  • you can only use this in airports where there are qantas clubs correct? ie. no partner airline lounges?

    • You need to be on a QF flight number to access Qantas or partner airlines lounges.
JQ must count as we got access to the Melbourne intl lounge when we flew to Japan last time.

it looked good at $399, but then i realised that's just the joining fee?

        so $399+$735=1,134

can't say its really worth it then unless flying A LOT.

i found (and heard) the qantas lounges to be average

priority pass is probably a better option for the short term traveller. much more affordable if you really can't stand sitting with the plebs.

tbh i don't really even care anymore.

  • if you are not travelling of QF or oneworld alliance flights… you cant' go into the lounge even if your're a club member right?

you cant' go into the lounge even if your're a club member right?

      That's correct

You can fly Jetstar and use a Qantas lounge though

I bought lifetime membership way back in the late '90's for about $1500 (I think it was) at the time. I agonised over it then but was flying all the time. They don't offer lifetime membership anymore.

Now, I rarely fly at all, thank god.

      • Wow that would have been a bargain buying lifetime membership.

Other way to achieve it is 14,000 lifetime status points gets you gold for life.

I just checked my status and am almost lifetime silver now. That means another 15 years of flying to go before I get lifetime gold 😂

      • I agonised over it then but was flying all the time

That's usually less reason to buy it cos you rack up enough status to get Gold or higher anyway. Similarly if you barely fly then it gets unused anyway.

Though $1500 for lifetime is pretty good too now that I think of it.

        • Gotta take inflation into account. $1500 did feel like a lot of money back then. Assuming an average annual inflation rate of 3% for the past 20 years, that's about $2700 of today's money.

Not sure if I would pay $2700 now for lifetime access.

      • Hah. I nearly got that as well…. as I recall annual membership was around the $70 mark per annum so I decided to pass. I also flew Ansett more frequently then….. anyone else remember Golden Wing?

This was before the whole status thing - I generally travel enough to get gold each year for free so I think I'm still ahead… agree that it sucks to do it too much for business. I know I'm travelling too much if it looks like I might get platinum (and I tend to travel cattle class, so status credits are reduced). But, pick your flights carefully and take advantage of status credit bonuses, and it's not too hard to hit gold.

        • And it was when you would get bumped to business class without asking, without being a ff member, just if you flew regularly.

        • @quog: sigh… Good times, good times…. ;-)

  • Can you bring someone in for free if you have paid Qantas club membership?

    • For International as long as he/she is traveling with you on the same flight.

For domestic, he/she does not need to be traveling.

Back in May, Qantas had 40% off sale with the following rates:

    Type Was Now
    1 yr 895 537
    2 yr 1,310 785
    4 yr 2,140 1,284

Now the website is showing normal price as:

    Type Now
    1 yr 540
    2 yr 735
    4 yr 1,850

Looks like pricing has changed, with one-off $399 introduced.

    • Why would you pay $1850 for 4 years vs $735 for 2 years?

      • Good point. No idea.

I also received the 6-month free email from Qantas… it says:

        Type, Was, Now
        2 yr, 980, 661.50
A one off join fee is payable in addition to the membership fees above.

        Their pricing don't match.
