  • Does cashrewards not work when you use a promo code?

    • That's correct, or its just me?

      • Not sure - pretty sure i'd received 1c cashback from some of those LED USB deals…maybe it explains why about 3/4 of them don't track even though i follow the recommended procedure…will have to go back and double check ;)

This is a very nice tablet n good value for the money. I bought it in the last deal n happy with it.

Can you comment on how fast this thing is for internet browsing? Eg multiple tabs (My wife haven't worked out how to close tabs). I also want to use it for educational apps for young kids.

      • +2

3GB of memory with an 8 core Snapdragon CPU - should be plenty fast.

      • +1

Very smooth. It can run demanding apps (games) quite well. One of the better processors and plenty of ram, especially for the price in the tablet realm.

      • +4

3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 625 - same chip in the Motorola 5S Plus and as fast as flagship phones from 2-3 years ago (if not better). Chrome on Android has fairly ok memory management so it should be more than capable, she won't get much better without buying something around the $400 mark (and all that will get you is an extra 1GB of ram that'll delay the inevitable a bit longer).

The one thing she will see is that too many tabs and they'll start doing refreshes when necessary, simply a limitation you'll hit without finding an android device with 16GB RAM

Big downside is the lack of OS upgrades. There's nothing stopping Lenovo updating this to Android 7 or even 8 but they haven't done it. Granted, most android devices are still on 5 or 6 so developers still target that, but in a couple of years that might change.

    • does this have micro USB or USB C?

Any deals on a good tablet with 4G?

    • Would like to know also, just for browsing not gaming

    • +1

      voyo 4g

      • Are they reliable, it's for my grandparents can't be bothered fixing it everyday if problems arise

        • Only saw the review that it is better than onda 4G

Have spent too much on 11.11 no more budget for voyo 4g toy… (cheapest 86usd)

My father using lenovo tab 2 (no 4g). He is happy with it , normal browsing and email…. not for any games

        • @edgar28:

          Thanks for reply

  • Tempted. Been waiting for a dedicated device to read mostly e-cookbooks/e-magazines off. Just wish the screen was a couple of inches bigger.

Thanks for the rec, but I feel that's overkill expenditure for my main purpose of just reading stuff.
I'm more in market for half the screen quality for half the price of an iPad.

        • +1

The FNF ifive Mini 4S is said to have a great screen (I think it may be the same one Apple uses). If battery life and clean headphone jack output aren't important it could be worth a gamble.

        • +1

@Cleremy: haven't heard of that one but I like the price point. Though again, needs an extra couple of diagonal inches to the screen and I would have bought.

        • +1

@LymeLychee: The Teclast Master T10 would tick all the boxes (10" screen with 2560 x 1600 resolution) and it was going for US$189 (AU$250) the past several days. Didn't buy it myself despite the nice price as I think I still need to work out if I can actually find a use for tablets!

Just seem to use either my phone or my desktop PC.

        • +1

@Cleremy: ah, those chinese tablets, always looks amazing on paper with high specs and photos but read reviews people will tell you issues, heat, poor camera, screen reflections, lags, cant hold charge, poor built, bad wifi, etc etc. not in particular that model brand but in general.

2560 1600 doesnt mean always good. depends who install and put together with other things inside them. and you dont know who produced the lcd panel. maybe rejected stocks from small lcd manufacturers in china.

        • +1

@Cleremy: Thanks much! I've browsed around gearbest myself but could never narrow down the range to one that fits the bill. Teclast Master T10 looks like a fit!

@dragonindespair: I'm mindful of that as well. Though in my case if I use it the way I intend to (dedicated just to display e-mags and sparsely for anything else except in emergencies) then should be worth it over "paying more for more" than I need.

agree. my phone is now 6" i think i would like my tablet to be 10", not just 8"

      • Yeah, the big phones has pretty much killed the small tablet market.

