        Dont you mean Gerry?

        • +1

          Oh yeah

    • +9

Don't bother saving any for Ruslan though (he's a Dick these days).

      • +1

Ruslan offered the most money to buy Dick.

    • +19

      Matters to whom?

      • -8

To tourists, Sydney gets much more

        • +22

Tourists can pay for their own ice cream.

        • +3

Who cares about them? I am sure Amazon doesn't see tourists as the main target

        • +36

Sydney is like fake tits. Pretty, bouncy, but not the real thing.

        • +1

          @edfoo: Triggered!

        • -1
        • +3

@edfoo: Sorry but I actually like Sydney.
You guys have a train to/from the airport, nicer seafood restaurants, ferries and double-story trains!
The only thing I really missed while I lived there was the coffee down here.

        • +1

@idonotknowwhy: Our coffee game is getting better. Plus, we don't have shitty weather all the time. ;)

        • @Munki: Nothing wrong with 4 seasons in 1 day lol. Just need to bring an umbrella and jacket with you every time you go out, no biggie.

        • +1

I'm reading this comment while on the beach at 8pm and it's still 25 and sunny.

Granted,I'm an hr away from but it's pretty awesome.

      • -5

matters to the people not in melbourne?

    • I am guessing it's because the Amazon distribution centre is based in Melbourne that's why only Melbourne gets free ice cream.

      • and the fact it will be 32 degrees in melb tomorrow

      • +1

You'd think the distribution centre would be closer to the airport… Dandenong south is 1 hr away. Am i missing something?

        • May be all the land area which is large enough around the airport is no longer available.

        • +1

@edfoo: You have vast amount of unused land in Tullamarine. Airport Dr would be the perfect location. DHL, Toll, TNT, StarTrack are all based on that road.

        • +2

It's nearly next door to a major auspost sorting centre.

        • they are building their Drone landing strip on the roof

  • What wil Amazon Australia actually sell? Could I buy an iPhone for instance?

    • +7

      Wait until Friday?

    • +2

What can you not buy? I expect their entire range should be available, except with a local fulfillment centre for locally sourced product.

      • +1

I did a Google search, found this:

One warehouse in Baltimore covers one million square feet, or roughly 23 acres

That's 92,903 m2. It's hard to imagine they've built a warehouse of that scale in Australia (hopefully they do it). I just expect they'll have a small fraction of their entire range.

        • +11

They are setting up a 24,000 m^2 centre in Dandenong South.

        • +5

The new 24,000 sqm “fulfilment centre” will be located in the Pellicano’s M2 Industry Park in Dandenong South, providing easy access to the South Gippsland Highway, Monash Highway and EastLink.

        • +5

          That's pretty big, I guess

        • +4

          @eDust:

          That's what she said.

        • +1

          @eDust: Be-er

        • @zuccs: Its 5.9 acres. Including carpark?

        • +3

          @thektrinh:
          I'd just like a coffee

        • @randomchecker: nah. Just the car park

        • @thektrinh: Co-fee?

      • +3

Probably can't buy much (in comparison to the full range) on Friday as it will apparently be a soft launch. No doubt they'll ramp up quickly though.

        • +5

Thursday afternoon is soft launch, Friday is all systems go.

        • @wallet72: oooft

      • +13

And Aussie prices … Australia tax included.
I’m a bit sceptical on the whole hoo-haa but time will tell

        • +3

I share the same thought.. I guess it will be the same as Amazon Canada compared to Amazon US prices. Big differences.

    • +2

I don't think their entire range is going to become available as yet…Apparently they are only trialing with few customers to start with as per this article - https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/11/its-official-amazon-austr…

      • That's Thursday, launch for all is Friday.

And judging by the items which have appeared and disappeared on the AU site, I think it's going to be a significant part of their entire range.

For instance Yamhama receivers - they have the RX-V383, V483, V583, V683, etc. in their system. Gerry sells only the V383 & V483 - and at a significant markup (Gerry is $799, Amazon US is $507 after exchange & GST).

Upshot is at this stage, the expectation is cheaper, and greater range. Thursday will give more certainty.

