  • Would this be better than my samsung monitor that I bought 5 years ago for $300? Don’t have the model name with me

    • +12

without a model name or number we wouldnt be able to say at all to be honest.

      • Just wanted to know if monitors have generally improved over the last 5 years

        • +7

          yes

    • +45

Oh I know the ones. Samsung sold them in 2012 for $300.
Yeah, this one is way better.

      • +4

no i think the one he means is the Samsung $300 one from 2012. it was much better than this one. the picture especially but also the screen was good.

        • +6

No, I think he means the 2012 Samsung one that could be bought for $300.
In which case although it was an improvement on the one Samsung sold in 2012 for $300, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the Samsung $300 one from 2012.

    • +18

Making a recommendation without the model number is tricky. But I enjoy a challenge. As you are an OzBargainer, you obviously bought one of the bargains on OzBargain rather than throw money in the face of the local Harvey Norman sales rep like some normal person.

Thus I can conclude that with with $300 you would have bought something at least as fancy as the $259 24" Samsung PLS LED S24A850DWk 1920x1200 5ms listed on OzBargain just over 5 years ago.

The $259 monitor has 1920x1200 pixels rather than the paltry 1920x1080 pixels of the monitor in this ad. Thus this monitor would be a downgrade from your existing monitor.

It is elementary, my dear Watson!

    Panel type is VA:
VA panels provide a good middle ground with better-than-IPS refresh rates and contrast levels, but have worse viewing angles and color production, although generally still better than TN

    • Do VA panels suffer from glare

      • +4

Not related - glare depends on if it's a glossy finish or a matte finish.

      • +1

I dont think so but keep away from nuts as most have allergies.

  • Thanks. Been looking for a cheap 2nd monitor for ages now.

    • +1

Your gonna put different model monitors side by side?

      • Yep. Previously used an ipad 2 as a 2nd monitor (using Duet), so I think I'll cope ok with this.

        • +1

Just curious to know what you do on the ipad while using it as a second monitor??

        • +2

@Shopaholicdesi: Look up an app called duet. Pretty straight forward, just install the required software, connect ipad to pc via charging cable, and Windows / MacOS treats it as a second monitor.

  • Trying to pay through Paypal with Pickup as delivery option. Attempted twice but ended up with error "Status of an item in the cart has changed". Anyone facing the same.

    • I did the same but through CC. Tried through paypal and it went through.

    • +1

JB doesnt take amex without surcharge. If your paypal is hooked up to your amex card then it wont go through :(

edit: tried through mastercard, not working D:

      • I'm not sure this is true. The company have no idea what card you are paying with when you use PayPal.

        • Strange because I have had issues with payments going through where AmEx isn’t accepted. That’s why I need to add a MasterCard to PayPal as well 😥

    • Yeah I got that as well, through all options (Paypal, Visa Checkout and credit card directly). Just emptied my cart and started again, went straight through without issue after that.

    • Tnaks for replies everyone. I tried CC directly (that I avoid usually) and it went through.

    21.5"

What is this, a monitor for ants?

    • +5

At only 1920x1080, why would you want anything bigger? By today's 4K standards, it's low-res.

I have no regrets about purchasing a 21" six years ago on the cheap because it only had VGA (D-sub) input. But this monitor now costs about half that and has HDMI in.

  • +1

Thanks. About time I replaced my other monitor.

Any difference to LG monitor LG 24" Full HD IPS Dual HDMI LED Monitor @ https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-24-full-hd-ips-dual-hdmi-…
    Apart from Screen and Money
    Thanks

    • +7

      Display and Cash

      • +3

this is like saying whats the difference between a $20k Corolla and a $40k Audi A3…

        • +2

          Corolla

        • I know what is carola-way with!

    • +1

I think that deal is not as good as the LG 21:9 25" Ultrawide 25" Full HD IPS LED monitor which Kogan is selling for $189 on the Click Frenzy. I just bought it.

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-25-219-2560x1080-full-hd-ult…

      • +1

But with Amex offer it comes to $98.

        • Well then that's a great deal. :)

        • +2

          What Amex offer?

        • C'mon, dont let us hangin', what offer is this?

