same deal available for the Galax 1070 8GB on eBay for around $500 if that floats your boat better.

1070 is generally overpriced; 2x the price of the 1060 for 20% more frames in games is a no deal for me

      • +1

Not sure how the prices have shaken out post-mining boom but shortly after launch the GTX 1070 was the best value proposition out of the whole lineup.

    • +3

      GTX 1070 isn't good enough for gaming, I prefer a Voodoo 2.

      • 3DFX lyfe

        • Hey, it suppprted SLI, slap two of those in ya machine for ultimate power!

      • Is that the banshee?

        • Banshee smanshee, I'm talking the real deal, Voodoo 2! Voodoo 2!

I replaced my Voodoo 2 with a Matrox G400 MAX, bitches were jealous.

I sometimes get the old nostalgia hit me, wanting to build an old rig, searching out decent 3DFX cards to play those classic games. Then I play Witcher 3 and realize games have got a shit ton better.

        • @FabMan:

wasnt it the MX ? i cou ldnever afford the real thing, so banshee it was for me.

        • @T1OOO:

The NVIDIA MX cards, didn't own one, but they were good bang for buck cards back then. Smarter choice then throwing money at the ones I did.

Off track but I want to share, back in March 2001 I bought the brand new GeForce 3 for £400, that was the GTX 1080 of it's day. Just 3 years later when Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 was released, they played shit, like a slide show.

Can you imagine PC gamers now accepting that a top of the line card not being useful 3 years later? An AMD 7970 from 2012 is still a capable gaming card at 1080p with most settings at high, over 5 years later.

Progress in gaming was moving fast in the late 90s early 2000s, while I'm glad I saw it, my wallet didn't.

        • @FabMan: The birth of the PC Master Race. The gulf between PC and console graphics back then was huge. I remember going to a party where a bunch of guys were going nuts playing Goldeneye 64 and thinking "what's so great about this slow, choppy, ugly-arse looking PoS?!"

        • @Fappo: I loved the PC games from then, but what PC game released at the same time looked better than GoldenEye? Tomb Raider 2 I suppose, but that doesn't look that great. I didn't own a N64, so I'm not that bothered, just curious.

1060 is the best value/money on the market. had a 3gb 1060 in my PC for a year now, 1440p been no issues with gaming on high

    • is this dual monitor?

      • +1

        no, a single 27" 2560x1440 @ 100hz

        • What is the model of your monitor?

        • @Vyrocious: its an overclocked korean monitor, Crossover QN270 or something cant remember now

  • This or a GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB?

    • +4

      This.

    • +1

1060 3GB is a faster GPU, both for 1080p gaming 1060 will give you higher fps and/or better graphics.

    • +2

1060 3GB is quite a bit faster than the 1050Ti despite the less memory on the 1060

      Just pulling some benchmark figures:
Rise of the Tomb Raider (1920x1080, Very High, SMAA)
      GTX 1060 3GB = 81FPS Average
      GTX 1050Ti 4GB = 54FPS Average
      source

1050Ti is pretty uncostly card so up to you to see if the performance is worth it :D

    • +1

      Definitely GTX 1060 3GB.
I have EVGA for a year now and I love it!
      Small and good.

    • +1

This is faster but be warned, this is most definitely louder. They have known issues with coil whine and loud fans under load. If you can deal with that jump on it, it’s a good gpu

      • Is it the gigabyte windforce card in particular that has this issue? Do you know if this gigabyte 1060 has the same issue:
        http://www.msy.com.au/nvidia/17559-gigabyte-n1060g1-gaming-3… ?

        • +1

The gaming version doesn’t have this particular problem, it actually has a different heatsink

        • @Melbournebargain: cool, thanks. The noise would prob annoy me so I'll avoid the windforce.

        • @Fappo: it’s not just annoying but it’s also distracting when gaming

  • +4

Bought it at $239 a few days ago at the 20% off sale.

  • can this card handle 1440p?

    • another poster mentioned they run 1440p gaming on high no problems so should be good.

    • +1

Depends what game and your FPS target

    • +2

No. Not enough RAM for QHD in modern AAA titles. Also this card only average ~60fps at 1080p ultra, so expect that to drop to about 40fps at 1440p. These figures are based on 20+ game bench reviews.

  • After I bought Steam Link I think I really need a better graphic card.

  • Was cheaper literally few days ago

  • Just brought one thank you!

    • +10

can you bring me one too?

  • 1080 price is also very good. $644 - cheapest on Staticice is $100 more.

  • I currently have a AMD Radeon R9 270 2GB GDDR5 in my current computer purchased May 2014. Considering whether that 3+ year mark is time for a whole new computer or whether this graphics card would be a cheaper option to get more life out of it?

The R9 seems to run really hot and the fan goes nuts if I play anything that is graphic intensive… for day to day work though the machine is fine. i7-4770 processor and 16gb of RAM if that factors into the question.

    • Your computer is absolutely fine for gaming, just replace your GPU for some better graphics and fps. This 1060 3GB is a decent upgrade, would give twice the performance of the R9 270.

Your CPU could support a faster GPU if you play PC games a bit.

    • If you're after mostly gaming performance, then yeah a new GPU would make sense given that your CPU/RAM are still fine by current standards.

If you don't already have one, you could also consider an SSD to help with system responsiveness.

    • yeah your machine is fine; a 1060 would be a great upgrade
heck im still running an i7 2600 and its still serving me well

      • Hey Sock, I'm also running an i7 2600, paired with a gtx560. Do you think it could handle the upgrade to a gtx1060?

