You will think Android TV is amazing.

      • +1

Really? I think WebOS and Tizen are much better than Android.

        • Samsung Tizen on the 8 series (one of the top models) is a poor man's android tv

        • +1

Maybe but it's easier to use and more stable.

        • @Ryballs:

Can you get Apps like Plex, YouTube, etc on Tizen?

        • Yes.

        • To each their own I guess. I much prefer Android to Tizen.

        • +1

LG WebOS is really nice and the remote mouse is clever and works well!

    • +1

I love Android TV on my X8500C. After all of the updates (especially the 6.0 update recently) it runs great.

      • +1

I've got the 75" X8500C too and haven't had an issue with it either. There is a massive thread on Whirlpool though suggesting plenty of issues for other people. Wonder what the difference is that causes so many issues for others?

    • +2

Android TV rocks. Nvidia Shield FTW

    • Maybe you use a Android based OS and not the actual Android TV? I too love my xiaomi mi box.

    • +2

Android TV is good on the nVidia Shield.

But you're right it sucks on the Sony. Too slow.

    • +2

its sad but at the moment the LG has the best OS of any TV maker.

      The rest are nothing special

      • They bought the great WebOS from Palm Inc.

    • Yeah man, can't wait for an iOS tv

  • 75"… clearly not big enough.

    • Once you go 75" you can't go back to 65"…

      • same I am struggling with now

  • I almost mistook it for an 85" TV. Sneaky Sony.

  • Good price, however the price differential for the 75” compared to the 65” is still too large!

    • +3

Because it is a much larger tv

      • Yes, but I think the price gap differential for screen size is still to much, ideally 75” would be $2,500. For me it’s as per your username!

    • Price of tvs goes up exponentially beyond 60".

  • Probably percentage wise between 55" to 65" to 65" to 75" it isn't that big.

    • Maybe as a fraction… But in phsical screen area my guess is its significant.

      • 55” to 65” is about a 40% increase in area whilst 65” to 75” is about 33% increase in area.

        • In raw screen space (sq. Inch) the increase is an additional 20% when going 65-75 as opposed to 55-65. Not an enormous amount but understandable why there would be a price difference. The real difference ariaes due to economies of scale. There are way more 55's and 65's sold / made than 75's. The shipping for a 75 would also be a fair bit higher.

        • @Wallyt99:

Thanks guys, you are all correct, I must think in total area.

$2,700 would probably be the ideal price for me to buy at then, hard to get at that price though.

        • @Wallyt99:

I’m not sure where you got your figure (20% ?) from or actually what your figure means.

I used http://tvcalculator.com and stand by the figures I quoted.

Ie. 55-65 is a larger area increase than 65-75.
          Ie. a 40% increase compared to a 33% increase.

        • @Eeples: The difference in screen area from 65-75 vs 55-65 is around 20% more in real terms. When you give those figures its on as reference of a percentage of the size below.

  • if only this was in a few months time then I would be so keen!

  • This or the 65 inch LG OLED In similar price range. hmmmm tempting

    • +1

Watch TV mainly in a bright room where people only sit directly in front of TV? This TV is better due to brighter screen with narrow viewing angle

Watch TV mainly in a dimly lit room and/or sometimes view from the side? OLED is better due to true black and wide viewing angle

There's more to it than that but they're the main points.

      • What about a bright room where people view from all angles. 😭😭😭

        • Probably LG LCDs as they use IPS panels which are made for wider angle viewing. Not as good black level/contrast but that won't matter much in a bright room anyway.

Samsung and Sony use VA panels that have better contrast but their picture quality diminishes significantly when viewed at more than about 20 degrees off-centre.

  • If you are fussy. This TV may not be for you as it has bad Dirty screen effect.
The same model last year 75 8500D was cheapest at end of november sales. Thats when we got ours.

  • I have the 55" version of this, got it during the recent 18% off sale for a steal :P
it is an excellent TV so far, great value for money, and definitely holds up to the quality suggested by the "rtings" review. The 75" model would be damn impressive especially wall mounted (make sure the wall is strong enough to hold that kind of TV)!!

  • I live in a room with money under my mattress

Unfortunately my room is too small for another tv

    • +1

      Ceiling?

  • Anyone successful with price matching?

  • -1

Waiting for the Sony KD-75X9400E to drop below $5000…

  • No stock in Canberra.