        • People will call you silly to carry 6 and 8 inches devices. Yes I know she says 2 inches makes big differences.

      • 18:9 phones can't be compared with the 16:9 or 4:3 screen. Most apps still don't support 18:9 screen, so what you're seeing on your 6" phone is the same like 5.2" phone with 16:9 ratio.

        • hmm how about watching movies/tv shows? will this 8" tablet give me much better watching experience compare with my huawei (spec 6", 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio)?

        • @planetandre do you have a screen ratio recommendation for reading pdfs, news websites, and such? No need for watching movies, that's what the TV is for. Cheers.

      • 8" is good size for casual gaming. 7" just a bit meh…. 10" good for clash type of game

  • Thanks OP. Ordered with a case for $169. Stacked with AMEX 20% off on PayPal offer so should come out at around $135 :-).

    • thats is good price hmm let me think again. where is that paypal offer
edit: not targetted, both of them

  • Oh no! I literally just bought two of the Lenovo 3 7" for $96 each. Wish I had of waiting… trying to decide if its worth returning them or not now.

    • return

    • I second that return. Bigger and higher res screen, double the on board memory, chip that is light years ahead, triple the RAM for an extra $64/tab (if you have been targeted for the paypal offer, it is only an extra $40 per tab). Well and truly worth it.

I bought one of those from Good guys a year or so ago for $80 (!), my main gripe about it is the 16:9 aspect ratio, it's narrow and images on Facebook seem to be cropped at the edges (not a huge issue, but still…). Also when playing YouTube video, the sound and picture have a slight delay, again probably not noticeable unless you run the same video side-by-side next to a laptop or another tablet.

But apart from that a "good" usable tablet and not a piece of disposable junk like a 10" Aldi tablet I tried. The front-facing speaker is handy and the screen is IPS. Touch recognition is sloppy, I found I was getting more typos than my 4" iPhone 4.

      • +1

Thanks Cleremy, You have convinced me to keep them as they are only for the kids (2 and 5yrs) and it sounds like they will do the job!

  • Price seems to have gone up to $171

    • +1

I think there were only a limited quantity at $161 and they have all sold.

  • I ordered one of these thinking i'd have it in time for a Christmas present, only just found out via chat that it won't be dispatched until 31st December !
First time ordering from GearBest and now to find something else….

    • Strange, it says "Dispatch: Ships between Nov 28 - Nov 30" for me. I've never had an issue ordering from GearBest before. I have submitted a ticket to seek confirmation regarding when it will be dispatched and will report back.

      • I'm hoping it's a mistake, i've ordered some other stuff at the same time and the ticket reply listed the items and dispatch dates and that's when i noticed 31-Dec-17 for the tablet.
Like you say it says Nov28-Nov30 on the webpage, so i'm waiting on them to reply.

        • I received a response to my ticket overnight. It says the tablet can be dispatched "Within 1-2 business days". The case I ordered at the same time is out of stock and won't be sent for "7-15 business days". They offered to exchange it for something else so I have switched to a different colour that is in stock and asked them to send ASAP.

        • This is now showing up in my account as "Packed", guessing it will be shipped tomorrow.

        • Aaaaaand my order has been shipped out.

        • +1

          @Yapapi:

Mine only got shipped after i done some complaining when their next reply was 'it's on back-order and should be in stock 2 weeks' then strangely it changed.
So it went from Dec-31, to 2 weeks then to being dispatched in 2 days! go figure..
          Hopefully DHL is quicker lol

        • +1

          @CheapGit:
Aaaaaand it has arrived. Nice work Gearbest.

        • @Yapapi:
Ah I forgot all about this thread!
After complaining the one I ordered was dispatched Saturday 25th and I got it on the following Monday.

Checked it over and packed it away again for Xmas.
Quite impressed with it considering the price paid, and comparing it with the Tab S 8.4 it's replacing.

  • Would this be a lot faster than ipad mini 2?

    • Yes
