It does say new youtube red customers only, but i was previously on youtube red before but still was able to redeem it! Make sure you cancel your ongoing subscription before activating the 6 month free trial. Doesn't stack on your own previous subscription.

    I've had a YouTube red subscription since it launched. When I purchased the Google home I cancelled the subscription and activated the 6 months free and it worked fine in the same account.

    Wish these were just 6 month vouchers.
    Id be more likely to impulse buy devices like this with their promos if it came with a tack on to my existing google music account (as i cant be bothered cancelling/resubscribing)

      Confirmed: if you cancel straight after you sign up. You get the benefits until the first billing period. Ie until 3rd May 2018

      IMO most peeps probably just have it for no ads, or they got it for free with Google Play Music.

      I heard Vsauce's series is the only good one on Red.

        Yep. I've never watched a Youtube red show, but I love the other features:

        • haven't seen a single ad on YouTube
        • download vids on work wifi to watch later on bus
        • background play of videos with screen off (music clips, Ted talks etc).

        Not to mention the included Google Play Music!

          @gilbarc: If you have Android you can install Firefox and uBlock Origin adblocking addon then watch youtube videos through the browser. I believe screen off playback also works on Firefox.

        Yeah I solely use it for no ads, plus the ability to use youtube with the screen off on my phone (live music recordings is my jam)

    Hmm how to best take advantage of this. I haven't activated my 6 months free from my original google home yet. And now got 2 Mini's which should give me more. Reckon there is a way to get through one, cancel, then activate the other.

      Hmm its not in my offers section any more. Haven't activated my mini's yet but the one from my original home is gone. Bought it in July and originally thought it said I could activate within 6 months.

      I got 3 months free with my Pixel XL last year and canceled it when it ended. Just got a Pixel XL 2 and came with Home Mini. I just redeemed the 6 months free on the same account.

      When I previously had a free Google Music trial I could not pay to upgrade it to the family version. Oh, no, actually it was the half price deal I think. Anyway, the upgrade button wasn't there, I had to wait until the discount months ran out to switch to the family plan.

    As a YouTube red subscriber i really wish that google removed the ads from the gmail mobile app, it constantly scans my spam folder and suggests dating websites, and yes have setup the categories to try to get better targeted ads to no avail.

    I activated today (in NSW) and it gives me 14 day trial, then an offer of another 3 months after that (if activated by 31/12/2017). I would have loved the 6 but $11.99 x 3 = $35.97 - so it chipped away at the $53 bucks I got it for at Officeworks. Very happy with the device =]
