I got one of these a while back, they are great value.

Just be aware there's only enough space for ONE internal hard disk.
I put an SSD in mine and it flies… I've broken my all time record in Minesweeper using it !!!

    • I've broken my all time record in Minesweeper using it !!!

Is that's why you put an SSD in mine in the first place? 😂

      • I have one of these with 2 internal hard drives.

The model I bought a year ago had 1x internal SSD in a blue casing that fit 2 SSD's.

I bought a power splitter cable for $5 on ebay and have 2 SSD's in the same casing.

Only issue is that I can only plug in 1 external HDD before I get power supply issues.

      • Lol, JV should have added in a GTX 1080TI to play minesweeper in max settings.

    • +2

Glad, that this is JV approved :)

    • Yes and no, there is space to mount an additional SSD so you can run SSD + HDD but its a while since I did one of these and I cant remember if there is a 3rd SATA port on the MoBo.

If I was in the market for an additional desktop I would buy one of these in a second, never had any problems from the 9010's I deployed and a 3rd Gen i7 still has enough grunt for day to day apps.

      • +1

there is space to mount an additional SSD so you can run SSD + HDD

Not sure where. There wasn't much space. Maybe if you removed the DVD burner?

I just connected an external hard disk for secondary storage for my data files. With USB 3, I don't notice the difference.

        • +3

Removing the DVD drive is one option but from memory I just slipped it into the space at the front side of the case between the wiring harness and the PSU. SSD's are small and light its not going anywhere if wedged between wires and cable tied to something.

External USB 3 is fine for HDD's yes doubt there is a performance difference.

        • I have an older 9010 sff with a second gen i5. It shipped with a 2.5 inch hdd instead of a 3.5 inch hdd. The mounting caddy has room for 2 x 2.5 inch drives mounted on either side. Replacing the dvd drive is also a ood option as mentioned. I bought a slimline caddy from pccasegear for $15 to replace the dvd in my laptop and house a 2.5 hdd. I removed the bezel from the dvd drive and attached it to the front of the caddy.

  • Quite a bargain, but I'd say the other one you linked to at the bottom is a better buy, due to being full size rather than small form factor. SFF means you won't be able to upgrade the graphics card to dedicated if you ever wanted to. Not that the PSU in either of these would be that great anyway. Also SFF means potentially more heat/noise.

    • +10

If you're not a gamer though and just after a general PC for home or for the kids… This is excellent value.

    • +8

You can upgrade the graphics of an SFF pc as long as you have a low profile card. The 9010 SFF has a PCIE slot rated for 50w cards as shown here on page 19

So a GT 1030 like this would be an easy upgrade and i've seen people put 75watt cards like 750tis in prebuilts with less watt allowance than that and have it not immediately blow up so a 1050 could work as well.

      • There are a few youtubers that have opted for a 1030 due to the 1050Ti cutting out, from lack of power.

However those were on the previous gen with the Q67 chipset, which is PCIE2.0 (lower wattage). I imagen a 1050Ti might fare better with power draw on PCIE3.0.

  • any gaming graphics cards that will fit and the psu can power?

    • +2

Honestly not worth it, you'll be limited to Small Form Factor cards that are weak and expensive.
      Don't buy this for gaming.

      • +12

You'd be surprised how capable these machines can be as budget gaming rigs. They'll generally support a low-profile GT 1030 or GTX 1050 without issue, and some of them will work with a low-profile GTX 1050 Ti, providing the motherboard can supply all 75W to the PCIe slot (which isn't always a guarantee on these kinds of machines).

A low-profile GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 Ti from Gigabyte, for example, isn't any more expensive than a standard card is either, and you're getting performance equivalent to a 4 or 5-year old flagship graphics card like the GTX 680 or HD 7970. More than enough for playing most games at 1080p at medium settings, often higher if you're playing some slightly older stuff or less demanding games.

The i5-3570 is probably comparable to one of the new Ryzen 3 processors, which are available for $20-$50 less than this deal, but you're only getting a processor at that point and still need a motherboard, RAM, a power supply, a case, and storage.

You're clearly not going to get chart topping performance, but for ~$360-$420 for the prebuilt PC and a graphics card, I wager you'd be hard pressed to find a more complete budget gaming system that's as simple to put together, or as small as one of these. However, if you've got the money then I'd definitely be recommending just building your own system with new parts that allows you to customise everything to suit your needs.

        • -6

I feel like if putting in a graphics card doubles the value of your PC, you're gaming wrong lol

        • @Blitzfx:

Nope, most of the time, somewhere around half the budget on the GPU is not a bad rule of thumb if you want gaming performance.

        • @ItsMeAgro:
Seems like really bad value. I wouldn't go buy a $1k GPU when it'll be out done in a year or so. Better to buy the mid-range that has about 80% performance of the best in the line for about 1/3-1/2 the price.

        • @Blitzfx:

Yeah, most people seem to go with more of an all-rounder PC, and some people - especially old guys like me - grew up with PC budgets starting at 2k.

But such a high budget is a long way away from the sweet spot of value, these days.

