    • The GRUNDTAL is a great alternative for just $14.99.

  • +2

Cheaper products are easily available at multiple places and the $12 shipping kills the deal even if you did prefer this brand

I would never use a magnetic bar with quality knives.

    • +3

      Don't believe in physics?

      • +3

        No, I don't.

Years of visiting porn sites has taught me that what goes up doesn't always come down.

        • +2

If you watch past the credits to the out takes, it shows the gerbil coming down.

    • +1

Which leads me to my question- are there any negatives with using this sort of thing to store / hold knives?

The only one I can think of is getting dust on them if you don't use them often.

      • -3

How about having a wall of exposed blades to rub up against?

        • +4

I mean sure, that could happen…if you install it in a hallway or something. Given that most people would install these on a kitchen wall above cabinets etc I don't see how that would be an issue?

          @mr626: Don't be sensible.

are there any negatives with using this sort of thing to store / hold knives

Yes, you will damage the edge unless you are super careful, which defeats the purpose.

As you place and remove them the edge will hit the aluminium frame.

For cheaper knives they are ok.

        • +1

No, you just need to put them on the magnetic rack at an angle (back edge first) and they are fine. I've had all my knives on one for years and they are fine, if anything they're more safe on one of these than in a drawer where they can bang up against each other.

        • @Brouw3r:

You still get metal hitting and touching the edge.

      • +1

        Few things are really important.

        1. Strong Magnet which can hold the weights of knives. That's why we used the good quality Magnet which gives strong grip.
        2. Good quality material
        3. Magnetic knife holder is much more hygienic than a wooden one. The wooden racks are absorbent and they hold water and develop bacteria
        4. Perfect for small kitchens

Most important one "Great way to show off your best kitchen knives." :)

        • +1

Thanks, doesn't answer my question though.

        • The wooden racks are absorbent and they hold water and develop bacteria

As opposed to roaches and creepy crawlies walking over them?

And not all racks are wooden and you should always dry the knife before storage anyway.

My Furi Pro block is metal and plastic.

Plus the knives are inserted blunt end down so the edge isn't affected.

      • If you put em back wet the water will catch on the magnet and you will get rust lines lol

    • +1

I have used a magnetic bar for my Shun 3 piece starter set for about 6 years now. No issues.
Its a stainless steel bar though, not sure about Aluminium?

  • -1

The wooden blocks can be a breeding ground for bacteria as water and food remnants gather from the knife blades. Magnetic knife holders don't have that problem. Because they are in the open air, they are able to dry out quickly, and bacteria does not live on metal or magnets. Exposure to the light provides an additional source of bacteria resistance. By keeping your knives in sight and off the counter, you are helping to keep your kitchen organized. Being able to see and grab the exact knife you want will also help you prepare your meals faster.

and bacteria does not live on metal

Well that's just clearly false… I was always told toilet door handles and coins (both metal) are some of the most bacteria ridden surfaces around.

      • And you can get pregnant by sitting on metal seats…

    • +2

bacteria does not live on metal or magnets. Exposure to the light provides an additional source of bacteria resistance

Exposure to ultraviolet light (class B and C) kills "some" bacteria/ germs and viruses. exposure to the standard led / fluro/ filament bulb does shit. So either set up your knives outside in the sun or install a uv light over your knives. Additionally all the little nasties can live on a metal surface.

      • You really know your bacteria.

    • Lol I find that a valid reason to neg you for falsely advertising your product… Pity I can't.

  • I just stick these to the wall.

    https://m.banggood.com/100pcs-6-X-1mm-Neodymium-Disc-Super-S…

Under $us3, holds 100 knives & they don't touch the edges & blunt the blade. Although you need to wash clotting blood & any bone fragments off first or they don't really hold so good.

    • 6mm diameter is enough to hold, say a meat cleaver?

  • This works out $2 more expensive than what you were previously selling it for on eBay

    And no cashback.

House has the longer 45cm version for $20 shipped.

Please quote the AS standard number - are you sure there's a standard for magnetic knife holders? Or are you just making this up like your BS about how bacteria can't thrive on metal and magnets, and how just being exposed to light will eradicate them.
