OMG not again, I'm so broke :-(

    • +67

      Something something amazon something

      • +41

And something something about price gouging/hiking/jacking something

        • +6

Yeah - starts at 10am - gives the listed retailers time to jack up their prices by 18%

        • +21

          Already checked…

          Retailer's own site… $154
Ebay store of same Retailer…. $195

          Hmm.

        • +24

          @brannor:
          Name and shame.

        • +5

@brannor: Why would you blame ebay for the price jacking of a retailer?

        • +19
        • +1

@brannor: Some of it goes to ebay/paypal fees and shipping. But that is a higher price difference than I expected.

        • @brannor: I agree, eBay is effective giving the sellers a 20% more to keep selling on eBay. Most of the time, the buyer only gets a minor reduction to the normal non-sale prices.

When the average price for item x is $109 out of sale, and the average price for item x in the sale is $137 … you know the buyer isn't the one making a saving here.

        • @brannor: To be fair to Futu, they haven't jacked the price for this sale. The last price change was on 6 November and actually went down ($209>$195). Can't find historical pricing for their website but I imagine the $154 price has probably come down recently too, seems to be the best price online for that item that I can see.

        • +1

@brannor: you are comparing it to a different vendor…I checked the price for ShoppingExpress Ebay…they are in the similar price($1 difference)

        • @Rumbaar:

How are they given them 20% more? The non site or category wide sales are funded by the sellers involved and not only that but eBay charge them their regular fees but on the pre discount price!

        • +3

@batsxs: Ok… but why do my Futu_Online orders arrive in a ShoppingExpress box?

        • @Maverick-au: eBay makes up most of the 20% discount, if not all. You think the sellers foot that bill?! Or at least increasing the base average price by 20% will allow a zero loss 'discount'.

        • +1

          @Rumbaar:

eBay makes up most of the 20% discount, if not all. You think the sellers foot that bill?!

The sellers do pay it and as I said they also pay FVF on the full pre discount price.

Ebay only pay for the discounts that are category wide or site wide.

        • +1

@Maverick-au: Increasing by 20% to take of 20% is a zero cost discount still, and when it's above the average eBay price is no benefit to the buyer.

        • +1

@brannor: report them to the ACCC! The seller, not ebay. Even if ebay is complicit, the sellers controll their prices and range offered.

        • @Rumbaar:

Increasing by 20% to take of 20% is a zero cost discount still, and when it's above the average eBay price is no benefit to the buyer.

Selling on ebay is already expensive. Do you expect sellers who have items that will lose them money to leave them at the price prior or to raise them so they don't lose money? What would you do if 80% of your products have 27.5% profit, 15% have 20% (so a small loss) and 5% have 8% (so potentially a massive loss that could threaten the financial stability of the seller and thus the staff?

Would you leave the 95% and just adjust 5% of prices? Or would you leave them all and potentially bankrupt yourself?

        • +1

@Maverick-au: If you can't financially offer 20% discount across your range then you don't offer it. It's simple.

        • @Maverick-au: They aren't forced to be included in this limited sales, if they cannot afford to do so. Then they don't have too. But they know the 'free' advertisement from the sales will drive customers with the perception of a bargain. eBay shouldn't allow retailers to increase their prices to compensate for the discount they are applying.

        • @Rumbaar:

Is anyone forcing you to buy? And more to the point is anyone forcing you from buying the product you want prior to the sale and paying during the sale? Nope.

I always research an item and the prices before I purchase, if people buy something just because it says 20% off without checking they are an idiot.

        • @Maverick-au: Hence my main comment to be sure to check all prices, outside of this deal. I think you're confused about my comments.

Ebay will break marriages. Will follow it up with a 20% code BREAKUP20

    • +11

Not if you buy for her

      • +15

but make sure she doesn't find her

        • +2

but make sure she doesn't find her

          Should have read
          Make sure he/she doesn't find him/her

The vote result was released a few days ago.

      • or you could buy a new one with a discount

    • +2

Marriage is overrated, most people divorce anyways

      • There are still more people who get married than those who get divorced

        Stats don't lie =P

    Dell Inspiron 11 3000 deal shortly…

        Xiaomi crap shortly

  • +3

These stores probably sick of lowering the price then jacking up the price ….So asked eBay to provide 20% off them 365 days a year.

  • +8

    When is Amazon coming BTW?

    • Any day now. items are slowly being listed.

    • +2

already, just wait for a big launch, they just aired ad on TV few days ago

    • +5
      • +3

Prices in that screenshot still 20% more than on staticice for identical items

        • +4

Sounds like they're preparing for a 20% day one sale then.

