    Ridiculously expensive

      • +13

        You think

Yes. Way too expensive for what you are getting.

Also, can they record to your own device or are you required to subscribe?

        • Records to Synology NAS. Can subscribe to cloud if wanted.

      • +1

I hope it could accept and sign the parcel for you. Otherwise I would get Ring LOL

        meh

xiaomi homekit + xiaofang camera does the same thing for less than $100

        • -5

Can it open an electric lock?
Can it integrate with a smart lock?
          Is it reliable?

That's OK. Lots of our customers are upgrading from a xiaomi system or similar.

          @allanphillips:

Why the negative votes for the person above? Its fair that he can point out what he thinks are the pluses for his product.

I probably wouldn't buy this product it doesn't seem worth the price to me. I have a different setup (using cbus, and ring) that does very similar however, this still could be a bargain for the quality and features compared to other products.

        • @allanphillips: why does it need to? google home/alexa does that for me via a smart door lock from yale/kwikset/assaabbloy more secure anyway

        • @allanphillips:I'm guessing none of your customers are upgrading from Xioami stuff.

        • @supabrudda: Well you're kind of right… they don't actually have a doorbell. The camera and homekit does not present a button for your visitor to press, or a way for you to communicate with them.

Having said that, some of my customers have complained about Xiaomo in general. Specifically - always need to buy an Australian adaptor, some notifications come up in Chinese, terrible speaker quality.

    Price in title please

    • Sorry, added.

So how come it says $570 on the web page?

        • -1

          Different model

My postie would have carded and gone before I even fired the app up. Wouldn't pay that sort of money for it anyway……

      • +4

or have a 90 year old postman

        • -4

How long does it take you to get to the door? quicker than opening an app?

        • +1

Probably about the same… IF the phone is near me at the time. I don't have the phone in my hand ready to click on an app at a moment's notice most of the time.

        • @btiltman:

I have the same issue with my postman but now he knows and he waits a moment to see if i will answer on the ring door bell. I can then open the garage for him and he signs on my behalf.

  • +3

my door bell cost me $49

    • +3

my door bell was included in the house price

      • +2

Can you answer it when you're not at home?

        • +32

i dont answer it when im at home, so why would i answer it when im not home?

        • +1

@tuzii: To check who is at your house. To let them in if you know them. To organise a time for them to come back. To tell them you are at home but can't come to the door if they look dodgy. To call the police if it looks like they're going to break in anyway.

        • +1

@allanphillips: that technology is so ripe for hacking. Mind boggling for me that people expose their properties like this.

        • +5

          @allanphillips:
huh, your sales techniques are really bad.

        • @wolfshooter: Legitimate concern. Other brands have been exposed to have security issues. Doorbird is secure.

        • -4

@tuzii: I can appreciate your viewpoint @tuzii. I didn't expect such negativity and trolling. I thought if people weren't interested they would skip on to the next thing. I was going to do nothing, but then decided to engage with comments that were wrong or ill-informed, by just being direct and stating facts. Doesn't seem to be working out that well! Lol

        • +4

          @allanphillips:
heres an idea; post a deal.

        • -1

          @tuzii: I believe it is

        • +2

@allanphillips: I usually check my security cameras when I want to see who is at my house

        • @allanphillips: Pentagon, Whitehouse, FBI, CIA all thought they were secure as well.

          Security claims are BS.

If someone hacks this, your front door is open = no insurance claim.

      • +1

On which the previous owner / the builder has jacked up the price 200% hehehe

  • WOW

  • How is this a bargain? Why would I pay this outrageous price instead of buying a much cheaper Ring?

      • How is unlocking your frint door ovee the internet secure?

        How are updates/patches rolled out?
Who checks your source code (is it open source so the world can check it's secure?)
How long will patches/updates be pushed out for this device?
When it fails, do the door unlock or remain locked?
What sort of insurance do you offer in the event of a failure which leads to loss?

Only about $500 more than ring 2 https://ring.com/video-doorbell-2 It would want to be streets better than the cheaper doorbird model "The DoorBird D101 delivers sharp 720p live video and detailed night vision, but it doesn't record video and it's the bulkiest, priciest video doorbell we've seen."- from pc mag.

