Black version available for $1274 on the Dell website with code PAX15. (Red also available)

    • +14

      But red goes faster…..

      • +1

Only if you add white pin stripes and some flames on it though.

        • +1

needs a spoiler though… aerodynamics is everything

        • …and fuzzy dice.

      • Interestingly black probably does as it dissipates heat faster. http://www.offroaders.com/tech/paint-it-black.htm

Unless of course you are playing it out in the sun in which case it would have the reverse effect.

        • thats why u need RGB cases. White when playing in sunlight and change to black when you need to cool it.

Who said RGB is just for shows?

        • +1

          bah… a gamer and sun don't mix …!

      • and it gets the girls…

      • RGB is like 10x faster than standard red

    • +1

Ask for custom listing for black colour, I have done that before

    • +1

Just letting you all know the PAX15 code has reached its limit (4 November) :(

  • Are there any better alternatives at this price? thanks!

  • can I run Playerunknown's Battlegrounds on this model? TA

      yes

      EDIT

      Found a better benchmark

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoZ59ZlZomE&vl=en

Difference is this guy has the 2gb version of the 1050ti (worse) and 16gb RAM (better).

Low settings he gets ~45 FPS in game, very low he gets 50-60 FPS.

I'm not sure how big a difference the 8gb RAM makes to FPS, however based on the above if you tweak game settings optimally for PUBG you'll be able to shoot stuff without it turning into a slide show.

      • +1

In the end it's really the game that's the dead end with this. GTX1050Ti is decent and does well in every other game.

    • +1

Honestly if you want to play PUBG any laptop under $3000 will struggle - I have a XPS 15 with higher specs than this and still had to run minimum graphics and windowed screen to get even close to 50fps. Built a desktop for $1400 and can now play on ultra with >90fps

      • +1

I am pretty sure that the game is just that poorly optimized that it will have trouble with any system. I have a GTX 1080 and an i7 6700K in my computer and the game fluctuates between around 50 to 80fps regardless of what graphics settings I change. I can run it on all low settings and get the exact same performance as I would on all ultra.

If you don't want to game - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-2-in-1-7th-…

    Incredible specs for the price…

    • -3

Great spec - but for me it's let down by low resolution (for 2017).

      • +2

I think that it is safe to say that even in 2017, 1080p is far from a low resolution. Everyone I know still owns 1080p tv's and game on 1080p monitors. Quality 1440p and 2160p are still quite expensive and out of the budgets of most people.

        • In my case, I've had a Dell 27" monitor for some four years which is 2560x1440, so this wouldn't even cut it on tech that old. If I'm upgrading a PC now it's going to need to be 4K.

          I'll keep looking. :)

  • May want to wait for Intel 8th gen laptops to hit the stores as the performance increase is much more significant than any previous gen bumps

    • +9

Please don't take any offence but when 8th Gen is out, someone will say wait for the 9th Gen. Technology never goes backwards so one can keep waiting for next gen.

      • Personally I’m waiting for the 10th gen! Any day now…

      • +1

I agree, literally the same thing about last gen, now that we have full GPU's in laptops and not M models the jumps will not be as substantial.

    • The next version of this is out soon, same CPU but comes with a 1060 6gb. Already has a quad core i5 so not much to gain for gaming

Prob the following gen will have 8th gen CPUs.

  • +1 for the Notebookcheck review

  • Man i really want this, but keep thinking i should hold off until the gen 8 processors kick in.

    • how much more money and time is that worth to you?
      which games are you playing?

      • Well have a console at the moment so not in a huge rush. Have plenty of time. Games will be Tekken 7, street fighter V, some first person shooter etc.

That said, I am probably going to end up getting a desktop for gaming, most laptops dont cut it.

  • +2

The 7300HQ is beaten in many regards by the i5-8250u. I think any gen-7 CPU is a bad investment as things are right now. The new i5 uv is quad-core and very powerful. See comparison with gen-7 CPU's. The HQ may have more grunt for some long-duration tasks, but uses 3 times as much power.

  • Anyone have a recommendation for a gaming/video editing laptop that beats this one at a similar price range? I'm guessing an i7 or an 8th generation Intel would be a safer bet.

    • +1

So you want the same laptop but with a i7 or 8th gen CPU for cheaper? If you find one please do post it.

      • No that's impossible. I'm wondering if there are better value buys under $2000. I'm guessing researching Metabox, MSI etc will yield the answer.

