San Francisco has always been free with the default Lonely Planet App
The LP apps always seem to crash during a restore. Just a warning.
NYC looks like it's free too
Saw that, but got some "item is currently being modified" when I tried to dowload it.

I don't think its a mistake, as of right now (time of post) mine is downloading.

Er, it does. Why would it not support it unless you use some of its GPS features?
The NYC one says that it requires iOS 4.0 or later. I have a 1st gen ipod touch and it doesn't support the newer updates.
Sorry :D It worked on my Gen 2 iPod, so I assumed you had one of the later generation models.
