Telstra T - Touch TABLET $299 Outright Android 3G Wifi Data Pre-Pay $150 for 10GB 365 Days

135

It might not have the elegance or even the capacitive touch-screen of an Apple iPad, but Telstra’s Android-powered T-Touch Tab is surprisingly good, coming in at an affordable price, having Android market compatibility and being remarkable in that it’s actually a great ultraportable tablet that stands out in a sea of cheap and useless Android tablet competitors.

starts 2 November. Includes 3GB data for 30 days starter kit.

  • As long as the touch screen is more responsive than that on the T-Hub it should be fun to use.

    • No data about the processor and ram
      No flash support(android eclair 2.1)
      No multi touch
Release on halloween's day …very spooky

        Resistive touchscreen
        2.5 hours battery life

  • Now thats a big call

"a great ultraportable tablet that stands out in a sea of cheap and useless Android tablet competitors"

cheap and useless, is that who they are competing against ? or is that ops speil?

  • So it comes with the $150 prepay credit?

    • I don't think Tel$tra would include $150 prepay credit for free.

      • It comes with a bonus credit of 10gb of data, worth $150

        • +1

No, it comes with 3GB of data and $10 talk/text credit. Data expires in 30 days. I think that's just another offer the OP is trying to tell us(10GB data for $150 with 1 year expiry)

"7 inch full touch mobile tablet1 and Starter Kit with 3GB of data and $10 of Talk/Text Credit to use in Australia2" from Telstra website.

  • Seems to be Android 2.1 (since Flash is not supported).

  • Will somebody please enlight me, is it a 7" phone? A freaking huge phone.

    • yea its ment to be like a ipad but u can also call from it

    • calls can be made by pairing it with a bluetooth device

  • "talk time: 2.5hrs"

    What? That is horrible!!!

How is this a deal? This is just the standard pricing for a new product, this is just a free plug for the T-Touch.

    • You're right. This is standard pricing so no deal.

  • proper bluetooth unlike the iPhone. Also, many connectors unlike the iPhone. Heaps of options unlike the iPhone.

    Not a bargain, everyday price

There are way better tablets coming very soon. My current pick would be the archos ones within the next few weeks.

This telstra one is ancient tech. And its the normal price, ie. Steep.

    • link to cheaper tablet with australian guarantee?

      • This is ozbargain, should I just go ahead and post all exclusive products at full rrp? should then change it to ozspam.

        • And so even if it is RRP but the features and price still kicks the butt of other products on the market then it still isn't a bargain? (not saying it does kick butt, just making a point).

Would you prefer they make it $599 RRP and then have a 50% off sale? Try not to be so skeptical unless you have some alternatives to throw into the mix.

p.s. I'm no expert on these products.

    • I dont think the Archos ones will be in Australia in the next few weeks….

    • Stumo - Yes we see you drooling over this on whirlpool

and by BTW your vote would have been removed based on the comment you made when you made the vote, your later one made it valid. To compare a product that isnt on market here isn't is fair comparison….

  • Hmm.. after seeing the tablet in stores I've only seen the offer with 3gb of data and $10 of Talk/Text credit as ozhunter stated..
Anyone seen the offer with the 10gb of data as the OP suggests in this deal??

After looking around this looks to be a rebranding of the Huawei S7..
Although I am a little confused as to whether it is a 1ghz Snapdragon or the 768mhz.. could be either..
Also.. as to value for money.. this seems to be the only Android tablet that has built in 3g/nextg.. available in Australia anyway..
The same model (as far as I can tell) without 3g is selling in Best Buy in America for $299USD.. with the 3g enabled version selling for $359USD or so (unconfirmed)

    "Some features of the Huawei S7 include the following; a 7-inch (800×480) resistive touchscreen, Android 2.1 OS, a 768MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 256MB of RAM, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, a USB port, a 2200mAh Lithium-ion battery, a built-in 1.3MP front-facing camera and a 2MP rear-facing camera."

    Edit..
Just had it confirmed from Telstra that it is running the 768mhz Snapdragon..

  • So is there any possibility of a 2.2 update for this? If so then i would say its a bargain

    • Well.. it hasn't been out for very long.. here anyway.. but apparently its been out in other countries for a month or so..
No idea about the possibility of a 2.2 update for it.. but it has been successfully rooted.. so we can only hope..

If it's anything like T-Hub and T-box there is no way I am going to touch it

    • -2

i wouldn't touch anything from telstra

    • Have you had the T-box? Because sorry, I disagree with you - I like it! :) Been with Telstra for a long time and find even though they don't get things like billing correct most of the time, their products are pretty good!

  • I wouldn't be so quick to buy it, Telstra is the first to release it's own tablet, I'm sure Optus and Vodafone will probably release their own as well.

  • Has Telstra got some value product after all these years? Normally I would stay well clear of anything PMG. Did they pay for these when the $ was parity? Is this the product Thodey's using to try and give Telstrs some credibility?

Can anyone get this tablet cheaper than aud$299 with 3G. If not, than this a good bargain. It also come with 24 months Australia warranty and 3gb data. The $150 10gig data for 365 day is not a bad deal as well considering it is telstra network.

    • Probably not, because it also retails in the US (Best Buy) for $299 (same price as us).

    • Agree completely! Backed by Telstra what else you would expect for that price. I am the first one to buy. Better than 999. nothing gets better than Telstra's network in Australia

  • Seems it can output 720p video via HDMI adapter…

  • anyone got a better i ternative?

    • *alternative

    • Viewsonic tablet, maybe.

  • $299 outright would be good, but headline is wrong. Device is subsidised and locked - further payment required to unlock.

It doesn't seem that cheap to me. A mate looked at one last week for $299

  • good REMOVED BY MOD. tried it yesterday.
