      .

  • Wait the iPad is cheaper than an iPhone? That ain't right….

    • Course, same with the ipod is miles cheaper than the iphone, wouldn't make much money if they sold $300 phones though…

      • No, as in the iPad should cost more to make and sell yet they go for less than an iPhone. Apple ripping off consumers right there. Charging us whatever they want cause they know we will pay.

        • +2

why should the iPad cost more to make? just coz it's bigger?

        • I agree an ipad is 4 ipod touches stuck together, should cost more.

        • iPhone 4 is of higher specification than the iPad (double RAM), and presumably entailed greater feats of engineering given its scale, higher need for reliability, and broader functionality. Although, the size of the iPad screen must push the cost.

This forum links to benchmarks for the iPad and iPhone, and speculates that the iPhone may exceed the iPad with an equal loading of applications.

According to this blog the iPhone 4 affords video editing which the iPad doesn't.

CNET claim the iPad to be better, though, and its as-is benchmarks exceed the iPhone 4 by 20%.

          Aside: Android boots.

        • uraha, its not should, its already shown. parts cost is significantly lower for iphone 4 than ipad. in fact, the 32gb ip4 is cheaper than a 16gb wifi ipad.

          http://www.isuppli.com/teardowns-manufacturing-and-pricing/n…

i'm not saying the development fees etc are cheaper. thats a different question i cant answer.

          iphone ipad
          $188 vs $258

for 16gb 3g. ipad sells for slightly less.

edit: isuppli's newer estimate increased the ipad cost by $21, to $279 for the 16gb 3g.

  • You may be able to pricematch this at JB and others.

An alternative is to get it from the US apple store at US$499 plus whatever the mailforwarder charges you (it is definitely under $99). You can also have it engraved with your name or "I bought this just to do coke on it" engraved on the back.

    • Lol. that is all.

    • +1

gives me an idea for an Ipad app-.

WHITE LINES- an app for the coke user. gives you patterns on the screen so you can scrape your lines of coke so that they are nice and straight.

you can enter in how many people are doing the coke so it can give the best positions for the lines.

The other thing is if you know a Woolworths employee, they are having a 10% off at Big W staff discount day this weekend (there was a post about it, but I can't find it now). This would bring the price down to $540ish.

    • any idea if this is correct? online or in store only?

      • There was a post here a few days back with someone talking about it, but I cant find it anymore (maybe it is because they broke the first rule of staff discount day - don't talk about staff discount day).

I noted this weekend as staff discount day at Big W, and tehoriginal seems to have confirmed that below. I would hazard a guess and say in store only, so the card holder can be verified, but I do know the last DSE staff day allowed for some stuff to be purchased online, I don't want to say for sure.

I don't think Big W sells the iPad online… but yes, the 10% discount is also being applied to online sales. I've uploaded the flyer here:

  • these are quite a delight to use once jailbroken. But its really triumph of design over practical. Certainly too heavy to read for very long, but some of the running displays are exquisite to view. I'm using Telstra's (God forbid!!) T-Touch too and actually can do things with it and its has two cameras, proper bluetooth, SD card socket etc. that iPad lacks.

    • Damn cowardly negative voters. Remember everyone, you get 5 negative votes per day, so you may as well use them all to confuse or condemn.

  • Theres a special event on the weekend ahem .. that certain people who posess a certain discount card can access which would bring 10% off this price again.
    So $598/1.1 = $543.6

    • +1

      598-10%=538.20

    • +3

      the equation is actually 598 x 0.9

      It's basic math.

      • -1

Well if you really want to be pedantic, then it should actually be 598 - (598/10) because it's "10% off" not "pay 90%". Asshattery: it works both ways :-)

  • Tomorrow is the 18th, right?

How much stock would each BIG W stock? Would there be any left by the weekend?

  • Haven't they been at this price at Big W ever since they came out a few weeks ago? Chances are this is just the standard pricing for places like Big W and Officeworks (if they get it). (Big W has 20 dollar off RRP for 64g Ipod Touch, similar for the 32g and 8g as the standard price).

  • Ooo man i feel like money

  • +1

Aren't all the iPad models cheaper than normal? Not just the 16gb?

  • This offer is back in BigW catalog starting tomorrow

  • But it's their everyday price
