  • Go this or look for an OLED ?

If you are rich and will mind blacker blacks : OLED

If you are not rich or don't mind not having the blackest blacks : Go this or lower cheaper model

Is this another LCD display TV (like QLED) trying to make the gullible think it is a real LED TV like OLED?

Don't be a mug. LCD is fine, but it ain't LED.
Its like calling a Honda Civic an electric car because it has an electric starter motor and lights.

      • manic - no I do not believe that this is an LCD, but actually one of the "real LED" TVs.

        • manic is correct. This is a LCD TV with LED backlighting like every other LED TV in this price range. I don't think you'll find any 55" TVs with actual LED displays, eg. OLED, under $2K.

        • @dazweeja:

This is a LCD TV with LED backlighting like every other LED TV in this price range.

Don't all LCD TVS have LED backlighting now, even the cheapest? In the past they used CCFL.

        • @manic:

Sure but there's a lot of variance in backlighting quality, eg. the black uniformity of the equivalent Sonys in this price range is terrible (http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800e). This has a nice Samsung panel with 10-bit HDR, Wide Colour Gamut, etc. I think the picture quality is excellent for the price range but others may disagree.

  • Is this series 7 any good ?
    Anyone care to comment.

    • I've read some reviews saying the best under $2k. Even it is isn't it is very good value.

I just had a stroke trying to understand that.

I purchased this in August for $1,274. Would def pull the trigger at this price. Only regret is I didn't get the bigger size but I just need to bring the couch forward. Only real downside is no google play store or bluetooth but obviously you can use a box or dongle. Great Netflix integration. 4k content is great (whats aval). Basic recording to HDD that needs to be on the channel as single tuner. SD looks a bit basic on it but HD is great. Again - at this price point wouldn't hesitate to get it.

    • Bought the 65" during the last sale for 1600 and could not be any happier. Especially at that price. Why (unless you have plenty spare cash) would you pay a couple thousand more for blacker blacks ;-) Also comes with three years warranty and from what I have read Hisense are pretty good to deal with (e.g. people getting newer generation replacements etc.) So if you break down the price over three years (though I sure hope that it lasts longer ) you could not rent anything similar that cheap!!!

  • I got the N8 65 few weeks ago and love it. Have paired it with Xbox for 4k movies. Was tossing up between n7 and n8 and then the sales person put the n8 only $150 More so got that. We couldn't justify the extra money for OLED in that size at the time but OLED in 55 is close for the money.

    • How much did you pay for the 65N8?

  • After the kids have broken my last 2 Hisense 55s I purchased the similarly priced (when ozbargained) LG, all I can say is the Web OS on the LG is a thousand times better than the Hisense OS. Hisense with a xiaomi mi box or other equivalent is still a great TV.

    • I agree. Buy it for the picture quality, not the Smart TV features. I have a Chromecast Ultra, Fetch Mini and Telstra TV so not a concern for me.

  • Buy now or wait for the xmas/boxing day sales?

    • +2

      Wait

  • Having trouble completing purchase, keep getting error messages for the past couple of hours, anyone found this issue and/or a solution?

      • Just saw this damn didn't try it but thanks, I had to select "delivery" /+$50 for the transaction to go through, going to contact TGG to ask if they can reimburse/change it pick up because I didn't have any other choice to complete the purchase.