And just for gaming performance, the GPU matters most, so spending, say $400 on the GPU and $400 on everything else will give you better gaming performance than $600 on the PC and $200 on the GPU.

    • -3

any gaming graphics cards that will fit and the psu can power?

Check out the post made five minutes above yours.

It'll only take a card like the Quadros.

      • +1

        1050Ti seems to work..

    • +3

I am runing PUBG with a 9020 sff and a 1050 ti low profile graphic card, the fps is at least 50 when you have low settings. This 9010 has a similar PSU so I am sure 1050 ti low profile card will work. And you can use the same ebay code to buy a 1050 ti low profile card.

      • +1

Since the update I’m getting average 45-60 FPS on low settings with ultra draw distance. 1050ti running a dream.

Also running 16gb patriot 1333 sector 7 ram, the heat sinks made it a nightmare to get in but it went in fine.

Reseated heatsink with Noctua nt-h1, thinner spread and temps no longer breaking past 70. Running this for past 4 weeks no issues.

Did a couple of mods, replace some fans, but best to go with the Sunon maglevs. Adapters for standard pwm to dell 5pins giving me issues

    • +1

1050ti works an absolute treat in mine

      • Hey mate I just bought one of these and am going to put a low profile 1050 Ti in mine. Is yours still running good?

        • Yeah still running just fine after several months, have had zero issues, great gaming solution for so little spend!

        • @kingsleym98: Is your PSU the standard 240W? Trying to decide whether I should upgrade to a 450W PSU for the 1050ti card, if 240W is good enough I wont bother… thoughts? haha thanks!

        • @mikool10:
Just had a geeze and it's the standard 240W, rated as 80 plus gold too which I had no idea of either, the 1050ti really is the opposite of power hungry though, really happy with the card

    • +1

GT1030 Should be OK, Only 30w, no need to upgrade the PC power supply.

    • Why "yuck"? A computer is a computer??

      • -3

i have to deal with these computers. they don't get treated well. these are refurbs.

        • +9

          "don't get treated well"?

Are they dropped or? How do you not treat a desktop PC "well"? I'm sorry- I don't get this comment is all. Where I live, there's a MS certified refurb place (volunteers) who reinstall for low-income/pensioners.

I always refer people to them. They have business-grade units & are quite nice for the cost.

          Can you clarify your experience?

        • +11

Wouldn't they literally sit on a desk for most of their life doing word/excel/outlook?

          Not exactly a hard life.

        • +2

today i learnt computers should be treated like pets

        • @Geekomatic: they sit sideways, get knocked over, are constantly on, rarely get cleaned virtually or physically. ymmv

        • @Geekomatic:

No, they can't, because they're having a whinge.

        • +2

I live in Adelaide and there's an auction place off Torrens Road, Woodville North, that sells old government computers without HDDs, and I have bought a few cheap SFF computers from them over the years with no issues at all. I don't know what you mean they don't get treated well. If anything, I would rather buy ex government computers than from private sellers as the likelihood of a horny teenager watching (mod: inappropriate comments removed) is almost zero.

    great libreELEC/Kodi box?

    • Nah, overkill. Just get a Raspberry Pi, thats what Im using.

    • +4

Get a S905[X] box for LireElec. <$50, silent and low power.

    • No HDMI so you have to pay extra for annoying dongles or a SFF GPU.

      • +5

just use a displayport to HDMI cable.

    • buy a $45 AUD s905x chipset based box from an ebay vendor, install LibreElec and you're set. I recommend the Mini M8S II model of boxes, I have 3 and they seem to have the better support due to sheer numbers in use.

  • +1

lol this all sounds familiar… kinda like my idea from the forum?

  • +1

Would the integrated graphics card in he HP Compaq 8000 Elite be okay for watching x264 videos ?

  • Would be interested to see if this is any good at exporting video faster in Adobe premiere :))

      Virtual downvote for insufficient quantity.

    good for a plex server?

    • Yes, mine runs Plex server no problem.

  • +3

    This any good for zwift?

    • yes, running zwift on a 990. works a treat.

  • +2

Am using one of these as my NVR for the home cameras.

Not much space inside but can install a proper HDD and wedge a SSD between the motherboard and the power supply. Need a long Sata cable and additional power cable that breaks out for main HDD and SATA. Seperate power cable for DVD drive.

Motherboard has 3x sata but only 2x power so need a power splitting cable if too want to keep powering the DVD drive. 3rd SATA needs to be unlocked via BIOS I believe.

Very quiet and can't hear then fan. Does it's job well :)

    • Thanks for the heads up, grabbed a SATA power splitter here for $2.95 delivered: http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/SATA-15pin-Hard-Disk-Power-Male-to-…

      • That's the same or similar I got last time. You will prob need a long SATA cable if you wish to install an SSD and small fingers to push it into the cavity between the motherboard and where the case has some slack.

You may wish to remove the RAM first. It's really tight but it fit for me.

  • From the descriptions in the negative feedback this may not be the bargain you thought it was. With a refurb like this you're talking about an office machine that may have had a hard life for 3 or 4 years. At the very least the hard drive may be close to its used-by date. I would want to at least be able to address problems I found on receipt of it. Personally I wouldn't risk it despite the tempting price.

