  • SON OF Bridge?…

I hope my wife frequency is 433MHz

  • Can i use this to automate my chamberlain garage door opener? Maybe with google home Voice command & homeassistant?

Unlikely as most garage uses a rolling code for security

  • I bought a RM pro to open my garage door, but couldnt get it work. Turns out my garage door opener uses a rolling code (dynamic), which will not work with the RM or this one.

You may want to double check if your garage door has rolling codes before purchasing

    • Most will likely use rolling codes, and therefore will require other products to get it working.

If your garage door works with this… That means other people can get it working too…

  • So most common uses would be aircon and tv?

    • Not likely TV. This is a RF bridge, which is using radio frequencies. I'd be surprised to find a TV that doesn't use IR (infrared), or these days Bluetooth.

Some aircons support RF, others are also still IR (and therefore you will need an IR blaster which has line of site with the receiver unit, e.g something cheap like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/255195 or for some more $ broadlink's RM pro which has both IR and RF).

Think about the ecosystem of products particular brands have, if you are going to want to ever consider getting more auotmation going. It "can" start to get ugly when having to tie them all together.

Something like openHAB is looking at solving these issues.

      • Any idea if these are supported by OpenHAB2?

        • I haven't had a chance to play around with these techs, but from what I've read I don't see why it wouldn't work (be possible to interface with).

Of course this is a quite more technical than simply being able to plug and play (and use the provided cloud services and provided application(s)).

I'd suggest considering how advanced you want to get, how much you want to spend, and how much time you want to invest in getting everything up and working as you want it.

  • I haven't had much luck with mine and Google Assistant. The RF output is lower than the RM Pro, so I had to relocate the module. It would also work fine when I first set it up, but an hour or four later, it would stop responding. The app will still work, but Google Assistant would look like it sent the command, but the RF Bridge never actually sends out the command. Rebooting it will make it work for a while again.

I eventually went with the RM Pro and Home Assistant. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but it works great!

For anyone interested. You can load custom firmware onto these to unlock more options, and also other opportunities to interface it with other systems (e.g open hab)