  • +2

I'm sorry Dave, I can not do that.

    $820 Delivered Here.

Not the cheapest, looks like it's an everyday price also.

    • Different model. D202 is cheaper. (They have the wrong picture for the wrong product)

Happy to offer the same discount for this model which will bring it down to $801 including free shipping. Stock arriving in a few days. Let me know and I'll create a code.

  • +2

As well as the ridiculous price, its aesthetic looks are awful. Looks like something you'd see in a prison.

    • +1

Most modern houses that have the front gate door bell have a similar hardened look.

I hope it looks like this because its made out of a tough metal.

  • +2

Lot of people are ragging on this. I looked into these a year or two and the price is in the range for the feature set. Its not really a good comparison to a Ring device. I have one of those and it doesn't do everything this does and its not hardened against weather like this one is. Ring is good for what it does but its not comparable to this product.

    • +3

So…your advice is don't knock it until you've tried it?

    • +1

I agree, I checked out what was available earlier this year.

These are expensive as doorbells, but so are all of the "smart" doorbells. And they have all have slightly different design decisions - some will work over WiFi vs Ethernet, some use batteries vs AC or POE, some record to NVR vs the cloud, some are all upfront cost vs subscription plans, and so on.

      It is what it is.

  • I could be interested in a couple of the units to replace a Ness Smartbell system (one Door, one Gate).

Looking for something that can do:
    - Ethernet Port for data & POE Powered
    - Support Relay for powered door strike and gate open/close
    - Support at least 10 Accounts/Devices
    - Store data locally on a NAS not on "the cloud" and a quality Web App to manage the accounts / view delete etc
    - Quality Andriod and iOS client apps
    - All Apps must support both Door and Gate devices (how does it do this?)

    Other features I'd like
    - NFC support for Tap to open the door strike for both Andriod and iOS instead of using the app
    - Ability to page between Client Apps (eg not just to the HW stations)

    Thanks

    • Hi jmone,

The Doorbird does all of the above.

Looking for something that can do:
      - Ethernet Port for data & POE Powered - YES
      - Support Relay for powered door strike and gate open/close - YES
      - Support at least 10 Accounts/Devices - YES
      - Store data locally on a NAS not on "the cloud" and a quality Web App to manage the accounts / view delete etc - YES to NAS (Synology), NO to web app.
      - Quality Andriod and iOS client apps - YES
      - All Apps must support both Door and Gate devices (how does it do this?) - YES. If you have multiple Doorbirds you have a list in the app. Select one and you see the video and can unlock the door/gate attached to that unit. Select the other unit and the key icon unlocks the door/gate attached to the 2nd unit.

      Other features I'd like
      - NFC support for Tap to open the door strike for both Andriod and iOS instead of using the app - No NFC at this stage, but some of the newer more expensive models have RFID cards and fobs
      - Ability to page between Client Apps (eg not just to the HW stations) - Not completely sure what your asking on this one.

      • Thanks - follow up Q:
        - How do you manage the setup of the Units if there is not a Web Server on the unit themselves?
        - With the Ness you can page/call between the clients (eg make a call using the app from one phone/tablet to another - eg the Apps are aware of each other and act like room stations)
        - Shame about the lack of phone based NFC (I know of some that work with Andriod but none with iOS)
        - Is it only the Synology NAS or any share?
        - Is there a flush mount and surface mount models?

        • The setup is done via the app. From the app you scan the Qcode that comes in the box and the app connects to the Doorbird. All settings are then managed in the app.

Sorry, calling between apps is not yet supported

I believe they are working on phone NFC

Currently supported are QNAP, Synology NAS; and Hikvision and Lilin NVR's.

D101, D101S, D201 (this deal) are all surface mount. D202 is flush mount.

  • +1

    no deal

  • What is the difference between d201 and d202?

    • Thanks.

      D201 is surface mount
      D202 is flush mount

  • +3

    what a joke

    $800 for a consumer-market doorbell is ridiculous.

There may be a small market for such things, but it ain't here.

  • Bargain…. Bought 50
