Should We Ask Moderator to Ban Shopmonk.com.au

We have heard recently about issues with www.shopmonk.com.au.

  1. They cancelled the orders with reason no stock is available. But at the same time website still has stock.

  2. I personally received two phones which were rooted and can't be considered as brand new.

Many people complaints about no response from seller. Not enough contact details are given on website. Number does not work. No address is given.

Overall we are putting community at risk. Many people will end up losing money.

I think at ozbargain we should take a stand and decide to block this kind of seller.

Thanks

There's a really good deal on pitchforks for your angry mob.

I personally received two phones which were rooted and can't be considered as brand new.

Perhaps should have noted that on the deal you posted for Shopmonk.

    The no case from Scotty:

The question "should we ban <retailer> on OzBargain?" has been asked many times previously. However the policy here has always been that we rarely ban stores with poor service. I think we have only banned Android Enjoyed and GearBest due to their service issues (and GearBest resolved the issues to have their site unbanned 11 months later).

If the item is shipped from overseas (i.e. non-Australian stock / grey imports) please try to make it clear in the post or in the title (especially expensive items such as mobile phones). If you have service related issues that you wish to share with other OzBargainers, you can post in the comments of new deals or create a new forum thread to discuss it with other members.

@Baysew .. I bought Samsung galaxy c9 pro which is rooted

      • -1

So why did you post a deal for them?

        • +2

          This happened after that.

    • This is not just about poor service from Shopmonk, a more accurate discription is dishonesty. OzBargain bears responsibility for what they publish. I hope they don't overlook certain things for more views.

    • there is something dodgy about them i can't figure out
its very unpopular in other countries too for Naughty dealings (google it). all the reviews on their site looks like paid ones more than 99% positive response :)

    Nah. I vote no

People will always post their negative experiences on a deal so users have the choice to take the risk / decide if they are willing to buy. If you banned every company that had some bad feedback/experiences then most companies would be banned because you can’t have 100% success

  • Shopmonk were liars from day 1. Proven.
    Read the earlier threads.
There is no excuse for selling rooted phones as new (if true).

    • @smashed … Check this & this

I sent an email on 4th October. Today is 13th. No response so far.

I raised my case with PayPal and response is two options.

      1. Full refund if phone is unused (my comment: how do you know that it is rooted until you use it?)

      2. $20 refund for the issue. (I spent $400 each for two phones. So less than 5% refund for used & rooted phone)

      • Mate, I have gone through your case. Let me add some more info.

I agree your phones weren't as you expected them to be. Shopmonk gave you the option to return the items for full refund but instead you wanted $400 partial refund, which PayPal decided as unreasonable and refused your claim.

        • Shopmonk offered full refund for return even if the items were opened or $20 partial refund if you wanted to keep the items.
        • All postage is covered by Shopmonk.

Please see below evidence of all this.

        https://1drv.ms/i/s!Ap-MCiMxSGT7pATEVUmvDvZklxxg

        • Thanks for uploading evidence. What do you mean by original condition?

Only after using one would find the issue with the phone. So there is no way I can send you phone in original condition. Even it was nearly a month. So phone has normal wear and tear.

Atleast your response does not deny the fact PHONE WAS ROOTED AND RESEALED.

Where as you claimed on website thay phone is 100% brand new.

I am preparing my case for misleading advertisement.

          Cheers

Where were you when I sent this message.

Even after 40 days you don't answer my question and trying to modify the truth?

          What about this?

I bought an iPhone SE 32GB a couple of weeks ago. It arrived on Tuesday (I was interstate) and opened the package today. The iPhone is NEW and was sealed in the box. I resized by SIM to fit the NanoSIM holder and I'm set. All for $369. Yes it is a grey import, so not sure how warranty issues will go.I would have no hesitation ordering from them again.

iPhone 6s plus bought from Shopmonk, brand new in sealed box, started having weird display glitches. Possibly after daughter might have - ahem - dropped it. Went into apple store and they fixed it no problem. Only thing they said was they might have swapped the phone for a new one rather than do the repair (one hour wait whilst they replaced the screen) if we'd bought the phone from the store rather than overseas.

      • did you bought an applecare via online or it falls within 1 year warranty?

        • +2

One year international warranty, technically…. Although it will depend who you see in the store and what the problem is. The person we saw said it had a 2 year warranty, and we weren't going to correct them. :-)

      • Its never a new one. They always give a refurbished one.

  • They should ban gearbest before they ban shopmonk

    • Haha, you're having a good crack, aren't you?

