Says ticket price is $1379, but is advertised as $1499 on JB website

      • +1

Saw it today in store for $1379

        • -2

I looked through the specifications but couldn't find any information on the blast radius…

  • +2

    $500 down already. Wowsers!

    • Why you don't buy pixel or iPhone

      • +2

Neh… I'll wait for iPhone XS

        • +2

Line up for the xs+ now

        • +3

          I'm waiting for iPhone seX

        • +1

          @OnlinePred: you mean 2XS

  • +4

    Price-beat at Officeworks :) ?

  • +3

You can get parallel imports for around this price. This is a good price for Australian stock.

  • +3

wow!!!!!! it makes me hard to choose. HUAWEI MATE10 or this?

    • +2

bloody hell that's my headache! and I was convinced on the mate10 because it's cheaper, but the note 8 at this price is too tempting.

      • +5

        U11+

    • +1

Absolutely love my Mate 10.ive never been a fan of Samsung software and while the S8 (and presumably Note 8) are improved, I'm happy with my choice.

      • +4

I would find it hard to recommend mate 10 over note 8, that's one fight the Huawei has no chance at

        • -1

Subjective. I find Touchwiz and the Bixby button offensive enough that I wouldn't use a free one.

        • +1

@omgitzrick: disable Bixby button, apply a theme, done. Best of both worlds with all the benefits of Samsung. I would be questioning how huawei can get such terrible battery life using a bigger battery, I would say it's dodgy software.

        • @OnlinePred: Having an unusable button on a $1500 (granted, $999 here) phone is bigger joke than having a Bixby button. Themes/launchers change the home screen but do nothing for crappy menus. I'm on two days for my Mate 10 which is just fine.

        • @omgitzrick: They do change the menus, Samsung theme engine is like substratum, it changes pretty much everything system wide. Also bixby is actually pretty awesome if you were to actually look into it, I just tell it I'm home and it switches wifi on/bluetooth off/mobile data off/sends a text to my wife/turns the lights on/reads my shared todo list/turns off work email sync/turns my tv on. It's okay though if you simply don't want to own the best phone of the year based on past opinions.

You do get what you pay for though. This is why the Mate 10 is not comparable to Note 8. EMUI vs TouchWIZ isn't really a comparison anyway, I mean if you want stock you go stock or Oxygen, if you want a skin then you go touchwiz as it's the best at the moment. There is nothing wrong with the Mate 10 as a budget phone, but you shouldn't be comparing to flagships from Samsung/iphone etc. These guys are on fire at the moment.

As some reference material for you. These videos show that Samsung is better at RAM management, battery management, performance and you can see the screen and skin is better too while they are doing it

        • +1

@omgitzrick: hardware wise Huawei can’t beat Samsung . But Samsung OS is just too ….

        • @evatron: Exactly. I wish Samsung would abandon software altogether and just stick to making great hardware with vanilla Android.

      • +2

Install pixel 2 launcher and u will see the difference.

        • +1

pixel launcher on the note 8 ?

        • THats right. Just google it or check BGR. Much smoother than touchwiz

        • even better use nova

        • @evatron: It's actually slower than touchwiz due to animations. Smoother is perhaps what you mean. Even the MS launcher is faster than Pixel Launcher.

        • @OnlinePred: ms launcher is so ugly. O well. Happy with the pixel 2 launcher. As long as I don’t see bixby I’m good.

        • @evatron: Haha i know! I was the same about Bixby, although I'm using it more and more now. It's so different to Google Assistant. GA just tells you the weather and some news on it's home screen, but Bixby actually tells me loads of things about me and my phone, hooked into FB/LinkedIn/Instagram and also keeps tracks of videos I have been watching through video app aswell as music, and hooks straight into Uber all from the one screen. But yea I can understand some people might not use it.

    • +1

Love my new Mate 10 :)

    • I've had the dreaded black screen huawei mate 9 pro issue. I recommend this. I had a note 2 previously and miss the stylus like my Labrador misses pizza.

    • Makes me hard too.

    • Can say Im the same…. completely flaccid at the thought

Port your number to Telstra while you are there and use the $200 gift cards towards this phone

Price match with HN? An use 2 Amex?

    • +1

      So tempting

    • +1

2 AMEX? Can you please explain

      • +2

Current Amex deal givesv$100 back for $400 spend at Harvey Norman. Simply split the cost on to two cards

        • Is there a way you can tell if you saved the HN deal to your amex card? i can't remember if i did it.

