Bought 2 last time, they are a good bit of kit.

    • Good to stop the Ninja down the bottom of the site from getting in.

  • +11

Damn! Bought 2 in the last week for my daughter and sent the first order to the wrong address. Both were $9.95. Renters should buy these. My daughter had her mother visit and a tradesman turned up at the rental while she was naked getting changed in the living room (after sleeping on the couch) and he just let himself in with the key the Real Estate agent gave him. Worst Real Estate agents ever…they have a 2.6 Google rating. She now has one on her bedroom door at night and will be putting the other on the front door whenever she is home. She took one when she went traveling in India also. They are a great little investment at full price. This is definitely a bargain.

      thanks for the review

      • +2

        You are welcome.

    • +8

We use them all the time when travelling. Housekeeping always seems to try and open the door when you are not quite ready for them!! Stops them every time. :)

      • +5

Don’t get me started… Stayed at a hotel a few weeks ago with my girlfriend. We were err busy so I told housekeeping to come back later .

I don’t know if they didn’t hear or didn’t understand or WHAT but yeah they walked in and quickly walked out.

      • same this happened to me. was taken away for my birthday a few years ago, got hit with the flu like a mack truck on day one
put up the DnD sign on the door, tried to lock it, housekeeping still just walked right on in. Think i'll get one..

    • +3

Jesus. You've talked me into it, I'm buying three of them.

    • -3

      Asl? ;)

    • +1

She can make a complaint about the real estate agent and on the terms of the lease.
There is no reason a real estate agent should be giving a tradie a key on a rented house. Possession of the house is that of the tenants, they need to give notice of the visit, and coordinate with the tenant about gaining access.

Imagine if she wasn't home, that tradie could have stolen stuff and snooped around without knowledge. Its breach of contract, tenancy legislation (depends on state), and probably even trespass or nuisance.

      • That was just a small taste of the failures of the real estate agent which were duly reported. I believe the authority has ordered she live rent free until all the repair issues are addressed. She can't lock the sliding door to the balcony among many other issues. Looking at the rental laws in Qld (where she is) there are some circumstances where access can be gained in an emergency without prior authority but this was just a chippy doing some maintenance not a plumber fixing a broken pipe spewing sewage down 10 floors.

    OP's username checks out.

  • Is this a normal price on your site or a deal?

    • +1

      It is a deal :)

  • Grabbed 2, thanks

  • cool. bought 5 for future use. thanks rep

  • looks good, grabbed one to test

  • Got one.

  • +4

wow i did zero typing to make the purchase…everything was sent via paypal…felt super weird…

    • .. and then it thanks you by name when you're done. It's unsettling but pleasant.

  • Thanks!
I'm renting, and I swear I heard someone open the door once.
I have a camera now, but this will be the cherry on-top! :)

    • with the door now locked you could say their lack of a cherry on top ;)

      • +2

Yes, I can keep my cherry

  • +1

This is perfect timing, going to Japan in a few weeks and this’ll be really handy, thank you!

    • +11

haha Japan crime capital of the world

      • Lol, I didn’t mean Japan to be the main part of it, more just travel and staying in an Airbnb and a few expensive items

        • From the video it looks like it's only for when you're actually in the room… it just kind of jams the door

        • @witsa: Yes. You can only use it when you are inside the door you want to bar. It's more about personal security although you won't keep anyone out who genuinely wants in it's just they will literally have to break the door down.

        • +4

Also depends on which direction the door opens. Some room doors open outwards, depends on how much the builder had been drinking that day.

    • +1

This won't stop ninjas, they are too skilled at the art of sneaking.

  • Address is picked up from Paypal?

    • Indeed.

      • +1

Why more shops don't use this information is bizarre… but I suppose development costs money.
Perhaps the old PayPal APIs didn't provide the address

        • +1

The first time it happened to me I hadn't updated my PayPal address in a long time, Gearbest sent my $2 headphones down the road. Couldn't pay me $2 to walk down the road mate.

But I see it a lot these days, seems pretty common.

  • +2

they need to add some kind of hook system that you can use to hang it on the doorknob when not in use.(and for the latch to be connected to the main part)

  • +1

OP they are ok but that little lock thing is so easy to lose. With a small redesign you could probably make it always attached?

    • -1

Keep them in your toolbox maybe?

      • I put mine in a toolbox but now couldn't find it!

  • +1

OP - where is the video of it in action that you mention in the description?

  • +1

Its $9.99 now? Is there a code to get it at $5.99

  • +1

Oh i just found it under special offers!!

  • +3

Worth it for the second last picture

  • bought 2, may come in handy someday :)

  • +5

Hot dang how old is this website?

    • It's got picture frames, 3d buttons, comic sans, textured backgrounds, random layouts the full works!

      • +1

If you're quick enough, the text at the bottom loads as dancing script before changing to comic sans.

    • +1

Old enough to remember that these were once made in Australia…

  • -3

i have 2 of these… but it feels like the middle tab bit, that goes into the door jam would be easily bendable if somone was pushing forcefully on a door.. as in 3 4 big pushes, door would bust open

    • +1

Do you really expect a cheap tiny piece of metal to be indestructible?

