  • it could be just me, but i won't buy $600 phone without Australian warranty.

    • +11

It could also just be me, but i would never buy an apple, samsung, sony,or any other phones in Oz even with 2 yr warranty. Reason? Just overpriced. I have been buying xiaomi phones for years at gearbest or banggood. Never failed me and that's without oz warranty.

So true, but if I drop and break my Xiaomi mi5, equipped with Qualcomm snapdragon 820, dual sim, tough glass back panel, super lightweight at 129g, which cost me only 263aud including DHL 3 days delivery, then I might just buy another one. So, 263 X 2 = 526aud. Way cheaper than Oz sourced phones with nearly equal specs. BTW, your new replacement iPhone, is actually a refurbished one. But hey, it's still a good deal from Apple, right? I have bought Xiaomi phones for the family, friends, colleagues. Not one died within 2 or so years. Try investing in a good quality tempered glass screen protector, they have saved my screens.

        • @Edenshaw: The Mi5 build quality isn't very good. JerryRigEverything did a build quality test and it failed.

        • +2

"Apple Store and the guy says 'we'd normally charge you for this, but seeing as this is the first time you broke it, here's a replacement.'"

can you guarantee this for everyone with no hot chick in the vicinity of the conversation?

as we all know no company in Australia covers hardware failure under warranty due to accidents.

      • -2

I've been driving a vehicle my whole life and have never had an accident, therefore I don't need insurance, right?

    • Anyone thinking about buying a phone from lightinthebox should probably look at the table at the bottom of this: https://www.lightinthebox.com/index.php?main_page=return_pol…

Yes, that's a 3 month warranty period for your six hundred dollar phone.

I've had a Redmi Note 3 Kate and loved it, but for anything over about AU$100 I would want at least a full year warranty.

    Another choice beside iphonex

  • Nice price OP

  • This is Essential phone?

    • You probably mean one of these bad boys. For lower case 'e' essential - for some it is!

  • +1

Does it come with jousting sticks!!!!

  • The essential phone is a much better option at that price point imo. And Amazon is much better with warranty returns in my experience.

    https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Phone-Unlocked-Display-Came…

    ~$662 shipped.

Curious to why its better. Ive had quite a few Xiaomi products and very happy with their quality
Looks like it has the same limitations (no expandable memory, no headphone jack), but smaller screen, no dual sim, camera in top centre of screen (eww), relative unknown brand compared to xiaomi. Also $662 for a phone that averages 3.7/5 review doesnt sound that great.

Not wanting to start an arguement, but wondering how this phone tops a mix 2?

      • +3

        Stock android and fast updates.

        • I actually prefer the MIUI interface, never had a problem with it to be honest.
Im probably the only person who doesnt like the stock android I guess, can always install google apps and disable the xiaomi ones which is what ive done.

      • Yeah basically stock android, faster updates, higher res screen, 128gb storage and extremely good build quality.

The average reviews are due to a good (not great) camera and a much higher initial price (was priced at $900 up untill recently)

But each to his own. I'm sure the Xiaomi is great but I'd pick the essential over the mi mix at that price.

  • Does this come installed with English version Android and Google Play store?
Is there a need to hack it to remove Chinese bloatware etc?

No band 28 and no NFC and they want how much?

    • +3

Mix 2 does have NFC and also Band 28 actually.

The band 28 problem is exaggerated so much. I work in 'Regional WA', ie.. middle of nowhere, and also live just outside Perth metro area, and never had a issue with B28 problems on my current non B28 phone.

      • It's not exaggerated where I live (suburban area). It's the difference between getting signal or not.

    • Could you have even a little knowledge on something before you comment on it?

      • That's not the ozbargainers way!

  • Pity the camera position is in the lower corner of the phone. For good selfies need to flip the phone around ☹

  • paypal shows price at 659.59 aud, how to use US option at checkout?