        • @gatin:
They should've emailed you when you saved it

  • +5

$800 if you have 2 Amex with HN price match

    • +2

Would they price match a one day deal?

      • +1

Yeah,as long as not promotion by entering code.

    • +1

what if you have 10 AMEX cards?

      • +2

Congratulation you can take maximum benefit of buying 4 Note8

  • +6

Harvey Norman price match? I use two amex cards and I am going overseas in December so I can claim TRS.

    That's ~$700 for a Samsung Note 8. Dope…

    • +1

can you split payments online at HN?

      • +2

        no, in-store only

    • +1

Don't you mean $799? What am I missing

      • +3

        Claim the GST. $799 - ($999/1.1) = $708

        • +1

          Cheaper than S8.

    • +2

      you r a brilliant bargainer!!!!!!!!

      thanks for sharing!!!!!

    • +1

2 AMEX? Can you please explain

      • +1

the harvey norman amex cashback deal. Search it on ozbargain

    • +1

Does splitting payment with multiple cards mean we still get one invoice? If not, just wondering how do we claim TRS if there are multiple invoices for one item?

      • +1

        buy HN gift vouchers then

        • What do you mean? Buying gift voucher? Would you elaborate please?

        • +3

          @sydozbargain0000:

Buy Harvey Norman gift cards/e-vouchers with your AMEX card (it needs to have the $100 cashback with $400 spend offer saved to the card). Then use those gift cards to buy stuff from HN.

  • +4

    • +2

Yes i just got a unit from OW @ 949.

  • +7

It's getting cheaper by every new comment :)

  • +2

Harvey Norman $899. Mobile monster $920. $21 profit.

    • +1

Are they reliable? Thinking about trading another another phone

  • +1

Should I get this with TRS and 7% off JB Hifi Gift cards making it ~ $830? Or should I get One Plus 5T (new product, November launch) at $640 from overseas?

Not sure if Samsung is worth the additional ~$200 or overseas One Plus 5T is high risk due to warranty. Any opinions between the two?

    • +8

Not sure if Samsung is worth the additional

The NOte 8 is the best smartphone in the world. Are you seriously kidding me?

      • +7

Na. The s9 and note 9 is better.

        • +2

All the OGs are still rockin the Note 7

      • +2

Never used a Samsung, always used stock Android. Currently on Nexus 6 from 2014.

        • +3

I unlock my phone with my eyes. It makes me feel like magic powers.

      • +1

Not sure if your joking or not?

    • +3

I am using OP 5 atm. I think the 5T is similar in specs. Just how it looks is different. OP 5T would be nice for battery life, cheaper in price, faster Android update, more things to customise. But I am not happy with the camera software, the low resolution screen (I used to have a S7 Edge, so I think depends on your personal experience in the past to judge this element).
I would go for Note 8 if I have some spare cash.

      • +1

Thanks, this helps. I will compare the screen of my Nexus which is same resolution with S8 tomorrow and pull the trigger.

        Camera also helps!

        • What Nexus do you have? I used to have a Nexus 6P as well. Screen seems like a bit brighter on the OP5, but the details are not as good on the 6P I think it's because of the resolution.
About the camera, the 5T seems better with low light compare to OP 5. Not sure how it is versus the Note 8. But if you use your phone for work with taking notes quickly then I think the S-pen will benefit you in some ways.

        • Just FYI, I put my note 8 on FULL HD and I can't really tell the difference unless I really look for it. Although I think if you care about camera performance, then you should go Note 8 without a doubt. Also sound output through headphone jack is better on note 8, and of course you will find more features. ALthough if you don't like having lots of software features, then perhaps you should go Pixel/OP route

  • +1

    any good case recommendations?

    • +2

Any Spigen case will be good enough. Try to get those with military grade drop protection cases because currently, no tempered glass screen protector will last long as the curve screen is an issue. Unless you are willing to spend a lot of money for Whitestone tempered glass which is basically putting liquid glue on the screen which allows the tempered glass to adhere fully to the phone. But heard it is a mess if you need to remove it for any reason.

  • +4

It is a bummer no dual sim for Aussie stock.

    • +1

      Oh wtf how come

      • +2

Good question. Dont know why. It should be a global standard.

        • +1

Thanks for the heads up. Back to the mate 10 drawing board.

    • +1

thats one thing why I ordered the gray stock for $1039 and with 2 year Australian warranty but not aus stock, so repair and replace as it would like Aus Warranty …. protected