      • -5

what a SECURITY door lock that everyone here is raving about?…yes, yes i do

    • +2

You do realize that most doors, locked or not, are able to be kicked in by a man with a bit of mass to him right? I think protection against someone barging themselves against a door is a bit beyond the scope of a $6 piece of metal.

  • +10

    Bought one.

You're right that the latch things is very easy to lose. Thats kind of a design defect and need to be addressed in future.

The latch should be built into the design and there should be a small lanyard which goes around the door handle so you dont lose it or just for keeping it there for reuse.

    • +1

      Agreed

    • +1

Dude. Zip lock bags… I have a box of every size in the cupboard. I never lose a piece of anything… just the whole thing when I forget where I put the bag.

  • Yessss, was waiting like 2 months for this deal to come. It had been so long since your last deal I thought you would stop posting this deal.

Won't add to cart on chrome but worked fine on internet explorer.

  • Got one ages ago, never used it…

    • +1

      So… they never came?

      • Its sitting in my drawer, every hotel, motel room or what ever will most likely have locks already…

        • +1

Ummm…you seem to be missing the point. If you have a chain on the inside maybe it's redundant but a lock can be opened by anyone who has a key or the skill to jimmy it. These block the door from being pushed open even if someone can unlock it. It's peace-of-mind that someone can't slip into your room while you are asleep, getting changed, watching porn…whatever. It's like an easy to carry version of the chair under the door knob.

We use these to keep the kids outs of our bedroom, unfortunately it works too well and has resulted in more children.

    • You could have avoided this situation only if you had checked out this deal…

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224329

    • +4

They should put a warning on these things - this happened to us too!!!

On the other hand, I can confirm that these are strong enough to withstand the force of a very enthusiastic 10 year old.

  • Got 2. Cheers

  • +1

You can make one yourself with fork

    • How do you get the death and vice and hammer and saw if you are in a hotel?

    • Why didn't he just use the lock on the door handle?☺

      • It doesn't replace the lock. It just stops entry if the lock fails, is unlocked by a key or doesn't work. None of the internal doors in my house have locks and this is a hell of a lot easier to use than dragging heavy furniture in front of the door.

  • Got one. Thank you.

  • +1

I hope your product is better than your website lol

  • my ex stole mine, i think i might need to get another! no door locks at all on this rental property, not even on the shared bathroom

    • You were using it wrong, could have kept her out!

  • Potato

  • Ordered. Thanks OP.

Looks like a good idea, especially when travelling…

Looking at the video, it would sure help if this had a string / lanyard to prevent losing the pin - I'm thinking to drill a hole in the pin, and add my own.

  • I guess just hope you dont have an emergency in the room and require someone to come in. Although, as said, a burly enough person can probably break it down

  • +1

Got 4 , thanks op . Good product

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but just wondering how much advantageous this is compared to a door stopper from a $2 shop?

  • great simple idea

    Thanks

  • 2 ordered, thanks

  • TY ordered 1

  • -1

OP should be clear about this deal, it is clearance of nearly obsolete stock according to their website -

"We are currently developing a new and improved version of our very popular Temporary Door Lock. The design is almost ready but now we need the funds for the manufacture of moulds and samples before we can market them worldwide."

    https://www.qicklock.com/innovation

    • It's been years and the 'first' design was still *patent pending'.

      Gonna be a while…

    • We have spent the last few years on developing and testing different prototypes.
This version will be around for a long while yet while we try and get the new one right.
So no its not obsolete stock. :)

  • Bought one of this a few years ago, after moving house the "latch/key/bolt" bit was missing & it became useless, no spare part you'll have to get a new set.

  • +3

hmmm might grab one of these so I can poke the mrs without worrying about the kids..

    • True, however an old fashioned hook or hotel style chain on the door (if you own the house), or wedge (if its a rental) is far more convenient.

    • Caution may result in more kids with a greater combined strength to open the door

  • You can make your own portable door lock using a dinner fork.
    See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lNFJt10w1E

  • Had one of these I used for years, great little gadget. lost the locking piece though. Just bought another 3. Thanks

FYI you can do the same thing with a fork and a knife if you're in a pickle or forget it at home, like overseas or on a trip and need to do this quickly . bend the fork so it fits into the lock as per above video and use a knife or something similar to slide it in to stop door. Don't mean to take you away from buying these, they're great, just a bit of FYI for the knowledge bank. Safety first!

  • This could not have come at a better time. My door striker/plate are badly aligned and the door gets pushed open by my cat very easily. I'm hoping this sorts that problem out.

  • Bought one, Tried to test the durability.
The steel to hold the door was bent with normal door push

  • Any estimate on when these will be shipped out? Hoping to get it before end of coming week!

    • All orders recieved up to Sunday night will be shipped on Monday. Standard mail deliveries with Australia Post are now apparently only delivered three business days a week so it may take a little longer than their estimated delivery times in some area :( Thanks everyone for your support.

  • Just got mine today, quality stuff, thanks!