        • -3

SOrry guys haven't read the messages. So its Amex harvey norman offer. Spend $400 get 100 back. So I bought Nutribullet 1200w + LG Screen + $45 worht of something = $402
So I will get 100 back. Nutribullet 1200 is for $159 (The cheapest) + Complementary 2 protein mix
So technically this screen cost me $98. hope that helps.
          Cheers

        • +1

          @jag3932:

But you have to spend $400 to get that. So on its own this monitor doesn't qualify for it.

        • Yes I am afraid.

  • would it be better than BenQ E2400? I find the colours washed out and it looks a bit blurry compared to my 14" FHD IPS laptop screen. I guess IPS really makes all the difference..

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

I misread, I like the word Free in the title

    • Free is the first word that comes to ozbargainers' minds.

  • I have the same panel but in the 28 inch sale a few months back!

    does the job nicely

  • +3

Apparently just bought a monitor for $0.00 just before the site crashed

  • +1

If I had a use for it then I'd be all over it.

  • Is this the same but just a smaller size than this deal?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/323976

Also, if I was to connect my Nintendo Switch to this how would I get audio?

    • 3.5mm audio output

  • Any good for gaming?

  • -1

it would be nice to have 24" deal at the same price $$$$

    • +5

It would also be nice to have a 2017 BMW at the same price. :)

    • +3

Sit slightly closer and the 21.5 will look exactly the same as a 24 did.

Jeez, back in the day I was so proud of my $10,000 21" monitor at work. Kids don't know how good they've got it.

  • Can I use google chrome cast with it? (I mean audio output)

  • Argh! I need to hold out for the 28" version of this monitor.

  • +2

    "Flicker Free"
Huh? I thought flickering died with CRTs.

    • +1

doesnt that make it flicker free ?

      • +3

Ah, like how you could say it's "Color" or "Flatscreen" or "Electric"

    • +2

Nope, some monitors use PWM to strobe the backlight to reduce brightness.

  • +1

the price for this sale of cheapo small monitors doesnt seem to have changed in a while, i'd kind of expect better monitors being offered at this price or a lower price

  • +5

Just picked one up in store, still marked at full price but scans in at $99. Even the salesman was surprised 😂

  • Great price for a decent VA panel.

  • Just got mine, now I'm playing the game off connect a MacBook to it and run the screen like normal with laptop shut.

    • +1

      Is this 2010?

      • +1

It's how I'm going to use this, my wife can plug her work Mac into the HDMI port and type on big screen and keyboard. Any HELPFUL tips?

        • +1

Just got it, works exactly as I wanted it to.

        • @2jzzzz:
          Jzzzz got it to work.

  • +2

Got 2 to mount them on arack. Was lurking for a cheap and decent monitor

  • Cheers for this deal, will hopefully be a good upgrade from my reliable Dell UltraSharp 2007FP
    http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-2007fp/pd

  • +1

Just picked 2 up in store. They "said" it has 60hz refresh rate after a bit of searching so very happy!! Thx OP

  • +2

I do like BenQ monitors. Quite reliable I have found.

    • +2

      You've monitored they're quite reliable.

  • Alright I just picked mine up from the store. Pleasantly surprised by the quality, though I am stepping up from my old HP 2159m :P

Definitely a good monitor. I'll update my comment after trying out some games with it. I might even see if CRU can force Freesync on to this bugger.

  • Okay in simple layman's terms, are these good monitors?

  • Thanks OP, I just bought 2. Hopefully they are in the local store so I can pick them up tomorrow.

  • +1

Just got a pair, but I'm not sure if it's worth the upgrade really. The only things I'm missing are audio out and extra HDMI ports.

  • +2

    I bought one!

    Thanks

    VERY good price…

I wanna cry!!!! Its my first time I will get one of this BRAND monitor !!

    :D :D

    • How good is the price? Like $99 good?

  • Which monitor is better?

21.5" Lenovo T2224D FHD IPS Monitor also for $99 but IPS and not the lesser VA.

It does have DisplayPort instead of HDMI though as well.

3 year and warranty vs 1 year for the BenQ.

    • Shipping is $17 and this one has pick up. 99 vs 99 + 17

but fuuck me I want a second monitor with a Display port… better than my old ass VGA with a DVI dongle.

      • Computer alliance has pickup if you're in Brisbane.

  • Expired now :(
