I've got a set of porcelain and a set of fine bone plates.
I would definately recommend spending a bit more for fine bone as they weigh alot less and are stronger than the porcelain.
An extra $40 can get you this set.

I suggest you have a look at both sets and then decide.

    • I agree. We use 'Cashmere' classic rim as the plates are thin and flat we can stack more of them in less height. Haven't chipped one in 4 years iirc.

I always opt for a fine bone :)

I see the Corelle sets in Woolworths on sale at least once a month. The one mentioned in this deal, though usually it's more like ~$40:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314622

It's way lighter (because Corelle is laminated glass), chip resistant (I have ten year old Corelle stuff that looks like new), looks way better, much easier to clean.
They can take an insane amount of abuse.

Maxwell & Williams stuff is basically one level above the cheapest KMart/Target stuff.

Due to buying things at various stages of moving, I had plates starting from Kmart stuff to fine bone china. The fine bone china (which costs way more) is the only one that compares to Corelle. It looks a bit nicer. But if you're not buying fine bone China, really, just get Corelle.

Wow Corelle is actually on sale at Big W.

There really is no comparison. Just buy one of the dinner sets below.
