    New ipads will soon be on their way to fully support the latest ios4.2 update that is being released in November. Keep your eyes open you may see some good prices.

      Apple generally works on a 12 month rotation with the iPhone and I expect the iPad will be the same. Don't expect a "new" iPad before April next year and if supplies are limited, May for Australia.

      If you want to wait that long for an additional camera or two and some more RAM, go for it. But the current iPad will definitely be ale to take advantage of iOS 4.2.

          meh it was about time Western companies caught on with screens with denser pixelation. My friend's Japanese phone from 5 years ago had "retina display" before it existed.

        Items start coming on special when they are just about to be superseded by newer models. Just do a search on the internet and there are many articles hinting at new ipads being released later this year or early next year. The new ios4.2 will support facetime on the ipad. Now what's the point have facetime on the ipad if the damn thing doesn't have cameras. The new models will be coming soon and they will house cameras so ipad users can utilise facetime and other benefits of the cameras. In June, the new iphone came equiped with dual cameras. In September, the new ipod touch came equiped with dual cameras. It's not very hard to see what direction the next ipad will be taking.

          The new iPad being released is one with a smaller screen. I highly doubt they will replace this size iPad so soon.

    I think Apple is innovative and have great software integration and general build quality but it's the gotchas with Apple. No flash, no USB and the big one is no SD card slot. Fixed memory forever. In no time at all 32GB will be pissweak.

    I am waiting for the Samsung galaxy or similar "Pad"

      Interesting points - read many android users dont like flash as its draining the power. As for SD card, you can attach via the camera connection kit connector, but as ipad doesnt have camera itself like a phone, memory use except what you add via your computer is not very much. Ie if you add programs via the computer to increase memory use you can delete/archive other unwanted stuff as well.

      +1, I love my iPod Touch, the thing's as solid as a rock; I also reckon the general engineering & build quality of Apple hardware is superb, so I'm no Apple hater!

      That said, Apple's practice of omitting fairly basic design features (like bluetooth, camera, flash, USB ports, etc.) from their early generations of devices; let alone when they disable them in proprietary FW or charge for a SW update; only to have these features magically appear in quick revisions is appalling, nobody else would ever get away with it, yet fanbois lap it up!

      I would also like to see a quality (possibly Android based) competitor to the iPad. Like the Touch, it would also keep the price down too! ;)

    Just be mindful iPad requires a 10W charger - twice that of usual iPhone ones.

    The iPad comes with a free charge by default, and I think that the $19.95 OO charge for shipping would get you a decent case off eBay/DX etc. Or you could put it towards your choice of fancier case from anywhere else.
