should specify that it's the 3gb version in title

    • Not much visual difference between the 3gb and the 6gb 1060s. Source: have installed both.

      • About 60 Sol/S difference mining Zcash. (Source: I have a few of each)
And the 3GB version won't be able to mine ETH after April next year.

        • +2

ah, for gaming no dif tho. After electricty costs what do you make?

        • +4

          @stormii:
          No diff…
Um the 6GB version has 11% more CUDA cores and double the VRAM (won't run into severe stutter when running selected modern AAA's on max settings). Still not worth the price difference imo but there certainly is a difference when gaming.

        • @Viper8: it is around 7% difference IRL. Where are these sever e stutters that you talk about? I have not seen this in any benchmarks.

        • @misu p:
Yea. I've found that changes to core's (quantity and clocks) account for ~2/3 of performance whilst changes to memory bandwidth accounts for ~1/3 of performance for Nvidia cards. so 11% more cores = 7% more performance in games.

Benchmarks are not IRL games and do not tend to use much VRAM. Looks up multi-game reviews and look at the massive differential between the 6GB and 3GB on VRAM intensive games like Hitman and Tombraider (even on High settings the difference is massive). Step up the max settings and every other modern AAA requires >3GB VRAM = stuttering. Even Overwatch on Epic uses 2.5GB on my 1060… The instant you exceed max-VRAM you start using system RAM which is significantly slower hence stuttering.

imo 3gb is way better value than the 6gb atm. if you turn down the textures it's no big deal. i'd say the $80-100 premium is not worth 7% fps and the ability to run higher textures. saving that money is more future proof than buying more vram

saving that money is more future proof than buying more vram

          Very true

        • @Viper8: I test my rigs by gaming, usually fighting a bunch of bullymongs in BL2 (where the stutter effect can get very real with a poor setup), I havent run into a problematic difference yet. Note: I make sure I have speed matched RAM to the mobo.

  • dayum, looks like Santa just came early.

      THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID !

  • I guess the better pricing around is due to the soon to be released custom cooled versions?

    • +1

I think there is an expected die shrink early next year on ryzen/Vega/Polaris?

      • +1

The die shrink is expected to be announced in February but most think it's too early for actual products so they're thinking it'll be a paper launch. Expect products in March and April. Ryzen is definitely getting the die shrink but not sure about the GPUs.

        • That should help with the power consumption. Wouldn't this make the current models redundant, unless they halve the price?

        • @Major Mess: from what I've read, the current models (of Vega) can be set to like 95% performance and significantly reduce power usage.

    Logitech MX Master 2S $99.20

Lol Francesca tried to get me to post that in October for $95.20 after discount.

    • +9

Why don't they post their own deals? Seems sorta shady that they try and get community members to post for them.

      • +2

Looks nicer if a member posts it, especially if they (wrongfully) claim they 'negotiated' it…

        • +1

          Throwing shade…i like it! Upvoted!

  • Does anyone have a recommendation/deal for an ambidextrous or lefty mouse?

  • Anyone got deals on a Logitech Anywhere 2S?

Vega 56 for $559 is very interesting if you're happy to tinker with it (flash 64 bios, undervolt, overclock etc) as it can start to trade with a stock GTX 1080 once tweaked (though obviously the GTX 1080 is overclockable too).

I would however suggest sticking with the GTX 1070/1070ti/1080 line otherwise if you just want to plug in and forget with good performance as well as better temps and noise. Vega for freesync is also a worthy consideration however.

    • Until the dual fan comes out, i think i will hold the bullet for now. I heard that the cooling was not that great and it runs quite hot.

      • Yeah XFX has a custom cooled version coming soon apparently, and not soon enough either. I'm very keen for the Freesync capabilities but don't want a jet engine in my house.

Anyone picked up on the vega 56 being 560 and the 64 is now 640

  • If anyone is going to order a new Intel i5 8th Gen CPU and build a new system, do yourself a favor and wait until its delivered! I ordered mine a month ago and since then I could of saved $60-80 on price drops of other items if I waited until now to order.

  • I've got one for work too. Great mouse, was thinking of getting another for use at home… but the Master 2S is too big for my liking