    • what problems did you have with Gearbest? I've never had a problem with them so I just recommended them to a friend.

  • I think they are all good until when customers didn't manage to get the "special" offer t. I find both online shops OK. As for mobile phone, if you buy from overseas online shop … always read the specs as they are not mend for local (OZ) telco the 1st place.

I had a look at the votes on all the past Shopmonk deals and the trend is overwhelmingly positive:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/shopmonk.com.au

Probably means most of the past deals were legit. ie. They advertised new stock and delivered new stock.

Shopmonk deals have only been appearing for half a year. Half a year of operation with mostly positive feedback is a short time for making such a harsh conclusion that they are scammers. They could be scammers but they could also be a fast growing, competitive startup company with teething problems.

I personally received two phones which were rooted and can't be considered as brand new.

This is most concerning, that Shopmonk has sold reconditioned/used items as new. The practice is not unique to Shopmonk. I remember OzBargainers complaining about MSY stores doing this for computer parts. MSY has not gone out of business but it had lost a tonne of good will. Consequently I noticed a drop in posts advertising MSY clearance deals.

For now I suggest treating Shopmonk like MSY. Complain to Shopmonk and seek resolution from them. Give feedback to OzBargainers on the eventual outcome. Whenever a similar Shopmonk deal pops up then feel free to neg, warn others + provide details. I know I'd be reading the comments more carefully whenever I see a neg vote.

I think at ozbargain we should take a stand and decide to block this kind of seller.

That's something a competitor would say.

    Vote no.

    • Even someone who is considering whole community as one family would do the same. It's just how you see

      • +2

Thanks for your concern. However, banning a retailer based on a few unverifiable complaints isn't in the best interest of ozb members.

Everyone is on a pitch fork spree lately. There must be something in the water.

  • I was planning to buy iPhone 8 Plus on Shopmonk until i read this poll, now i am in a state of confusion. Are they the real deal? I dont mind grey imports tho.

    • +1

shopmonk is the real deal unlike the guys at gearbest

      • Thanks! I am still reading many pages of comments here on Ozb regarding shopmonk.

Didn't expect them to ship the $260 QC35s but they delivered - they're great in my books.

  • I would vote to ban considering my own experiences with them. Biggest problem is their lack of support and comminution. It is nearly inexistent.

    • Seems sumfin' is broken.

  • They have the seal of approval from certain influential OzBargain people so can't do much about it even if you wanted to.

    • +1

Let's see. Ozbargain is community and community members' voice should have value. It's not only moderator but we all have made ozbargain a brand.

Ordered iPhone 6s plus from them - after hearing some of the issues people had I was a little concerned, but the price was excellent and I thought I would always be able to get the money back eventually if the deal went south. Stated delivery was two to three weeks.

The mobile arrived less than 4 business days from ordering, tracked entire way by dhl. Was brand new, in original sealed box, with extra Aus charger in bubble wrap. Maybe I was lucky, but for me at least, their service could not be faulted and I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

  • I don't know, should we?

  • As of now I am on holidays. Once I come back I am going to raise this with consumer affairs Victoria.

  • The Samsung C9 Pro was FIRST RELEASED IN CHINA….THIS MEANS NO GOOGLE PLAY unless the phone is rooted!

I think this means ShopMonk rooted the phone for you and installed Google apps.
(If they did then they should have stated it on their website!!!)

Check what C9 Pro model you have!

    • Yes. That's what I mean. They are carrying out wrong practice

    • +1

You don't know who rooted it and what other things were put onto the phone. Big security / data protection risk.

Cheap prices but I don't trust this seller and would rather pay more than deal with them again: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/331903#comment-5191262

  • I sent message more than a month ago but no response so far. Proof

  • i have bought a samsung galaxy s8 plus and a samsung note 5. Cheapest you will find
product delivered within 2 days from singapore

I did email them questions but got no response. Frustrating,

    • You will never get response. I asked moderator but they said they will not ban shopmonk.

  • @shopmonk: Where is my phone? You've sent me the wrong phone, then led me to believe the correct one would be sent as soon as I sent yours back. Then you said that you never had the intention of doing this. I sent the phone back over a week ago and you still haven't sent the correct one out, instead today contacting me and saying that the phone is out of stock but that you can ship the same incorrect phone back and refund $20.
    It's a 3g phone, in 2018, surely that couldn't have been a serious offer!?

    • They are just another scammer sitting overseas. No ABN. No response on phone number. No response on email. You can't chase them. I have decided to comment on every post of shopmonk so I can tell people who they are.
