P20MYER

Two Apple TV's just listed by Myer, in addition to 5 iPad Pro varities added to the existing Apple deal here.

Apple TV (4th Gen) 32GB $167.20 Delivered

This dropped to $209 last month by Apple, now a further 20% off that.
$22 less than the previous deal.

Apple TV 4K 32GB $199.20 Delivered SOLD OUT

Newly released (I believe last month) Apple TV (4K), RRP $249.

Apart from the higher resolution it seems the Apple TV 4K also includes A10x processor instead of the A8. At a glance it's surprising the price difference isn't more. For anyone with a 4K TV or might get one in the near future it's probably worth the extra over non 4K model. As always do your research, there are non Apple options out there that many may prefer if you aren't concerned about brand or the Apple ecosystem.

Good price for the 4K model, much cheaper than US pricing equivalent too.

    • does it play youtube 4K videos?

      • +2

Yeah this - apparently it does not. How ridiculous - it's almost as if they deliberately try not to make the thing perfect.

        • +2

I'd say its Google not sending out 4K vs Apple not accepting it. Google don't even let you stream paid content in HD unless its on a locked down device…. but at least they have a way for you to access the paid content widely via a browser in some form whereas Apple do not.

          @Elijha:

It's because Apple hasn't implemented Google's free VP9 codec which is what YouTube 4K videos are encoded with. Apple only supports H.264/HEVC at the moment.

  • For those that don't ebay, would they price match that in store? Anyone had success with that?

    • Never ever will a retail store match an ebay only deal, and that includes Myer.

      • +2

Not necessarily, The Good Guys did it for me when I bought a washing machine.

      • +1

So Myer won't price match Myer?

        • Myer won't price match ebay sale Coupon

    Or just use chromecast

    • -3

Chromecasts are terrible. I say this has a Nexus Player owner.

Chromecast just gives companies like Foxtel an easy way out. Instead of making an actual TV app, they can just make people use their phones.

    • -2

      Chromecasts are rubbish

    • After decades of letdowns & failed expectations with gadgets, chromecast did exactly what it said on thebox. Dream to use, and cost absolute peanuts… but it's nothing like these devices. Which is why i bought xiaomi box 3. Holy crap. It's gameover. Best gadget ever.

Family & friends all have same now, and chromecasts in packed away.

  • 4K already sold out :(

  • This is a VERY sharp price. I paid $250 for it a few weeks ago…. The 4K 16GB.

  • What's the benefit of Apple TV compared to Chrome Cast? Never used one before. I have a built in chromecast on my smart TV

    • +1

Chromecast requires you to use a device to cast from. Apple tv is a streaming box with its own remote and doesn't rely on another devices to do its job.

      • Not being a smarty pants genuinely curious.

What does an apple 4K TV offer that your average 4K TV doesn't?

Netflix and other apps are available and often built into the TV. (my Samsung 4K TV has a dedicated Netflix button on the remote)

Many smart TVS also offer in built casting and if it doesn't like the previous user mentioned there's chrome cast.

        • You can rent movies from iTunes and listen to Apple Music directly from your Apple TV if you use these services.

        • You can cast your screen incredibly easily, straight form an iPhone. If you have a macbook (or even PC, with airparrot) it's so simple.

        • +1

Proper support for Aussie streaming apps and all streaming apps like Netflix. It’s ibregrated so you just hold the microphone button on the remote and say “play my kitchen rules” and if it’s available in any of your apps it’ll automatically bring the show/movie/episode up with the options you have to open it in (in case it’s available on multiple apps). Lots of other great features too, even if you only learn half of them you’ll still get a lot out of it. And it works out if the box pretty much, there is very little fuss and research needed to use it. Great for grandma and lazy geeks alike.

        • for Netflix you need, the right subscription to get 4K, a device able to decode 4K (enough CPU,etc) and content in 4K, and enough internet speed.
if you haven't got all 4, you probably get 1080p or 720p.

So you might have a 4K TV, but also need enough processing for Netflix 4K and a netflix subscription for 4K.

        • Many 4K TVs do not pass the full HD Audio and if you are into audio with your 4K video than you need a box like this. Not saying Apple 4K TV does pass through all the HD Audio.

The point being. 4K TVs are great for video with built in apps, but fail at Audio and will not pass through audio formats like Dolby True HD/DTS HD MA, etc. If you want a proper surround sounds than you will have to have a separate box that can.

Damn… missed out on Apple TV 4K. Not happy

    • Not happy Jan.

  • is this the cheapest appletv 4th gen has been or has it been better in AU store?

  • Oh what a miss. Until next time

  • +1

These are very good. The newest update for both models turns it into a really advanced service even with just the handful of Aussie streaming apps and Netflix. If you have Plex or am smb share setup (use Infuse 4) then you’re good to go as well. If you have an Apple Music subscription you get even more out of it. You can use it as a second screen for playing videos full screen in select apps on iOS. Can’t recommend it enough, the price difference between this and Android solutions is more than made up for in features, content, and great UI out of the box.

Didn’t manage to get a second 4k one :( It’s ok, Apple will flog me enough with iPhone X.

  • 4K Link goes to buymac not Myer

    • +1

It's sold out, eBay is probably redirecting you to alternative listing? Assuming you are on mobile.

      • Thx

  • Thanks OP. grabbed one of the 1080 models, will do for what I want.
Incidentally the price is almost $12 cheaper than the Gen 4 in the Apple refurb store. (which is obviously not a new unit although covered by 12 months warranty)

The 32GB 4K is back in stock at Myer.

    E: WTF? Pickup only?

    • And out of stock everywhere ?!?

      • Not sure about that. I live in Alice Springs so there's no stores nearby to check.

        • +1

I checked random postcodes in metro areas and all was showing out of stock.

  • They changed it back to out of stock :(

    • ?!@#*!

  • Thanks, awesome price!

  • Can you install other apps such as Youku, Tudou, PPTV, LeTV?
    Or would these be blocked?