        • +1

yeah the i7 2600 can handle any modern graphics card without any issue
(I bought a 1060 for myself with this deal!)

        • @Sock: thanks! was a bit worried, cost a pretty penny when i bought it but it seems like an eternity ago; I'll keep an eye peeled for the next deal.

        • I am the same i7 2600 but GTX 460 I think should be great to upgrade to 1060 especially after I bought the Steam Link.

    • +1

i upgraded from an R9 270 to this exact card about a year ago, best decision of my life

  • +1

Got one for 250 recently, great for 1080p with and old series 2400 i5

  • Would this be suitable for VR?

    • it can, though not always on all setting maxed. 1070 or 1080 would be the king

      • Thanks mate :)

    • If you are susceptible to headaches, VR is something i'd pay extra for. FPS doesnt matter in normal games but when its VR every bit counts. If you can afford the VR headset you can probably afford a good GPU

  • Very tempted. If my $30 off code stacked I'd have jumped on it in an instant.

  • +1

thank you sir/madam, just what i was waiting for after missing the 20% off deal

(Ive been literally looking all day for a cheap 1060!)

  • Maybe I'm tripping out, but did the seller price just go back up to $299?

Edit: My bad, the seller discount is applied at checkout.

  • +2

    "I don't need it… I don't need it….."

  • +1

This is a very good deal guys. The sweet spot in 2017 for 1080P gaming and low watts.

  • I have a gtx560ti, game at 1080p on a 23" screen… do you think this'd be a solid upgrade, or not much difference?

    • +1

gtx 560ti to this is like night and day

    • +1

Same here with an i5-2500k.. 24" 1080p 144hz screen.. still deciding

    • +1

This card is like 350% more powerful.

I'm not sure about my figure accuracy, but you'd be getting at least double the FPS if not triple at 1080p ultra in most games.

    • +1

do it, you know you want to ;)

560 is not even in the same league, 5 years of tech advances and all. Sure, performance would depend on any bottlenecks in your system, e.g. CPU or mobo/old PCIe lanes, which would prevent the 1060 to come to its full potential. Still with those in place I'm sure there will be much performance gain

      http://www.hwcompare.com/31252/geforce-gtx-1060-vs-geforce-g…

also, do yourself a favour and get a bigger monitor!

      • Thanks!

        bigger monitor

What's the sweet spot these days? (I thought mine was luxury!)

        • +1

Probably a good question for the forums, I haven't looked at monitors since I picked up a Samsung 27" 2,560 x 1,440 monitor 2nd hand.

The extra res and screen real estate are absolutely worth it, especially when you now have a Gpu that can handle it.

From memory you should be able to get a decent 1440 monitor around $300-400, but check forums as I'm out of the loop. Cheaper 2nd hand

  • Can i get this even if my motherboard is a few years old? its a i7 computer but quite a few years old. I got a GTX 670 2Gb card in it at the moment, Pretty sure my power supply is fine and can handle it. Just wondering it says PCI-e 3.0 Card bus on the card, not sure if my motherboard is 3.0? Does that matter?I got the Asus P7P55D LE motherboard. Good board at its time.

    • Yeah it will work fine on your motherboard, pci-e 3 cards are backwards compatible. Only needs a single 6-pin power connector as well which is nice.

    • Your motherboard has PCIe 2.0. it will work but with some slight performance loss

    • your motherboard is PCI-e 2.0 but this will still work. Frankly from what I've seen there's very little difference running GPUs on 2.0 vs 3.0

The 1060 actually draws less power than your 670 so your PSU will be sweet

      • Thanks so much for the prompt responses and also information. Sorely tempted to get it. I presume it will be a big step up from my current card?

        • it will be quite the upgrade!

          check out this comparison Link

          its anywhere from 2-4x faster

        • @Sock:

My GTX 460 not even on the list XDD

        • @superforever:

haha time for an upgrade i reckon?

        • @Sock:

Thanks for the advice and the link. I was going to buy it today but looks like it already expired :(, I didnt realise as i had thought it was expiring tonight.

  • This or 6GB? Seem not just ram difference, but 10% to 20% FPS difference too?

    • +1

      comparison of 3gb vs 6gb

For how much more the 6gb version costs, I don't think it's worth it.

      • Any 6GB deal?

    • The 6GB version has more CUDA cores (128 more cuda cores) due to reduction of 1 Stream Multiprocessor in the chip
if you do stuff like compute or rendering then the 6GB version is for you

otherwise the 3GB version works almost as well as the 6GB in gaming (I remember nvidia claiming only a 5% difference between the cards when they launched the 3GB)

      • No, exactly when gaming there can be as much as 20% FPS difference.

        • check this out

benchmarks show in gaming there is at most 5 FPS difference in games at the same clock speed; almost next to nothing

        • Maybe the 20% is maximum difference at one moment in the game. But when you take an average or median value of the FPS, the difference is probably less than 5.

  • Has anyone used this with an Oculus?

Tempted to pull the trigger but want to buy a Rift soon and not sure if this is enough

  • I just put an order through however the invoice they just sent through to me has added on an extra $24.46 for tax. Bringing the total to $269.

    Wtf. Anyone else get this?

EDIT: just checked transaction from PayPal and correct amount taken out, so should be all good :)

    • Yes I believe it's because Ebay foot the bill for the extra 10% and as far as the seller is concerned they still get the full $299.
