Rockwell 18V Brushless 13mm Impact Drill 2 Spd (Inc 2x 1.5a Batteries) $67.90 @ Supercheap Auto

40

Extra $5 for SCA members this weekend. Seen this in the Supercheap. Shows stock at every store i've looked up.

Have no idea about the quality, but its one of the cheapest impact/ brushless drills I have seen with 2 batteries included and a 13mm chuck.

The older Rockwell battery design fits Aldi Titanium products from last year. Unfortunately these batteries don't match.

  • Ohhhh Brushless so fancy!

It looks like it has a metal chuck? The amount of torque is bad especially for a brushless.

    • Looks like a 13mm metal chuck. Good pick up on the torque. Looks like Ozito, Ryobi etc are in the 50Nm range.

However, the Drilling capacity: Wood 35mm, Steel 10mm, Masonry 13mm suggests more than 30Nm?

      • The none brushless version has only 18nm so the 30nm might be correct.

It will still drill through most things. I have an older Ryobi from 2014 its okay its got about 35-40nm of torque and it works okay just slow. When i upgraded drills my newer drill which has around 50nm of torque and it makes such a difference. Although not a big jump.

        None brushless

This drill will work fine for most applications.

Pros to this drill would be.
        Metal chuck
        Brushless
        13mm chuck
        2 batteries
        Quick charger

        • All talk, no torque?

      • Wrong.
Ryobi brushless impact driver is 270nm of torque.
More powerful than Makita, DeWalt, Bosch Blue, etc, etc, etc

        • 270Nm? Which model is this?

The best I could find here was 125Nm for the Heavy Duty one (which I was considering). If there is a better option I might consider that.

        • @yoyomablue: Oh, thanks. But I was really after a hammer drill. Sorry I misread your post above.

        • An impact driver is not an impact drill though.

        • @Tiggrrrrr: on hammer drills, impact rate is more important than torque
Torque is more an issue for screwing

        • @yoyomablue:

Torque is more an issue for screwing

          Girth is also important.

        • So it has more torque than Makita, DeWalt, Bosch Blue, etc, etc, etc

        • @Luckypenguin: higher ipm & rpm too!

        • @yoyomablue:

          higher ipm

          Inches per minute?

        • [@yoyomablue](/comment/5252929/redir:

Thanks, but i would still prefer to get the drill with the highest amount of torque I can for the price.

I already have 2 impact drivers. What I need is a new drill (apparently leaving your drill on the deck during a storm isn't great for its life).

        • @Tiggrrrrr: i think you still didn't understand, this is a hammer drill, not an impact driver. You cant make comparison between them, totally different

        • @Jackson: I am not making a comparison between a driver and a drill.

"Oh, thanks. But I was really after a hammer drill. Sorry I misread your post above."

Or is me not realising the person commenting was comparing an impact driver to a drill difficult for you to understand?

        • @Tiggrrrrr: sorry mate responding to the wrong person

      • The equivalent US version has 60N.m of torque. So who knows?

    • Ok. Had a play in store. Box says 40Nm. In 1St gear I can't hold/ stall it. On the 2nd speed setting I can. Definitely more power than I expected. More than my Aldi 24v Titanium work series which I think is 50 Nm. So I would guess it's more like 60Nm.

      Extra $5 off this weekend.

  • +1

Seems like a reasonable price in isolation but I'd rather go for the Ozito range given their warranty (5yrs for skins, 3 for batteries) and availability at every Bunnings.

Plus so many other options at very reasonable prices, e.g. an angle grinder skin for just $5O. The one for my DeWalt cost $179 and whilst it's most likely better quality, for $50 with a 5yr warranty you can't go wrong.

    • And most of us have the Ozito Power X Change 18V 4.0Ah Li-Ion Batteries that was on sale a few weeks ago :)

      • Yeah i got 3. Now waiting for skins to go on sale so i have something to use them with

    • Agreed with this, I grabbed the Ozito X Hammer drill skin the other week as I had the impact and drill driver already and it worked well when drilling through masonary and also putting some anchor bolts through some 40mm concrete slabs full of blue metal. Worked a lot better than I thought as I had an old drill bit as well.

For stuff just around the house I can't fault it.

  • This is a piece of garbage.
The torque is atrocious and the rpm is atrocious.
And the ipm is so bad they are too embarrassed to list it.

    Even Ozito non-brushless crushes this

  • Since when SCA started selling toys?

  • There seems to be a race to the bottom in the bottom end brushless drills, at least the Ozito has 4amp batteries available, and last time cheap, to compete with Aldi.

1.5amp battery won't do much work.

  • Their website seems to constantly crash trying to update cart, its crap - they just lost over $500 of my trade - I wont bother again.

They must have a really crap algorithm that does not reserve purchases whilst your cart is in active use - instead it constantly rechecks stock making buying a number of popular item totally impossible.

When some companies have perfected brilliant painless online shopping experiences why do so many companies have such crap websites ( or even non -sites like Repco and Bunnings)

  • All this talk of torque and amphour - what are you like?

its a sub $70 and is very good for the price, being brushless should increase its longevity

I have a $400 Makita at work and a $150 Bosch at home and to be honest in most jobs they perform equally well

The Bosch has almost the same spec as this and is fine unless you push it past its design limits

    • I did notice the Bosch is similar. Personally I'd chuck a small drill bit in this to drill the pilot holes, have another drill to do the heavy work behind it. Saves swapping bits. The bonus here being Brushless and Impact/ masonry capabile and 2 batteries. Sub $70 you cant go too wrong. As a one off drill maybe an Aldi or Ozito may represent better value.

  • Rockwell, Worx, Toolpro and JCB 18/20v tools all appear to have a very similar battery and battery mount. I wonder if there is any sort of compatibility between them.

    • The older Non brushless 18v Rockwell drill connected perfectly with Aldi Titanium 18v tools. Unfortunately the Rockwell brushless 18v is different. Toolpro was different as well.