        • +1

but 2k is not in the same price range as something just over 1k.

        • +2

$2k is just over $1k when we put into context the overwhelming advised high-yielding financial investments of around $80k.

  • Can you claim TRS on imported products?

    • This is not imported

      • It says.
        Item location:
        Dell Overseas Factory, Malaysia

        • +4

It is imported by Dell, not you. You get an Australian Dell Tax Invoice with ABN, so you can claim TRS.

  • I was tempted by this until I read reviews that said the screen was terrible.

    • That would have been the TN panel

    • If you are up to the task, you can purchase panels from eBay and upgrade them fairly effectively yourself.

NOTE: I suspect this would void your warranty. My advice is of a general nature. I do not take responsibility for any damage incurred.

Can anyone tell me if the extra money for a Dell XPS range laptop is worth it rather than this?

    • +3

Xps15 will be much lighter and have a better battery, screen and overall build quality
This one has a better GPU and is much cheaper, potential for more storage (by adding a hdd or 2nd ssd) and ram/hdd are upgradeable

    • +2

I have an XPS 13 and it's beautiful, but only the XPS 15 has a dedicated GPU option and even then it's only a GTX 1050.

    • +3

The XPS will be nicer as a work laptop (better build quality, battery life, lighter).

This is better for gaming (Much better graphics card, a more powerful but more power hungry CPU, heavy).

      • Thanks guys for your response! I’ll probably hold out for an XPS deal as it’ll mainly be for work purposes not gaming.

  • how the f do they fit a gtx 1050 ti in it

    • with that Pentium magic.

  • Great laptop! I have the 7700HQ 16GB 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD + 1050Ti 4Gb picked it for $1495 still think I got an okay deal :)

Anyone looking at this deal thinking it isn't enough space you have a spare HDD slot and another memory slot to upgrade

  • I've been having a look at recent deals- as my son is about to grad dbl-mjr, CS/CSystemsEngineering. He games, mainly via Steam. His laptop is 2010. He has a better desktop, but been looking for a new laptop for him.

Can someone tell me how an i5/8GB/256/1050 is SUCH a deal?

I'm comparing to other recents & it doens't seem specs are that great?

    What am I missing?

    Ta

    • Going by the sales figures, there's actually not that many people buying.

      https://i.imgur.com/2pUtsiT.png

only 3 sold yesterday, and only 5 sold in this entire month of october.

and as to why it's not selling like hotcakes, is because this laptop isn't very portable, has a short battery life due to it's CPU / GPU combination and because of it's 'only average' build quality and poor selection of IO ports. In particular, there's no Thunderbolt or USB Type-C, and there's only three USB3 ports.

    • The qualification and his hobby are kind mismatched as far as laptop selection goes. The control engineer sitting next to me has a top of the line XPS 15 which he purchased a few years ago, and is happy with it. It looks professional and he does a lot of mobile programming work with it. He doesn't game (much) on it. As for the gaming capability you require, it really depends on which games he plays.

Your son has to be happy with the specs, look and feel of the laptop (as he will be spending massive amounts of time with it) - I would ultimately get him to pick it, and you can pay for it if you are so inclined.

    • +1
      1. This laptop has a very large battery, supposedly allowing it to run for 11-19 hours when in light use (though, as expected, gaming runtimes are much shorter). https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-7567-Gam…

      2. Compared to recent deals, most laptops with 1050TIs are around this price. The E570p is a bit cheaper, but doesn't have the battery life as per above.

If you don't game, there are plenty of other laptops in the price range with more RAM, storage and i7s, but for new AAA games, you really want a 1050 or better, making this a pretty decent deal.

  • I've got one, pretty quick generally. Often takes me 20 seconds to get past dell bio screen. My old inspiron with ssd boots in 5 specs complete. That is annoying. Screens not superb right, but viewing angles are good.

If you keep waiting for the next best thing, you'll be playing PBUG8 from space, when Elon sends us all on holiday.

  • Hope you guys don't have to use dell Customer service.

It is very painful. I spent a few hours to explain my issue and get a replacment.

  • Anyone knows if there is a way to pay for a faster shipping service? Couldn't find anything like it anywhere..

  • I’ve been looking at this laptop and another Dell one for $1465 after cashrewards - http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/pd?oc=z5112…

Which would you guys recommend for gaming? Thanks
