  • Has anyone tried to use their Amaysim/Kogan/etc cheap sim plan to:

    Step 1: migrate to Telstra as a new service
    Step 2: wait a month then take their normal/main number, and use that on the plan? (Discarding the amaysim/kogan number)

    I've just been assuming no, but wanted to see if anyone's done/tried this. Would love to find a Telstra $40/12GBish plan but the plans only seem to get this good when you're coming from a competitor.

  • Just queried about porting from Boost, and it is not possible. I asked if I could port to non-Telstra, then back and I was told it might be possible but no assurances. I asked how long the deal is running, he couldn't say.

    • On the last Jbhifi deal I ported out (Telstra prepaid) and ported back in in a space of three hours and on a Saturday. So yes it's doable, I ported to Vodafone ($2 sim). Good luck mate.

  • Got 18GB@$49, 15+3GB. Rep stated that if you had a second service with telstra you got the full 5GB, seems 3 is probably the standard they can do if its just a single service with them.

    • Might try again and got for the 3 if I can.

  • I am on Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan ($70, I paid $50) with 12gb and unlimited international call & sms ending this month.
    So far I am happy with the reception and data speed but I barely used any international call. I will be happy to paid $40 for 15gb more or less. Any existing customers got this deal?

    Just got three options over live chat
    1. BYO Mx plan it's at $49/10GB monthly with unlimited calls/mms/sms (I can give you a $5 discount monthly - to make it at $44/10GB per month)
    2. BYO M plan it's at $59/15GB monthly with unlimited calls/mms/sms (I can give you a $10 discount monthly to make it at $49/15Gb monthly)
    3. BYO L plan for $79/20GB (can give you a $20 monthly discount) to make it at $59/20GB.
    None of them can beat Optus $40/14Gb cap, give up.

    • Just go get it done at JB, they'll do it no questions asked you gotta be porting from another carrier though. We were existing and just ported to optus for 2 days. Then ported back $5 and 2 days. The port back happened instantly! was so amazed!

    Did chat and phone call but they wouldn't budge and honour the offer in OP's title.

    • I already set daily task from now on, keep bothering Telstra until got $10 discount.

  • Initially tried to get the deal without it being attached to my existing cable broadband service but both times they wouldn't give the 5Gb bonus unless it was, so went ahead anyway. SIM arrives in 3-5 days.

    Coming from a Virgin $40/10Gb month to month plan, the extra data should cover tethering the kids iPads on trips in the car plus the added bonus of Apple Music and NRL streaming should justify the $9 increase each month.

          Contacted them via chat, now have the extra 5gb… very happy as the new deals with $49/20gb were getting too close to my $70/25gb but with 30gb I can feel Im still ahead for the extra $20 a month Im paying.

          Watch some netflix now when Im out as SD is 300mb an hour. Just make sure you set the mobile data in the netflix app and your right!

    for reference for those playing telstra chat roulette: my $39 for the $49 mx plan came with 10gb and they didn't automatically add the bonus 5gb. So i just went on chat roulette and quoted the link http://telstra.com/bonus5gb, and got the bonus 5gb added on the first chat attempt. thanks to shiningstars for the link
    p.s. the $10 discount was a loyalty bonus, been with telstra for 10 years (only the one mobile service, was on month-by-month plan).

    • Did you sign up to the $39 MX plan on one chat and then later on do another chat to get the 5GB added on after?
      Or do you mean you had to go through different live chat reps before you could convince them to do the $39 price with 5GB bonus in one go?

    This is the deal I just made this morning, via online chat, as an existing Telstra customer for the last 4 years with 4 mobile plans.
    Mx $49 @ $39 loyalty discount.
    2GB Bonus data for being nice to the agent. (Ask the Agent for a data sweetener)
    2GB Bonus data for re-contracting all 4 mobiles. (Ask the Agent to seek approval from their supervisor if not originally offered to you)
    $39 with 14GB for each plan.
    Total per month: $156 with 56GB shared data.

    Next is to apply for the bonus 5GB http://telstra.com/bonus5gb

  • looks like you gotta try the online chat a few times. Not because of "different agents" but more like, the chats do funny things in the background and tend to take you to different departments. some of them don't seem to have the discretion to make such a deal (whether actually true or not is debatable but that's what I've been repeatedly told on various different chats) but apparently once you hit the right department, they're well aware of what you're after and it's not really a problem, they can give it to you on the spot….In my case, i finally got to the right department when I just sat on the MX plan purchase page for long enough without doing anything (went to chuck a piss tbh), came back to see a popup asking if I need to talk to someone before purchasing, clicked that, and the person who answered pretty much gave it to me on the spot without much haggling.

    PS.. not existing customer, porting prepaid from another carrier.

  • Hi all finally bit the bullet and managed to score $39 for 15GB processed tonight.

    started off with asking about the pop up advert with 5GB promo and how it works. agent goes on about depends if you meet the criteria. asked if I was existing or new. Said existing. agent said 5GB applies to all post paid plans.

    I casually asked about the previous student deal $40 for 10GB.

    agent goes I have a deal for you $10 loyalty discount + 5GB on the MX $49 plan. I said sweet lets do it.

    went through the process only to have an error unable to process and lost the chat.

    started another one explained I got offered a great deal and could they process it.

    new agent processed the same deal I lost manually all confirmed and will wait 24hrs to kick in

    I did a 24x7 chat just now - I am a current telstra prepaid customer.
    Said I had spoken to someone at telstra previously about the Mx plan with the extra 5GB and $10 loyalty discount and asked if they could help me with it.
    They instantly set it up no questions asked.
    Will take up to 24hrs to kick in.

  • Had a problem getting my port to go through, just ended a chat where they gave me a data sweetener.. so I get 20GB each month instead of 15GB :)
