  • Has anyone used one of these 4K Kogan sets as a monitor? I've read about 4:4:4 chroma sampling being important for text quality, but haven't found anyone who's in the know re the Kogans.

I might have to buy one of these tv's just so I can review them for the internet because no one else seems to have a good one lol.

But if it is shit I may also gave to record myself kicking myself in the face for buying it lol.

You’re spot on mate. When mine arrives (presale, not until 29th Nov) I will be posting whether it has Plex among other thoughts

Awesome can't wait for the review I will be looking forward to a ten page report with detailed charts on whether or not the Kogan is not crap or is crap. Lol.. Haha just joking jokes aside I am mainly interested in not only plexus but like claw225 said it's monitor usages as a proper pc monitor and input lag. It's upscaling would be nice but not a needed feature for me as it will be mostly plugged into some other device and used as a display mostly rather than a free to air only tv.

        • @AlienC: Well it turns out the TV is android but might be an unsupported or modified version (I don't know android at all) so I cannot connect to google or sign in my account. I was able to install an apk via USB stick. Plex runs great. I've only run the TV for about 5 minutes so far so no real comments on the picture (looks fine).

Youtube runs like ass - wouldn't play a couple of videos properly (100mb FTTP), wired network.

Speakers sound like ass from the bottom of the ocean.

    • I'd be more worried about getting 4k@60hz. Most new sets should do it these days over hdmi, but you'll want to check. I think it should be good for a monitor but I ultimately went with a 28 inch Acer 4K monitor from Officeworks. Poor quality control with dust or something inside of it but otherwise it's fine. I wish I went with a 55" curved TV though, it'd feel like being in a big budget sci fi movie, like a computer from the future.

I get 4k@60hz on the Xbox One S. I get 4k@30hz from my media centre PC, but that's because of the graphics chipset.

        • With this Kogan tv?

        • @AlienC: yes.

      • Yeah, very true. I'm running an AOC 32' monitor at 2560x1440p@75hz (Q3279VWF8), but I just want more.

        • I know the feeling. After seeing how crisp the UI and icons are in 4K Overwatch I just can't go back. Even if the game engine itself is running at less than 4K, the overlay and icons still stay 4K. Their 1080p counterparts look rally blocky and now my eyes are spoiled and it's 4K or nothing. Even 1440p doesn't quite cut it. And I think 4K even blown up on a massive screen would still look just as good, it'll just be huge. I can't wait until 4K projectors get down to $1000.

        • I've the same monitor - great for the price and also good for 'work' to get rid of dual screens…

          Also gaming ;)

I have one, bought the non android tv version as it has a high refresh rate. Would recommend

    • Using one of the "dumb" 8500s which went for $508 a short while ago myself. The text is crisp and clear. Bear in mind that if you are using it for text type operations and are leaving the text normal size @ 4k, you'll probably get a fair bit of exercise moving your focus around the screen:-p
It scales up SD tv broadcasts well with no distortion. The only game I have tried is Skyrim, which plays really well. I can easily read a newspaper or Ozbargain from a couch three meters away.
The one annoyance is that my card was set up for 4K @ 30 Hz, and as this TV, like the Bauhns which it seems a clone of [aside from the better panel], has a bit of trouble re-syncing when refresh rates are changed it took a bit of fiddling to flick the input <HDMI 1> >[Composite> and back again in time to click the "OK" to switch it too 60 Hz refresh. Once done however, and it was fine.

  • Can anyone find a review or the difference between their series numbers?

I searched but our topics don't cover it, neither does whirlpool.

  • This was posted on the previous sale for this TV.
    In response to my post:

Anyone tried as a computer screen?
How is the lag on input?

I use it for this. I use a dvi to hdmi cable. The speakers on the tv crackle. I just have to turn the volume down to 0 and it stops it. Other than that. It’s great

  • Why are so many TV's curved? I don't understand the benefit, it limits viewing angle as well.

Anyone here own a curved TV and can help with the positives and negatives?

    • It looks nice, but after a while watching you forget that it's even curved. It's just bit of a sales gimmick really. I prefer having a flat one on the wall, but curved looks nice sitting on a TV unit

Price is currently $930.46 on ebay page… even taking 10% off it doesnt come close to the price here. Must have raised it sonetime in the past few hours.

  • Damn! Missed it! So cheap :( Guess I’ll have to wait for another deal.
