The first desktop, with the Core i5 650 is first generation. I probably wouldn't bother listing that one as that's a very old pc (from 2008~09)

The best value one is the HP 8300 Elite. I would move that to the first item in your search parameters.

    • I hate being pedantic, but wasn't the first i5 released around September 2009 (the 8th I believe), as a mainstream variant of the earlier Core i7, the Lynnfield core. I think the Core i5 650 variant was released January 2010 if I'm not mistaken,

      Good point nonetheless.

      • Ya, Clarkdales are kinda old by now. The 650 was first released in Q1'10.

Having said that, the Lynnfields and Clarkdales are still reasonably useable as an office / home computer, see following for some comparisons between Intel processors of the past 10 gens or so (they mostly used quad cores for comparisons though).

If it was 8GB RAM, I'd pull the trigger for the HP 8300 Elite

  • FYI i5 650 is only dual core, before they had i3's

    • nah they had i3's before the i5 6xx series.

the i5 6xx series came with iGPU. so basicallyh i3s with iGPU.

THere're many 8300 listed <=$200 with 4GB RAM, no deal OP! you need to do better, not mega deal but mega rip off.

    • Megabuy is the name of the seller, I am just quoting that there…

Also, I think most of them don't include postage and seem to be pick up only.

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/323968 The HP 8300 (with only 250gb hdd but 8gb ram) could be had for $200 back in August, as well as the Dell Optiplex 9010 with similar specs. Not currently available at that price, so this deal might be the next best.

  • is it good enough to run plex, and some home assistant server?

    • The dual core i5 would be okay as a Plex server (assume that's what you use), but you'll probably want more power to transcode the videos for streaming.

      • thanks for the info!!

  • can any of these fit a low-profile low end GPU in them?

    • 8200 and 8300 can.

  • Bought one 8300 from Grays Online for $130 couple month ago.