    • +5

Personally I'm not sure I would describe it as an 'office machine that may have had a hard life' because these aren't exactly like car rentals..

If it was an office machine it has likely:

      • Only been used during office hours
      • Even less use if it was on a manager's desk if you think about meetings
      • Even less use if it turns out they also have a laptop
      • It has run 'demanding' applications like.. MS Word, MS Excel and Powerpoint…
      • It has sat in an office environment - climate controlled, relatively clean and so on, rather than a factory or even a home bedroom..

You're definitely right about things like the hard drive may well end up failing and that's certainly the first thing I'd think about replacing if you wanted performance (with a SSD) but as to the rest.. I'd suggest it's well worth a punt

      • -1

I'm a software developer. I've had machines that were similar. My machines have tended to be on 24/7 for support for the years they are running. Even if a manager is at a meeting, that machine is still running and the business still runs updates etc.

        • Yes, but having a machine running at an even temperature, voltage and in a generally reasonable office environment is not my idea of a 'hard life'.

Having a machine sitting running 24/7 but mostly idle, compared to a gaming machine in a house that may be flogged for a few hours every day..

It's a fair point that office machines do get used but they are rarely flogged (and perhaps software developers are the exception there..)

    • For what it's worth, I head no issues with them. Their stock comes and goes quickly, so bargains to be had if you're patient.

      • like i said you can get these elsewhere at a better price, that are ex-govt and big business.

        • +1

If you post a negative vote, you should generally post a link to a cheaper priced product.
I just did a search on eBay for a cheaper product including postage and this was the cheapest that came up.

          Refer voting guidelines

          Appropriate uses of negative vote

          Cheaper price elsewhere
Mention store or URL and price making sure to include shipping.

        • +1

I was being polite. Based on this response your comment is reported for invalid negative vote.

    • I bought one of these yesterday morning, dispatched yesterday with expected delivery Monday 21st so unless it doesn't work a person can't expect much more from an eBay seller

  • Purchased it, I'm going to hook it up with the 8TB external Seagate drive running Plex off of it, I think it should be alright

  • +1

    Crazy cheap!

  • Could I put a decent hour in this and use it as Steam gaming box for my tv?

*Edit: I guess not it's out of stock haha, and yeah read comments about the GPU situation for these.

    Sold out

It looks to have > 10 available at the moment

      • cheers

My main machine died but I don't want to build a new PC till Coffee lake comes out.

I'll probably buy one and throw a 1050ti LP in it. I can get one from FutuOnline for 212.

So $412 for a gaming capable PC is pretty good and later I can throw it in the lounge room as a Video/Dolphin/Steam box.

    • Could go for Ryzen

    • Msy and scorptec well the gigabyte version of the 1050ti for about 215-219, if it’s not on sale At futu

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

Perfect timing as a relative needed a new workhorse for email, web surfing and other mundane things.

Purchased one of these about 2 hours ago and a new Intel 240GB SSD and 3.5" to 2.5" Adaptor to slot into it.

    • 3.5" to 2.5" Adaptor to slot into it.

If it's not going to be moved much, and it's for someone you know, you can get away with just gaffer-taping or cable-tying the SSD down.

      • Or chewing gum?

    • I would recommend the plastic dual 2.5 adapters, as the pins can be a bit too big for pre drilled holes and you might need to widen the holes a bit. I had to in mine

  • Anyone know if 1050 or 1050ti is better? 1050 is 130USD on amazon shipped and 1050ti is 160USD shipped. Is it worth the extra money?

    • TI cards are better.

    • the ti has double the VRAM, deff worth it, picking up my 1050ti on saturday to install into the one I bought.

  • I reckon some of these would still have some life left, our office usually stores PCs for ages before getting rid of them. We have some PCS at vacant desks… also its crazy what they replace for. I have a 9 month old i5 8gb ram 120gb SSD laptop, which IT wanted to replace to upgrade to 64 bit windows. Too much work doing the upgrade, may as well get a new one they said.

    • Lol, why couldnt the it guy just custom install Windows 64bit. It isnt hard. Sounds like they just want the newest laptops haha or the it guys a silly head. And what's going on with my format!?

  • +1

Cheers OP, purchased. Might set up a Plex server or something similar. 7 remaining!

    • I'm thinking of offloading Emby server from Gen8 to this machine.
Alternatively, put an GTX 1050Ti in it and it will handle transcoding and playing 4K HDR with ease, as a server or as a HTPC.

      • How are you managing storage? Was thinking of a bigger internal drive, but usb3 may be sufficient..

        • Got a Synology and a Gen8 as storage servers.

  • +1

Out of stock now. Hopefully stock is replenished.

  • +4

We will try and update stocks once all orders have been processed, we also have a few pallets comming off hold so hopefully it should be a decent amount.

It's a public holiday here in Brisbane today, we are aiming to have everyones orders out by Friday at the latest.

  • +3

I have just updated the listing with another 45 units.

    • Thanks! Got one!
