    • The Ancestry DNA is $99 + $30 shipping ($129)….this is $65 + $16 shipping ($81).

      • I think the ancestry one gives it to you as a download as well so you can upload it to online tools and find out health implications of it.

        • The myheritage FAQ seems to imply you can download your raw data too.
Annoyingly, you can upload raw DNA to myheritage.com, but not ancestry.com.

      • If you are interested in being matched with relatives, Ancestry is probably a better option as it has a much larger database of testers.

Do they give your DNA to the cops? I hear that's a thing with these companies, they make most of their money selling your DNA profile.

    • I doubt they just approach / hand over your DNA to police for no reason, or just sell it for the sake of it (maybe I'm being ignorant though). But if it is requested by the police - yes they would hand it over. Another thing to add is that these guys "own" your DNA, and any company that buys them out will also "own" your DNA.

They might, if not today but at sometime. They are building huge database of DNAs and we are paying them to build. not that we are criminals and have issue with it. Just that it should be free ;-)

      • Just use a fake name/new email to register if you just want the file.

      • Your DNA data is invaluable. Giving it away to private companies is just nuts in most cases.

    • Not MyHeritage or Ancestry but this behind the scenes at 23andMe video may be helpful