      • Is it just me or does Amazon an even worse deal if you are a seller? eBay takes a max 10% cut and everybody says they are greedy.

Uber takes 20% and every body smiles?

That link shows Amazon takes 6 to 15 % which isn't exactly better than eBay? (Most categories I'm seeing 12% but the big ones of consumer electronics is 7or8%)

        • You're comparing apples and oranges. Different industries have different profit margins. And goods and services are very different.

Which isn't to say any particular provider is charging too much or too little.

        • Apple app store, Google Play store and Steam charge 30% and everyone says "should be free to play"

    • +3

Lets hope Amazon will offer deals as good as US' black Friday deals.

      • +5

Hoping for good deal on Switch

    • +1

It´s amazing and also a bit scary to see the amount of "mystery" the arrival is already creating. Why can´t they just name a proper date and that´s it?

How comes no worker knows the correct date? Did they all sign a contract to stay quiet?

What´s the benefit of not letting any one know the date?

      • Same reason in mates on death row are not told when they'll be executed and could wait 10 years before it finally happens. The shock value of the day finally arriving after days on end of not knowing when.

        Prepare to be blown away…

        • +2

I doubt it, but thanks for the interesting comparison. So we are all at the death row now, I guess.

        • +1

          @PictureMeBroken:

          More like eBay is ;)

    • +6

Hopefully camelcamelcamel gets updated for Australia

  • +5

That's why I love Ozbargain. Every day I come in, I found 20% off on Ebay, at least twice a month.

… but my wallet hate it.

    • +3

20% is the new normal price, which sets an upper bound on what I'm prepared to pay.

      • +2

And price jacking in the new normal price too.

    • Cool but is there actually anything good and cheap. I haven’t seen or bought anything decent with these codes yet so I wouldn’t go doing a dance quite yet! a $999 iphone X would change my attitude

  • This would have been nice yesterday with the Hisense deals :(

  • +5

jeeze. this 20% stuff is on every week. Why not just leave it at 20% permanently :)

    • +10

Why not just leave normal low prices without a 20% sale

      • +6

If they do, we will soon wair for further 20% off before buying anything…

  • +10

why are the good guys listed on ozbargain but not here: https://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/ping20

  • +1

Most of stores don't have jack up price as already been jacked since last sale.

    • Yeh.. they just make stock scarce or no stock at all so u end up not being able to buy anything decent anyways.

  • +1

Furiously looking for a great local deal MacBook air 256gb.
Let me know if you come across one
    Thanks

    • +2

Will wait for you to find it.
      Let me know, thanks.

  • I came here for the price jack comments :O

    • How did you go? Curled up in a ball with disappointment?

  • +2

The Good Guys aren't listed on the T&C page you linked?

    • +1

It appeared in the original t&c's, so not sure.

      • +1

Good guys items still come up in search results when 'searching the sale'. but im not game to follow through with a purchase
EDIT: code doesn't work for GG

  • +5

The only item I want is still price inflated from the PREZZY sale. At this rate, I'll just wait for Amazon.

    • +4

I wonder what the prices from Amazon will be like!! They better be good cause I keep holding back from buying things from these eBay deals.

      • +7

I do not think Amazon's prices will be better. They may be for selected items but I think everyone's expectation around Amazon is exaggerated.

        • Cant be any worse than ebay and its price jacking.

        • +4

This! The more I think about the arrival of Amazon, the less excited I get. I think in most cases the great sales we have seen over the last 6months will clearly outweigh Amazon, at least for the beginning.

Amazon still wants to make money, so please do not expect them to give you the things for free.

        • @PictureMeBroken: No one is expecting free beer, but Amazon are known for their high-growth strategy which is to the extent that they don't generate profit, so it's quite likely they will make some waves.

        • +1

@mattythecapybara: By not paying tax for the country they reside in.

        • +1

@PictureMeBroken: Why would Amazon pay tax when our tax law allows them not to? Our federal treasurer scomo is even arguing that we should drop the tax rate for businesses that don't pay tax anyway. Adani have already set up a tax haven structure for their Qld mine, yet Qld labor doesn't care.

  • +7

    anyone has search link

    • +1

Was going to ask same thing.

      • No with 2.5% cashback and $100 voucher. Only lose out $50-60 with this deal

Would never buy full price haha

        • Can you use voucher and discount code at the same time? If you can you should wait for discount code.

        • @superforever: Oops, I meant the seller provided a $100 voucher for buying the phone

  • +69
    • +2

      Cheers!

    • +3

      you da real mvp

    • +12

      search link fixed!

      • Can this be put in the OP?

  • +2

well at least the sellers don't have to re-jack the prices after the last 20% off sale.