        • +1

That's Thursday, launch for all is Friday.

As someone who works at the FC in Dandenong, I'd say don't believe everything you read/see in the media.

    • -2

No, just e books and apps.

      • +1

U can already buy that stuff now. Amazon site that is opening on Friday will sell tangiable goods. Mb read the article… but my question is what will be available if anyone knows.

        • +3

          It was a joke

        • +19

          @dosada:

          I haven't stopped laughing.

        • +7

@Scab: It's technically true if you didn't start.

    • +11

They have not listed the iPhone yet, or anything from Apple.
You can check by Googling an item/brand after "site site:amazon.com.au" so "site:amazon.com.au iphone"
It will give the Google result for just that website.
Then you use the Cache view (drop down arrow on result) to see what they have listed.

So so "site:amazon.com.au Bose" allows me to see this result:
      https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Ecv6fz…

    • I am hoping eBay might have another 20% off entire site on Black Friday so I can pick up an iPhone for the missus….

      • +27

        Seems like a good trade.

      • +1

They had one already.. retailers on eBay all jacked up RRP price by 20%. Maybe try after Xmas or March sometime when Samsung bring something out again to flood the market with a new device

        • U mean S9

        • @Louis89: if thatch what they call it, then yes. or mb the SX

        • @Gavman: Or maybe SeX, : )

        • umm, maybe not! lol

        • +1

Gavman: Correct, those eBay selected sellers with 20% jack-up rise sale is not going to do themselves any favour. The only way eBay can compete with Amazon is to provide genuine 20% off sale without price jack-up.

        • +3

I talked to this Seller yesterday and he was actually justifying the price jacking by saying eBay charges them 20% selling fees or something….I am like you were selling this stupid phone for $1048 before the sale and now you selling it for $1148 during thr sale…no one is stupid!!!!

        • @kiwiinoz: The seller can price jack whatever he wants, at the end of the day if he is not making any sale, it's his loss.

        • @edfoo: yup but some idiots still buy….

        • @kiwiinoz: It depends. If you have genuine deals, you are more likely to sell. If there are always idiots buying, then those eBay sellers won't have to sell their items at low prices in the first place right?

        • @edfoo: This guy bought iPhone 8 for $990 and that too overseas version from some Australian seller on eBay thinking he has got a better deal than buying from Apple Australia….

        • @kiwiinoz: That's just one guy, one sale right? How many of that sale can seller keep doing?

      • e-who?

    • +1

      Ice Cream

      • +2

        Why you scream?

        • We all scream

        • +1

          @bdl: For ice cream

        • +1

          @decr: TAKE THAT, GERRY!

    • What wil Amazon Australia actually sell? Could I buy an iPhone for instance?

The link does state this: …from Friday, the range of products available will explode to include pretty much everything, from tuxedos to paperclips.

  • +45

Hopefully this isn't the best Amazon Australia deal this week

  • +26

So it seems Amazon's logistics network is not yet ready for the whole country. They can only deliver ice cream from Dandenong South to Southern Cross.

    • +7

no mate, it's only a click & collect.

      • +44

        lick and collect?

    • +5

Let's hope they're not relying on Metro Trains to get it there.

      • +2

Wait till they deal with the (profanity) that is the NSW Road and Transport system .

      • +2

        Or the Monash freeway carpark.

    • +1

I was hoping Amazon would use Drones to deliver Ice Creams to everyone ;)

    • +4

If they had 3 guys on wheely shoes they'd be better off than Aus Post.

      • Nope, they'll crash into the concrete bollards outside southern cross, especially with one hand on the ice creams.

  • +3

looking forward to see who is the first one to post amazon au deal. easternculture? ninja? tightarse?…… Jv?

    • +32

      who cares..

    • +1

I think the boys need to make this special and let Jv go first!

      • +8

        Where are the bargains?

    • Does Amazon have referral codes?

  • Finally

    • you could have just got your fix at Haagen-Dazs or Royal Copenhagen…

  • I'm surprised ebay isnt pumping out mad deals right about now.

    • +4

30% site wide tomorrow evening would convince me to pick up a couple of items!

      • +1

        30% probably after price jack-up.
